Kenwood Multi Purpose Rechargeable KN500 Questions & Answers
MPNs: 242434 and KN500My Kenwood KN500 electric knifes stopped working. It won't turn on and is fully charged. It is almost 2 years old but hasn't been used much. Any ideas?? Cheers Barry
Hi Barry I exercised the button off and on repeatedly and finally it worked and has been fine since. Almost as if the switch points were sticking, see how you go, otherwise a great knife
The on switch will not stay “on” unless you hold it in this position? Is that the way it is supposed to be? Very difficult to hold the switch “on” while pushing the safety switch at the same time.
Yes , its part of the safety mechanism, but we find it is still much easier than a manual Knife.
Hello, Thank you for contacting Kenwood.
It is correct due to safety - The unit will not stay on unless the button is pressed at all times.
Thank you

Thank you for getting back to me. I found the knife ergonomically very difficult to use, and from comments online, I see that others feel the same. I have returned the knife for a refund.
It is a hopeless knife. Hardware stores have much better ones. Try Bunnings. They have an excellent one that CAN stay on.
how long does the Kenwood Knife take to recharge?
How long does it take to recharge the Kenwood electric knife
Sorry Liz, I can’t remember and haven’t had to charge it for a while. I will try and get back when I charge it next.
about 30 mins from empty to full
Hi All,
Thank you for your question!
When you first get this appliance, It is recommended to charge it for 12 hours.
After the initial charge, You are correct - Roughly 30 minutes before use is a good timeframe!
Thank you

Can I buy the charger separately as I have lost mine, if not what is the plug size as I may be able to buy a compatible charger
I have lost the charging cord, can I buy a replacement.
You could, except I threw it out, actually the whole knife which was useless. Bunnings sell an infinitely better knife. The Kenwood was impotent and very hard to use having to keep a button pressed while cutting. The Bunnings model allows you to lock the button while you carve
Forgot to say, when I complained to Kenwood, they admitted that it was inferior, gave me a refund and did not want the knife back.
Clearly the micro switches are the problem ,arcing on operation and disconnection is the problem. the fix is a spark quencher . Micro switches can be removed and contacts cleaned but a spark quencher will solve most problems. The micro switches provided with the knife are unable to withstand the back emf when the motor starts. Poor design and a simple fix which Kenwood should provide a solution. It is a magic unit and much better than corded units , the problem is it requires and excessive amount of time to keep it operational..
I sent the device back and got a refund. It is useless, get the one from Bunnings. Works well.
Agree with all comments posted "Great / Fantastic" product when working. Unfortunately seems to be a design flaw or absolute "Lifespan Cycle" that renders the product useless within (12-18mths) hmmmm.........what do you know, that's just outside of the Warranty Period!! Shame on you Kenwood - Once such a trusted brand!!
I just got my knife and then it started shaking while cutting with blades both uneven. Now I can’t get the blades out!!
How do I know when knife is fully charged?...does the green light change colour?...doesn.t seem to be charging properly as it only works for a few minutes after charging...
It doesn't change, always green. I just charge it overnight. If it still only lasting a few minutes, might be a faulty battery.
does the knife come with a battery charger, and the comments about the battery lasting only 1 year then wont take a charge concern me
Yes. The knife does have a charger. The battery is built in. The earlier models had battery issues but that was 10 years ago. I still use ours every day and stand by my review. Cheers.
Does anyone know if they ship to New Zealand
