if i have no excess for windscreen and need to make a claim (in this case the windscreen will be repalced), will this impact my no claim bonus or the cost of my premiums?
Hi Alison, thanks so much for your question! If you need to make a windscreen claim and you have no excess for it, you’re all good, we only take into account claims where an excess has been paid. So, if your cover includes excess‑free window protection, you can absolutely make a windscreen claim without it affecting your claims history or your premiums.
We now offer two main discounts: the multi-product discount and the loyalty discount. When you qualify for both, they are applied one after the other, as opposed to adding them together and applying. Additionally, you can receive a 10% online discount for eligible policies by purchasing them online. I want to reassure you that your history of making no claims is highly valued and recognized. We’ve listened to customer feedback and simplified our discount structure to make it more meaningful and easier to understand. To ensure we provide the best value when pricing a policy, we’ve adopted a more individualized approach rather than a blanket No Claims Bonus (NCB). If you wish for us to review your cover, please send us a private message via the NRMA Insurance Facebook page using this link: external link . When you message us, kindly include your details and mention that you came from Product Review so our team can support you promptly. ~ Cindy
Thanks Cindy! Appreciate your detailed response and answer :)

Hi, I recently updated my comprehensive car insurance and added windscreen cover. Since then I got a decent chip in my window that has now spread due to defogging my window in the morning. How long before I can make a claim for a windscreen replacement after only just adding it? I don’t want to look like I just added it because of the incident. The main reason I added it was because my partner recently had to get their window replaced and it cost $945 without cover.
Hi J P, thanks for reaching out! Your cover starts the day that you take out your policy (or on the start date that you select). Sometimes these things happen, and you are certainly entitled to lodge a claim. :)
You can lodge a claim in your online account under the Claims tab or you can call the claims team on 131 123 to lodge your claim over the phone. The team are available 24/7 for claims lodgements and can help answer any questions you have about your claim. Hope that helps, but please let us know if we can help further! -Nathan
If you have windscreen cover with a comprehensive policy how many windscreen claims can you make per year . EG, if you get more than one screen broken per year are you covered or are you only allowed one per year free.
Hi Guru, thanks for your question. If you choose to include the Windscreen option on a Comprehensive or have a Comprehensive Plus Motor policy, then you would pay no excess on claims for windscreen, sunroof or window glass damage, and currently we have no limit on the number of windscreen, sunroof or window glass damage claims per policy period. If a vehicle's windscreen, sunroof or window glass is damaged, we may decide to: repair or replace the windscreen, sunroof or window glass, or pay the cost of repairing or replacing the windscreen, sunroof or window glass. I hope this answers your question. Thanks. ~Sylv
Can I comprehensive insurance my car with pre existing hail damage
Hi Nicole, thanks for your question. Yes we will allow you to purchase a market value comprehensive policy with existing hail damage. Please be aware of the following information. We don’t cover the cost to fix previous damage, for example, old hail damage that has not been repaired. You may need to contribute to repair any pre-existing damage. We do not cover your vehicle for loss or damage caused by or arising from previous damage. In case of total loss, the Market Value of the vehicle can be significantly lower than a vehicle without pre-existing damage and, therefore, claims settlement may be less on these types of vehicles.
Hope this helps. ~Kaz
My car was side swiped in a car park and the driver did not leave a note. Can I claim on my comprehensive insurance ?

Really disappointed in nrma offshoring motor vehicle claims and the total lack of professionalism and understanding of current road rules and regulations in Australia from a Philippine "right handside" point of view. Without sounding racist, offshore interpretation leaves alot to be desired.

The following provides a breakdown of how your premium is calculated. Premium including 60% No Claim Bonus $1,002.74 Plus No Claim Bonus Protection $30.08 Plus Hire car option $55.00 Plus Windscreen option $55.00 Premium including options $1,142.82 Less 17.5% Loyalty Discount $199.99 Plus Government charges $146.14 Total premium $1,088.97
Hey Eddy. How long your vehicle takes to get asses will depend on the damage to your vehicle , your location and also the availability of assessors in your area. You would be best to speak with claims directly to get an accurate time frame for your claim. In regards to hire car, I can see from your premium breakdown that you do have the hire car option on your policy so claims will be able to organise you a hire car whilst yours is off the road. Regards Lizzy
We have had car insurance with NRMA Insurance for close to 40 years and only had one claim about 20 years ago when a car was stolen. We received full payment of the insurance valuation of the car within a week. We currently have friends who are checking around different companies for car insurance renewal and they have asked the following question: * Would they be covered for mice damage to a car?
As we have never had this problem, we are wondering if anyone can respond to this question. Thanks.
Hi Montrose, thanks for the question! Genreally it is covered but it is a case by case scenario depending on how the damage was caused. Reckless damage to the vehicle which then results in mice damage may be an example of when we won't cover it or general wear and tear or maintenance issue. Hope this helps. ~Natalie
Thanks for the response. Will pass this information on.
