Which coffee machine is recommended?

Sallyanne
Sallyanne

I cannot give you a definitive answer the that but I have had a number of Sunbeam machines which have performed well. My conclusion though, is abide by the KISS principal. Unless you want to spend a lot of money a basic machine and pre ground coffee is the simple way to go . I currently have a very basic machine plus a seperate milk frother and that works for me . It really depends on how many coffees you want to make per day etc... .

Is this coffee machine worth buying? According to 'Choice' it has an 82% overall satisfaction. There appears to be leaking issues. Is that a one off problem.?

I’ve had my Mini Barista EM4300 for a few years now and it’s never missed a beat. I love it, it’s perfect and clearly has longevity, which is refreshing these days. Lately sometimes (but not always, but doing it with increasing frequency) when I fill the water reservoir (I don’t overfill it), about half the water leaks out over a short period of time (say 30-60m). Does something need cleaning? Seals degrading?

Hi Claire, I couldn't find any information online or in the booklet on how to fix my machine but after I posted my review, a lovely woman from Sunbeam contacted me and she helped me fix the issue. Maybe they will contact you and help you out. I did update my review.

I have cleaned everything and the water tank is full but once i have steamed the milk and filtered the coffee the ready light flashes and then nothing works and i cannot put more water in my cup and have to boil the kettle for more water.

Hello, I've had my machine for just over 2 years and the on and off button no longer works so I can't use the machine. Is there anyway to fix this?

Hello, this has just started happening ,every time I draw a shot single or double, the machine keeps going ,I manually have to stop it or my cup would be full How can I fix this

Ren

No easy fix. It’s a fault that Sunbeam is well aware of and yet continue to sell the unit. I have had 2 do this and Sunbeam refuse to address the issue. I spent some time trying to get them to do the right thing but they simply said no! They were both only just out of warranty. As I said in my review, no more Sunbeam products for me.

Thankyou Ren that's just so disappointing, I purchased this because of choices reviews. Obviously over rated

This is a common issue - the usual fault is the failure of the Triac BT137 600e, on the circuit board. You can try replacing it - the triac is inexpensive and readily available. Here external link  To get the Triac off the circuit board, you have to dismantle the machine. There's an excellent tear-down instruction here external link  this guy had a different issue, but the tear-down instructions are great. You'll need a Y #2 screwdriver to get two of the screws out (rest are Phillips). Here for the Y screwdrivers external link  Then you can de-solder the Triac and solder in a new one. Hopefully that'll work. Another common fault is issues caused by cockroaches. Good luck! regards, Dave

Thanks @rabbit and others on this board - I've just replaced the BT137-600E triac on my EM-4300 and it's back to working like new

Paul C.
Paul C.

I can also confirm that replacing the Triac resolved the issue. It's not an easy task for consumers to be fixing - I was fortunate to have a soldering iron, and electronic engineering background to be able to complete this task successfully.

Hi I've had my sunbeam mini machine for 18 months and now it's,making a loud vibrating noise, not steaming ,just water running out, and water coming from the bottum, into the tray ,and does not stop till I turn off the power point ,it makes the vibrating noise as as I turn the power point on and not the machine ,I think it's broken but 18 moths isn't long for that to happen

Ren

Hi there Yes it’s infuriating. I’ve had two do the same thing. The most recent was only 2 years old. The first was over 5 years ago, so not a recent development! Sunbeam is aware of the design flaw and choose to do nothing. It was 2 years old and they refused to replace it. Many others report the same issue. I reported it to consumer affairs and needless to say won’t buy anymore Sunbeam products.

Hi! It sounds like the triac on the circuit board is faulty (although it can be other things). The pump is continually running. The part is cheap - it's a Triac BT137 600e. You have to dismantle the machine to get at the circuit board - here's a good tear-down video external link  Plus you'll need a #2 Y screwdriver, as well as a Phillips head screwdriver. Then de-solder the triac and solder in the new one. From what I've been able to find out, it's a common issue. Hope this helps. regards Dave

I have the same problem as Joycys, it just happened after 5 years, Sunbeam Mini Barista EM4300. As I searched for the issue and saw this post, thanks guys! I won't bother replacing the triac, will try another brand instead, such as De'Longhi.

Hi sunbeam. I’ve had my sunbeam mini barista for 2 years now and the last week when I turn it on the ready light and the steam light are flashing together very fast and nothing will work. How do I fix this?

Jos W
Jos W · Mini Barista EM4300S (Silver)

Hi, When I turn the machine on, after a couple of seconds, it goes straight to the steam button flashing which seems to disengage all other heating-up processes. I have de-scaled the machine a couple of times but it still persists until for some reason it switches to normal process. What needs replacing please? Thanks, Jos

I have the same problem, I'm going to try descaling and see if that helps. We don't have hard water or anything like that, I am hoping that will help.

I have the same issue also. I made the mistake of putting a light Bleach Solution in the Water Tank and running it through a few times. I assume I've killed a rubber seal (or similar...) Should have used 50:50 Water:White Vinegar

Did you find a fix for this?

Nathan T.
Nathan T.

Hello Karen. I have this machine, it has a different problem, and for this reason I have been looking for information. Some of what I found may help you... Apparently there is one component on the control circuit board that routinely fails. This affects the "timing" of the pump. I think this is your problem. People do report successful repairs by: 1) disassembly to access the board 2) removal of the failed component 3) soldering in a replacement (available from eg. Jaycar for a few dollars) 4) reassembly

HeyJoe

What component????

I have the same problem, the SELECTOR SWITCH develops a hairline fracture allowing hot water to travel into steam wand and drip down past head

I need to replace the electrical plug. The three wires are blue, brown and yellow/green. Can anyone confirm which is earth, live and neutral?

Sherilee
Sherilee · Mini Barista EM4300

My machine is only 2 to 3 months old. Today it won't stop flashing light to say its heated, I turn it on to try to get steam out the wand and hot water comes after a very small amount of steaming. I turn it back to the centre to reheat, and the light for steam stays on. After a wiggle of the dial it goes back to the centre light but still flashes consistently and won't get to the point of staying on fully. Therefore I can't get it to purge coffee.

Hi, I've had a few of these machines and have replaced them due to the following problem. Now, my current machine is also doing it. I'm not inclined to buy another. Problem: Water continually pumps as soon as it's switched on at kitchen wall socket. Whether the actual machine is on or off, it engages and starts pumping water. Will also randomly do this in the middle of the night when not the machine is switched off but the all socket is switched on.

Mike R.
Mike R.

The problem is a blown triac as you will find in other searches. The component BT137 costs $5.10 from Jaycar NZ. The trick is getting to it behind the back cover. I didn’t know where it was located so I almost dismantled the whole machine. I think it’s a case of removing the top first then levering the back out of its clips into the sides to expose the circuit board.

Thanks!

Thanks Mike R I bought a BT137 at Jaycar in Australia $4.25 and proceeded to replace it. 2 screws at top, obvious, then 2 screws from under the top coming up from steam wand area, stupid 3 prong screwdriver needed, pulled front out, breaking bottom screw mounts. Obviously you should pull the bottom off to allow access to screws on bottom of front cover. Anyhow, it didn't matter, bottom screws not needed. Undid 2 screws on printed circuit board. Triac is at bottom, pulled it out, might need to unsolder, then solder new one in. Worked like a charm. Coffee again, thank you.

Hello Christopher, it seems you know what you’re talking about would you happen to know what would cause the automatic? Two cup pore to not work correctly? I have reset the timer no change. It pores for a few seconds then the pump goes on off on off on off. The single cup and everything else work fine. Hope you can help me cheers in advance
