How much do the 310 farmboy go for in price

Richard D.
Richard D.

The 310 farm boss were about $900 new I think , although they sold them from about 2000-2009 or 10, so probably that varied a bit. Good ones seem to bring around $500, rough and faded they bring a lot less. They were pretty happy with a 16" bar, not so much with 20". Like always, condition and compression level tends to dictate the value of any twenty something year old saw...

yes Richard is correct, if you have standard bar, you can measure track with feeler gauge or old chain with a mic. or vernier caliper

How much was a sthil 310 brand new?

Richard D.
Richard D.

Depends on when they were bought. The 310/390 were a model run from 2000-2009. Price in Oz from $700-1000 but I could be wrong, as there were a lot of deals over those years...

what is the price 310 farmboss?

I wouldn't expect much change out of $1000. Be wary if you are looking at cheaper second hand options. 2 stroke tools are the sort of things that will last an age if looked after or cost a fortune if mistreated.

Probably around $1200 AUD for the current comparable MS311. The thing you have to ask yourself is, do I need a saw this big? A smaller Stihl can also cut very well without the penalty of price and weight. I use a Stihl MS170, $249 currently, for all the small stuff and it cuts quick as well because it has a narrower chain than the MS310. I do love the sheer power of the MS310 as well as the bar length when required however it's expensive and heavy and hard on the back for prolonged periods of time. My recommendation is to buy a saw no larger than is realistically required with Stihl staff very well trained to advise you if you tell them the expected use of the machine.

What chain length is the ms310?

Foggers

Its varies mate.

Really depends on the length of bar you have.

Shorter bar = shorter chain.

Comes stock with a 20 inch bar though.

Are you looking at getting an aftermarket chain or buying OEM stihl chain and don't know what to look for?

Best blade for along the grain?

Foggers
Foggers

Not sure about this one. Bandsaws are generally better for along grain cutting as opposed to chainsaws. If you are looking at doing artwork and carving with it, look at some of the mini-boss range!

Like to buy another Stihl but the prices in Australia are a rip off !!! Why are they half the price in the U.S ????

Foggers

Wait for the quarterly sales and pending on what is going on you will get it cheaper, but by all means source from the US or elsewhere. There is a tune and filter system on the Australian ones to suit climate and timber (after going to a chainsaw sharpening workshop) that is specific and if purchased from northern parts in the states or from Europe may need to be adjusted to suit Aussie conditions. At the end of the day after freight, filter changes and carb tunes expense are you really going to save much. Probably not. You want another Stihl because the old one broke or is worn out?

Richard D.

Half the price in the USA because you get paid (much) less than what you do here for the same jobs... People in the USA work full time and often more than one job and yet need to get govt food stamps and subsidies to eat...

Looking at a ms 310 second hand saw, how much should I pay for it?

Foggers

Umm I would suggest steer clear of second hand 2 stroke tools to begin with. You don't know the history of it, and it could have been subjected to a lot of abuse. If you are that keen on a second hand one to save a few pennies, get the current owner to take it in to a Stihl service centre and get a documented record of the state of the nation on the saw and get them to show you the unedited version. If you are getting offered a saw for around $300 it might be worth looking into but then again it could be stolen, it could be ex trade and may have had a hard life or near the end of its serviceable life. Find the history of the tool and if you are satisfied it has been serviced, maintained and looked after it may be worth putting an offer in.....but if the seller isn't interested...steer clear.
