Sunbeam Cafe Series Espresso PU6910 (EM6910 Machine + EM0440 Grinder) Questions & Answers
VerifiedMPNs: 35904101 and PU6910Hi, my machine now makes an odd noise when pouring coffee.
The pump seems to start, but very quietly, sounding muffled. After some seconds the pump goes back to a normal sounding noise, and the machine works fine.
Today however, the odd noise occurs, no water comes out, the muffled noise continues on.
The steam side works fine, always has.
Any thoughts?
Hi David, Generally if your pump starts off quietly, it would indicate that you have the pre infusion mode set. This is when the pumps gradually increase the water pressure to pre soak the coffee cake before full water pressure is applied for the extraction - please view P24 of the IB.
When the water doesn't come out, what is the pressure gauge telling you? If it is in the red, you're grind is likely too fine so you will need to make it coarser.
It is also imperative to descale/clean at least once a year as you may get a build up of scale in the pipes which may cause a blockage and in turn put pressure on the pumps.
I've had my sunbeam cafe series for a year and has been working really well but in the last month or so it had been underextracting the coffee even though I haven't change the grind or amount packed in the group handle. I've descalled and cleaned the group handle regularly and also checked the pressure gauge according to sunbeam instructions and it's fine. I don't know what else to try. Any help?
I am not a technician, you have descaled, and cleaned, have you run lots of the descaler through both double skin baskets. to get a good extraction your water needs to be hot and the grind reasonably fine.
if still not right try another cofee and compare. it could be an old batch of beans, if that does not fix then have the machine serviced.
there are 4 or five service centres in Melbourne.
Sorry I cannot be of more help.
With regard to the coffee grind setting, the same happened to me, I spoke with the service centre on the Gold Coast, the person there said to try different grind settings first as the pressure can sometimes change due to a few reasons, I did that tried a few different settings and it started producing perfect coffee again, went from 4 on the grind to around 15, It takes a few goes but I have been told the same happens with professional machines.. Whenever there is a change in the extraction I experiment with the grind, if extraction is to tight (struggles top come out) loosen the grind setting as the grind it too fine, if it flows to quickly head the other way with the grind (set finer) They need adjusting from time to time. Also the gasket should be replaced every 6 months, that's what they recommend, however we usually get at least a year out of them before replacement, it's part of regular maintenance... they're very easy to change and can be bought on line. Just google and there are a few youtube videos that show how it's done. I know others that just turned their machine off when it wasn't producing the best coffee, after 10 minutes of me making a few adjustments perfect coffee was flowing.. It's not always the machine, just a matter of understanding how they work.. Mine machine is now 4 1/2 years old and it's sensational.

I have had my machine for nearly 10 years and it's still going strong. Great product! Only thing I fixed recently was replacing the water level sensor which failed. Not bad for 10 years.
Only question is the temperature the machine makes coffee at is about 80C. It's consistent but lower than you normally want at about 93C. Has anyone else measured this with their machine? Is it the way they are programmed, or is mine just a bit off calibration with age.
Cheers!
You can adjust water temperature and steam pressure/wetness settings in the EM6910. Check the user manual.
Regular descale and clean may also help with water temperature .
I have had my machine 2 months maybe a bit more and the steam wand and hot water work fine but it is not pushing enough water to make a coffee, no water coming through the basket one either one cup or 2. Any ideas
Hi Trina
Have you purged the machine? Some times it may need to be cleaned. If you have any build up items that case blocking that may be your issue.
cheers

Hi I am having the same problem mine is only giving me a couple of drops in each cup and machine seems to be getting hot it pours water through fine but won't push the coffee through had no problem with it before I've also cleaned it and its still the same ??
Hi there,
I purchased the EM6910 1 week ago. It is not our first coffee machine and we have never had issues texturing milk to produce a perfect micro foam. This machine just will not produce foam of any kind. It heard the milk to boiling in a very short time and noise coming from the machine is piercing and almost to painful to be in the same room as let alone standing over. My husband and I have watched the DVD, followed the instructions, uped the fat content of our milk even though the DVD states skin milk should still achieve a good foam and have gone through countless litres of milk practising but have not even been able to achieve a loose foam before the machine burns and boils. I have looked at the steam coming out of the wand and it doesn't seem to have consistent pressure. Could you please advise as the alternative is returning the machine and waiting 2-3 weeks for it to be looked at and a decision to be made....? frustrating and inconvienient to say the least
Hi there I have the same machine which is also not our first, but a different brand. Did exactly what you have done by the looks of it with the same outcome, my wife also has tried. They just don't produce a thick micro foam, you should come close though after a while unless there is a serious steam problem. I have best results with full cream milk that has good shelf life remaining as once it gets close to shelf life the foams not as good which makes sense. These machines are loud enough to warrant ear muffs when you start texturing milk. In the 11.5 months of owning ours we have had two repairs for steam supply issues, one being a solenoid on steam wand and two being the steam pump.
You have to 'chase' the surface with the steam wand. From what you say you're putting it too far in and just scalding the milk. I've had this machine for some years and had no problems - don't use soy or low fat but lactose free is fine...
how much electrical power required ?
Hi Hoo,
The wattage on the PU6910 is 2400w.
