Slumberland Somerset Questions & Answers
VerifiedSo many mixed reviews for the Somerset mattress! Have just ordered one, but concerned about the 'heat' and chemical smell that is being talked about on here. Advice please.
I bought a QS Somerset 12 months ago, best purchase ever! No smell from base & sometimes, on a balmy night get hot & kick off mattress, only to get cold again( not faulty)
Feeling warm in the Somerset - any ideas to cool it down ...
If anyone has used the Somerset mattress for a period of time can you let me know your thoughts? Either on a base or on slats?
Our Somerset mattress is on a base. It's about four years old and getting worse. the base is fine.
My husband and I are considering purchasing the Slumberland Somerset from our local Snooze. We were wondering if anyone who owns one of these mattresses could give us their thoughts on the mattress? Your opinion would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
I have owned one for just over a year and love it. I used to work in bedding so know a little bit about the mattress world. This is a pocket spring system bed so is great to minimalize partner disturbance & will support the body well unless you weigh over 110kgs which I would recommend a Sealy as the individual pocket coil system will fail for heavier people. Overall I have been more then satisfied with my purchase! Hope this helps!
Thank you, richmond b for your response. Your information is a help to us while we're still deciding.
Hi just wondering if you ever went ahead with the Somerset mattress? Im considering this too and interested to see how it went?
We ended up purchasing a Madison Times Square. What a mistake! It collapsed after about three months. My husband was sleeping on it alone as I found it very uncomfortable and was not sleeping well at all. My husband weighs about 85 kg and is just over six feet tall. It seems to me the pocket spring system is more suitable to people who weigh much less. One sided mattresses are not only daylight robbery as you are paying top dollar for half a mattress, but they cause pressure soreness because they have no cushioning at the bottom to stop them from pressing against the base and pushing back against your body, so it's impossible to relax into the mattress which, in my experience, is necessary for a proper restful sleep. Another problem is the quality of the foam used in the manufacturing process. The foam does not seem to have the correct amount of density to give it adequate strength. It's either too hard or far too soft and collapses after a short time regardless.
I tried the Somerset mattress instore & liked it so we did buy it. Couldn't wait to get to bed that night, however, it felt like a rock & we both had bad joint pains. Rang the next day to see if we could possibly exchange our new one for the one on the store floor but no go & told they take awhile to break in. I bought a mattress topper and we used that for about 3-4 months and then tried again and we are very happy with it now and find it very comfortable. It's just a shame that the new beds now seem to take a few months to "break in" , by that time you could be crippled but I think the mattress topper helped. We haven't used the topper now for about a year & the bed is fine.
