Is the emergency brake working only when it is a cruse control on?

I'm having problems with accelerating on my MG ZST core when at lights or going uphill. What is the issue.

Rob J
Rob J

The ZST Core/Vibe with the 1.5L CVT are grossly under powered with a max. net power of 84KW so do not have a very good power to weight ratio. Also if the A/C is on this will drain considerable power resources. General rule, take your time, accelerate slowly, Use high volume A/C sparingly, return fan to level 2/3 as soon as possible EDIT It may also help if you use Ron 95/98, I use Ron95 and that seems to help when A/C is active

With cvt transmissions you just cannot floor it off the mark. Rather take off smoothly.

Does everyone zest core have the letters zst on the rear because mine only has zs and yet the internal and external match’s the look of the zst and not the zs

Hi Andrew and apologies for the delay, I've been unavailable. Righto, the answer is on the back of your car, it will have a ZS or ZST badge on it. They are basically identical cars but the ZST has additional safety systems, MG call it Pilot. Think 360 degree cameras, speed sign recognition and adaptive cruise control for starters, but more. Adaptive cruise adjusts your cars speed to the one in front if you catch up to it automatically. I've also noticed that my ZST the cruise also slows the car going down hills to the speed set. Very handy if a camera or diligent officer is at the bottom of the hill! There is a lot more and you can find out on the MG website. But there is also a difference in price for the extra goodies of the T, $23,990 vs $26,990. When I saw the 360 degree camera in my driveway I was convinced. But your car must still have the ADR mandated systems; anitlock brakes etc. But I do hope that you are enjoying your car as we are. One caveat for me being that we live in a hilly area and the demonstrator had 91 RON fuel that made it struggle on our mandatory steep hill, my wife was not impressed. But I realised that it really needs 95, which it now has, and the hill is now much less of a problem. And it now doesn't hesitate off idle. It's a zippy little thing actually. Happy wife happy life! :-) Overall, we just love it

Has anybody had CVT problems with their Core Idone 159 klms in my brand new2023 model road side assist, tow truck, Mg service centre 7 weeks down the track still waiting for car to be repaired

Megamouse
Megamouse

No Robert. We got our ZST Core on 22 May, have done >1,000 ks and no problems at all. No funny noises, nothing. You might have to get Fair Trading involved if you are in NSW. If MG can't fix it in 7 weeks, they have a problem, not just you. I'm still running it in on V Power, as I do with all my new cars, and will then revert to 95RON. Initial hesitation has all but gone. Hope your CVT is fixed soon. Cheers

Would the MG ZST Core handle steep gravel country roads accessing a farm?

Megamouse
Megamouse

The demonstrator ZSV had 91 in it and was underpowered for a steep pinch that we have. I'm running the new ZST in on V Power and it is far better. When it's run in I'll try 95 but I think that 98 might be the go, especially for our hilly urban terrain. Ground clearance should be OK if the roads don't have deep ruts or gullies Shirl. And don't forget that it only has front wheel drive too.

Megamouse
Megamouse

Now on 95 Shirl and the steep hill is no problem with the car being very smooth. We have also driven the goat track from Wollombi to Singleton via Broke in NSW with no ground clearance issues at all. On the MG website, ground clearance for MG ZS is 164mm, I believe ZST is the same, so your farm should be OK. The figure for the ZST was not listed in the specifications. I dunno why either.

I haven't been here for a while and noticed Megamouse has got things sorted for everyone. I do wish MG Aust would order their dealers to fill with 95/98 fuel and take that stupid 91 RON sticker out of the fuel flap. Mine has been travelling well since it sorted itself out and it is nice to drive. Except today - the MG Pilot has gone to heaven and 8 days before dealer will look at it. MG Aust needs to sort their dealers out quick smart. By the way, several of my friends and acquaintances have MG ZS/T and they are all quite happy with them - including me.

We have had the MG ZST Core now for another 3 months. Love it’s technology but find it dangerously slow accelerating at intersections. It’s been in for service twice and they say it’s ok. Has anyone else had this problem with the ZST Core?

DrAmit V.
DrAmit V.

There are a lot of problems with MG's I have had it for over 1.5 years. Screen freezes, Cruise control freezes, Driver door unlocks by itself. So its pretty normal for the sellers and they are happy that they have sold rubbish at a price of gold.

Cam T.

Yes I agree the acceleration from stop is to slow and can be dangerous

Capt Jack
Capt Jack

This is precisely the problem I have complained about since new and the dealer does not want to fix it or likely does not know how to fix it. It is an obvious issue with some models. Poor effort on MG Australia's part when their dealers treat MG owners like dirt. To me it seems that there is a calibration problem between the accelerator computer and engine computer (fly by wire stuff). Mine is due for a 12 mth service in three weeks and if it is not fixed then I will be taking action under the Australian Consumer Law where it states that the product must perform as per the demonstration or MG have to fix or replace it. On the test drive the demo car performed fine with no hint of this problem.

I have had my zst for just a few months. I agree, they are a dangerous car because of the poor acceleration issues. I have to pull out onto the Pacific Highway regularly and because of poor acceleration have to hold up the traffic behind me as I have to make sure nothing is coming in either direction for miles before I'm game enough to pull out. Dreadful vehicle, dangerous vehicle that I don't believe should be on our roads. Surly they can't pass the Australian standards.

Definitely an issue with our car - quite dangerous - maybe they’ll take notice when someone gets killed!

Crooks6

Can you please post how you got on with this issue.

Megamouse
Megamouse

Try 95RON. Which is what was specified for all MGs originally. Customers complained about having to use expensive fuel, so MG allowed 91 and changed the fuel sticker! I presume that the engine computer just has to cope, which it does by de-tuning to cope with 91. Or whatever fuel you use. I'm running our ZST in on V Power and will use 95 minimum after the run in period. But might use 98 for our hilly urban terrain. So no hesitation or other problems as reported above. It just runs sweetly. And feels a lot freer after 1,000ks. Just try 95, or better still first 1/2 fill with 98 and then use 95. For me, it is definitely worth the extra minor cost.
