Hi there all...... I'm wanting to know if you sell items on their own like the fold out expendable dining table.

Thanks for you beautiful builds. Very inspiring.

The Anderson plug on our 2018 Getaway doesn't seem to be working. I have tried numerous times to get the 3 way fridge to work when we attach the anderson plug to the car. I have also placed a solar panel to the plug and it isn't charging to the van. I thought maybe the solar panel might be dodgy so swapped it onto another one but still didn't work. What might be the problem with the caravan anderson plug? The fridge works a treat on 240v power and gas.

Hi sue, I had an island star oasis 2016 until recently which I traded in, technically with that van ,the 3 way fridge ran on 240 v , gas or battery, not an Anderson plug, the Anderson plug only supplied charge from the tow vehicle battery alternator to the caravan battery. So your fridge should work by simply switching to battery, if not that is where any fault lays. Also when running the 3 way fridge on battery it’s mainly for just keeping things at the existing temperature whilst travelling etc not for cooling down from scratch, as I said that was for our van and hopefully it might help with your set up cheers peter

Thanks Peter, the Anderson plug on the van when plugged into the car has always been ok, so as I said before when we plug a solar panel onto the van with the Anderson plug it doesn't charge the batteries either.

Hi Sue Can you please phone our office and speak with DJ our workshop manager and he will be able to assist you in resolving your query. It maybe something with your vehicle or the van. Many thanks

We have an 1998 15ft Island Star Concorde that has I 2004 welded on the A frame, is this the identification code for the van? If so, can I get the frame, axle, springs and 14" wheels specifications as I would like to officially increase the vans ATM by 250/400 kgs if possible, but need to know the current limits to see if it is possible. Many thanks for your help. Barry

Have just read a post from swift appliances about their stove not being safe to use can you confirm if this is true and what is going to be done as we are away for months at a time and not good if there is no way to cook.

Yes the post regarding swift 500 series oven & cooktop/grill is current and correct. You should isolate the appliance via the gas value under the oven and you can continue to use the electric element for this appliance. Swift are working with the ACCC for a outcome and will update on their website when further information is available. They were originally unable to be used just in WA, but this has been extended to Australia wide. external link

Don't know and don't really care. Went to noel's to buy a brand new caravan and a woman claiming to be [Identifying information removed] was quite rude to us so we simply walked out and purchased a brand new van elsewhere. No We do not like the way they do business. If you are looking to buy I strongly recommend you go elsewhere.

Why do Island Star still use Timber frames? Isn't it prone to rotting? It's ancient technology, isn't it?

David C

Contact Noels Island Stars, they are made of timber, I have an email to prove it. They are "pleased" to confirm that their vans are constructed using Timber frames. Too bad, that's a really nice rig you bought, I bet it cost a fortune. Timber frame vans don't hold their value, which you are about to find out. You should have got a Jayco, they are cheaper and have frames that will last for a hundred years. (and truly hold their value).

"Suggest I do research"? You should have taken your own advice before you purchased something that will be a lemon in 8 years

David C

It must suck knowing you paid all that money without doing any research and ended up with a sweet looking van with a time frame. I'd be livid if I was you.

It's still a timber frame mate

Let's just wait until it develops a leak you're unaware of, and see if you still love it. It will happen, trust me, all vans leak, regardless of how diligent you are. Yes, I'm emotionally invested in this issue, but don't believe me, go to any of the Aussie caravan forums, (or the Grey Nomad forum). Nobody there would buy a meranti framed caravan. Read the other reviews, when the rubber hits the road, and a problem develops, Noels Island Star won't even want to know you.

They are not constructed very well at all, they are cheap Timber framed vans which have a track record of leaking through to the frame and rotting them. The timber they use isn't even treated. Buy a "known brand" with a modern aluminum frame. Island Star vans look awesome, but that's where it ends. They are fitted out with cheap, substandard fixtures and fittings, and the company should be ashamed of themselves.

Do island star or noel's caravans subcontract out the making of their caravans & they are not Australian made?

Noels Island Star vans are completely Australian made and can custom build to suit! Or chose one of our existing very popular models in stock (around 40 new on display and 100 second hand)
