Is there a fix for the Meridian AHR harness strap not being able to be tightened in the forward facing position. I have got a 2011 model. Plenty of complaints about it , was there a fix ? I contacted Britax customer support who were very unhelpful as the seat is out of warranty . They would not accept there was a problem with their seat but were happy to tell me that they would fit another harness tightening mechanism at my cost which would fix the problem that doesn't exist.Oh well looks like a new baby seat for this grandchild .

Hi! My 19-month-old is forward facing and the retractor button had never seemed to tighten the straps. Since purchased, I've found we need to pull the straps from behind the seat which is so difficult in order to tighten the harness and this often causes one side of the harness to be looser than the other. Often driving with straps that are not tight enough whereby recently she will pull her arms out. I believe their must be a fault I kept thinking it was me but reading these reviews I find a similar theme. Regards, Michelle

Reviewer22

I've always had a problem with the straps too, especially when they get caught on the buckle behind the seat which can stop them moving and tightening. I get around this by leaving them at a set tightness, never loosening them.

Hi,

We are using my sister in law's 2007 model Safe-n-Sound Meridian.. I would prefer to have a car seat that is rear facing up to the age 2- to 3-years old (like the new models of Safe-n-Sound (e.g. Millinea)).. I'm concerned that the Meridian must be turned around sooner and therefore not up to current safety recommendations. At what size/age does the 2007 model turn from rear-facing to forward facing? And is the 2007 model still safe (i.e. plastic and foam parts still safe, not brittle?)

Thank you

Britax Safe-n-Sound
Britax Safe-n-Sound   DM

Hi Sonia, thank you for your question. The 2007 series Meridian AHR is a weight based seat and not indicated by height markers. We would advise that the child rear face until approximately 12kg and then forward face in the seat until approximately 18kg. The new seats of the 2010 and 2013 standards are height based not weight based like yours and only seats manufactured in the 2013 standards meet the extended rear facing requirements of approximately 2-3 years as this was introduced in the 2013 standards. In relation to your final question, yes it is still safe, we recommend a 10 year lifespan on a car seat from date of manufacture, so your seat could be used until 2017 based on this. Kind regards, The Britax Team

Hi, My 21mth old is rearward facing and the retractor button had never seemed to tighten the straps. Since purchased, I've found we need to pull the straps from behind the seat to tighten the harness and this often causes one side of the harness to be looser than the other. As she will soon need to be seated forward facing, how should I tighten the harness when I won't be able to reach behind the seat to tighten and straigten the straps? Fiona

I'm sure you've probably figured it out by now as it's been a while since you asked your question. I find the straps get caught on the buckle behind the car seat. I can still reach my hand behind in between the plastic to fix this with it forward facing, but tend to get around this issue by leaving the straps at a set tightness, not loosening and adjusting each time.

I tried to write this with as much info as possible but it was too long.

Ive had the t&a for18 months. Recently turned 2 y/o FF. Since doing so, the adjusting strap is difficult to pull through, i have checked, no blockages to cause it.

Also since turning i have had issues with the buckle i never noticed before. The left clip will not click into place by itself. The right clip has to be put in after the left and clicked in for the left one to click in as well. Is this supposed to happen? Or is it a fault?

We have had an instance where the left buckle has come out while driving. Please help! Im afraid to drive with her in the car.

I bought this carseat in 2010 & after a few mths i had a lot of diffuculty with pulling the strap through to tighten. I called Britax & i shipped off my car seat & they replaced the whole seatbelt, have never had any probs since

David Riach
David Riach

Interesting story to this. I had the same problem with my child seat clip not locking correctly and the clip coming undone whilst driving. Exact same symptom but my concern was the faint click noise was from new so I did not realize it was supposed to sound different- until my daughter came out of her seat whilst I was driving. Britax did replace the buckle but after some messing around- sent me to supplier, asked to clean the clip out, then mailed one out to me. Even though it is obvious they know there is a common fault with these clips. I did not think too much about it at the time and thought it was a once off type of event. Until it happened to a friend of mine with the same seat! I did an internet search on the fault and found it has been happening a lot over quite some time. No Recall, No warning when buying the seat- nothing. I lodged a complaint with the ACCC about 2 months ago so hopefully they will do something about it. I would have thought the seat belt function would be a pretty important thing to get right on a child seat but I am obviously wrong.

I'm being given a second hand one of these that has a date of manufacturing of 15/08/2010. As this model is discontinued. I'd liketo know a: why is it discontinued and B: dispute knowing it's accident free. Should it be replaced due to age of item?

Britax Safe-n-Sound
Britax Safe-n-Sound   DM

Hi candiedheart, thanks for your question. Our recommendation on the lifespan is anything 10 years or older should not be used. We recommend replacement at 10 years, due to deterioration of the plastics used in construction of modern restraints. A seat may have become brittle over time, and simply will not provide the same level of protection against impact. We have replaced the Meridian AHR Tilt & Adjust with the new Meridian SICT. In regards to disputing if a seat has been in an accident, we would recommend if you're not aware of the history not to use it. Please feel free to give us a call on 1300 303 330 if you would like to discuss this with us in further detail. Kind regards, The Britax Team.

Our son is 3 & we brought the meridian ahr tilt & adjust when he was a newborn, my question is that when he hops in now the headrest falls down very easy & I always have to adjust it back up, is this normal? I cannot recall the shop I brought it from :/ so cannot send it back!! Thank you :)

Dave
Dave

Hi Rozy, we did not have this problem with any of our seats. As I recall the headrest adjusts up and down carrying the seat belts/harness with it in order to align the belts with the child's shoulder and head respectively. Perhaps check behind the seat to ensure that the vehicle lap sash belt that anchors the seat in place is not interfering with the child seat harness. Otherwise I am not sure that there is any other means to tighten the headrest to prevent it from slipping. David

Britax Safe-n-Sound
Britax Safe-n-Sound   DM

Hi Rozy, thanks for your question. Safe-n-Sound products are covered against faulty materials & workmanship when used under normal conditions for the warranty period. We provide a 5 year warranty period on Harness, Seat Moulding & fittings on most models. The speakers in the head rest are covered by a 6 month warranty. In addition we provide a 2 year warranty period on fabric covers, comfort pads and padding. Please give us a call on 1300 303 330 so we can point you in the right direction to have the seat looked at by one of our authorised repair agents, thanks, the Britax Team.

Hi, I am using a 2007 Safe n Sound Meridain AHR car seat. We have just had our first baby at 4kgs. The shoulder straps are way too loose and the baby could/can easlily move her arms freely out of the straps. The spring tightener is fully retracted and I've looked at how the straps are anchored to see if I can tighten them further but with no luck, they are at their end stops.. The shoulder straps are in the lowest position. It looks like a flaw in the design, has any one else have this problem, or are these seats simply not designed for infants?? Any help would be much appreciated as we can't afford to go buy a new one which may have the same problem.

Recline function in forward facing mode?! I bought this seat brand new and my 15 month old's head flops forward or rolls around if he falls asleep in this seat. I've tried everything to get it to recline, including following the instructions, but he's still so upright!

It grates on me that I have to rush home every time he falls asleep in it when I paid so much thinking this seat was the best. Please give me some advice before I have to buy a new seat and write a scathing review on this one!!

Tee
Tee

First of all a 15 month should still be in rearfacing position at this time till at least 2 years, he most likely will do it in any carseat if hes doing it now untill hes a bit older and can control it more. even as an adult if I fall asleep in the car that is what my head would do aswell so its not uncommon. For the recline function there is a handle under the front which you pull and also have to tilt the seat at the same time to get it in place but it doesn't recline a whole lot only a bit , which is why at that age they should be rear facing. Altenatively I have seen a pillow from phil and teds that is like a half circle shape you put under the chin area and that will help support the head a bit more while sleeping. If you are having too much trouble working out your seat still I would suggest seeing the store you purchased it from for help.

Britax Safe-n-Sound
Britax Safe-n-Sound   DM

Hi Boobaa, we are sorry to hear of the frustration you are feeling with your purchase, if you have the Meridian AHR Tilt & Adjust which is certified to the 2004 standard then your little one can stay reward facing up until 12kg's. If you have the version certified to the current 2010 standard which has the shoulder height markers than your child can stay reward facing up until the first shoulder height marker which is based on the average height of a 12 month year old child. As Tee has suggested sometimes when you fall asleep in a more upright position it is natural for our heads to fall forward, if you would like to discuss the recline positions of your restraint please call our team on 1300 303 330. Kind regards the Britax team

Hi, we bought this seat planning to fit it in the centre of our backseat only to learn there is no anchor point there. I have installed it in rear facing mode on the passenger side but as I am fairly tall the front seat pushes against the top of the car seat slightly in order for my knees not to push into the dash. I saw on the CREP website this seat rates equally safe both rear and forward facing. Would it be worth turning my 6 month old forward facing so the seat doesn't touch the front seat, or is it still safer to have it rear facing and pushing on the passenger seat when there is a passenger?

Dee44
Dee44

I would actually get an anchor installed in the middle, 6 months is the minimum and with height markers saying " must remain rear facing below line" means baby must remain rear facing till shoulders reach line, I have weighted one and my daughter is only 11kg at 22 months

Dee44
Dee44

She still rf too

Tilly91
Tilly91

Your seat should not be touching the baby seat at all. You should have a two finger gap between your seat and the baby seat. This is a safety issue. I would recommend you get an anchor point installed. Its not recommend that a six month old be forward facing.

Britax Safe-n-Sound
Britax Safe-n-Sound   DM

Hi Melissa, Safe-n-Sound supports children rear facing for as long as possible, and at this stage this is to 12kgs or until the child reaches the shoulder height marker of the restraint for our Unity Infant Carrier and Convertible Car Seats. We would also suggest looking at having the centre anchor point installed in your vehicle. Please feel free to give our team a call on 1300 303 330 so we can discuss this in greater detail. Thanks, Britax Team.

Hi,

When the seat is rearward facing it works as a capsule. You wont need to buy a capsule. I had my twin boys in these from day one.

Hi LorenJade, the Meridian AHR Tilt & Adjust is suitable for children from birth to 4yrs of age (approx.). It has a unique infant safety cushion which provides increased protection for babies. This insert includes a composite material support pad on each side to adsorb energy on the babies torso during a side impact crash. Here is a video link - external link  Please feel free to call our team on 1300 303 330 if you would like to discuss this with us in greater detail. Kind regards, Britax Team
