Suzuki Grand Vitara JB / JT.I (2005-2011) Questions & Answers
Verifiedim in UK my second hand 88,000 mile 2009 GV 2.4L bought Feb 2021 has developed cracked head and cracked block,Suzuki UK dont want to know,i realise USA have 20 year block warranty on this but surely it is Suzuki Japan who should be standing up and honouring what is essentially their poor casting process, quality control inspections at build. Q is, what have other 2.4l owners managed to achieve v`s Suzuki customer service?. Thanks
Unsure if anyone has been able to get manufacturers to cover it outside of warranty period but here in Australia, most people are getting a replacement 2.4L motor from a car built I think 2013 or newer. They fixed the issue with the cracked heads and blocks from then onward.
Hello,I like the gv no gimmicks inside drives great. I`ve been i touch suzuki gb they say a 7 year extended warranty from car initial sale date, september 2009,so out of warranty, the cracked block however has to be checked out at local suzuki dealer asap as i write. If no joy i intend to have the engine repaired by a suzuki dealer then sue in small claims court, the released tech service bulletin thaty actually shows 2008 2009 head and block cracks exact same as my gv my engine number falls in the thick of the issues ,its a chance im taking but when failures are admitted then hopefully they`ll stump up .A new head is 1,100 gbp inc vat---cylinder block is 2,300 gbp inc vat..The motorcycle division are different their engines are bulletproof. Cheers
gday mate...do you have a link to engine number list...im struggling to find a list..thanks
What is the size (length) of the interior rear view mirror of Suzuki Grand Vitara 2014 (J24B ) ?
I am trying to find out the length of the interior rear view mirror of Suzuki Grand Vitara J24B 2014 ?
Hi I have an 08-09 grand Vitara with the j24b about 30,000 kms ago I pulled the engine and replaced the block but I think I’ve got a bad valve, can I pull the head on that engine in the car or does the engine have to come out to remove the head ? Cheers
I have a 1.9l diesel 08 and it sounds like a train when I drive it. It's like the exhaust gasses arnt going through the exhaust but coming out inside the engine bay and it's leaking oil under the car.
good news, that’s a wonderful car with best quality
Probably got neglected while under warranty as Suzuki service under warranty only extends to oil and filter changes. If they do pull something apart check the bolts as half the time they either forgot to torque the bolts properly or did not put them all back. Get a service manual on CD/DVD and learn to do your own service and maintenance. Japanese made Suzukis are good cars and will go for 500k+ on original engine and gearbox as long as they are maintained by the book, unfortunately you won't get that from dealers as they would rather sell you a new car then look after the one they already sold you.
I have just purchased a 2013 grand vitara 4x4 Automatic 114,000 klicks, there is a slight whine noise coming from the gear box as I accelerate , more noticeable at low revs, is this normal?
Hard to tell from that description I recommend popping over to auszookers.com and asking
Thanks, will do
I have a Grand Vitara 2015 model and have noticed the boot doesn't unlock when the drivers door is unlocked. If I want to put something in there I have to make sure doors are closed, lock the car and then unlock it again with a double click. Am I missing something? It has to be easier. Also can you open the boot with the key?
i have the 2013 grand vitara prestige so not sure if it is different but if you want all doors to open you click the button on the handle twice, (or the remote twice) same with the rear door if you click it once it will only open the rear door, if you click it twice it will open all doors :)....no you cant use a key in read door (unless it might be different to your model)
How to remove frozen sump plug on Grand Vitara. Hex flats now rounded due to ring spanner slippage in trying to undo. Any logical alternative to drilling it out?

Can a manual J24B be fitted to a automatic vehicle?
Kiwis have a spanner that locks tighter as you pressure it like a pipe wrench, a brilliant spanner
Wheres the radiator drain plug?
My 2014 Grand Vitara 2.4l petrol 4WD is developing a slight delay in acceleration after depressing the throttle pedal. It appears to be an electric throttle action not a cable adjustment. Has anyone had this same issue and how was it fixed?
Did Garry receive an answer to his question Jun 03, 2018?
No answer received, so I took the Suzuki to dealer.
I have a Suzuki Grand Vitara prestige 2009 model . The condensation outlet is leaking into the car and not outside any suggestions on repairing it my passenger front side is soaking wet if I use air conditioner. Thanks
OMFG see a mechanic.
Your condensation overflow pipe is blocked. Its a simple fix. Its a small rubber piper overflow into the egine bay from the firewall of the engine. If you goggle it, there is a you tube video how to unblock it, using the wire of a coat hanger from underneith the vehicle. I did it very easy and simple fix. As its blocked the water flow back into the front passenger footwell down from under the glove box. Cheers cam
Thank you Cam will try that .

Hi there can any one help with my GV 2.4 petrol it is overheating on longer runs no water in oil and no water in oil, car runs smooth and does not use coolant or oil 170k on clock

I have a 2010 Diesel Grand Vitara. I am currently having issues. When I change gears and accelerate there appears to be an engine over rev for a few seconds. The cruise control also cuts out when this occurs. Has anybody experienced this problem or know the reason for it occurring.
Hi
The cruise control system of this car is designed to cut out when the driver does a number of things including changing the gears or touching the brake.
I have not experienced the engine over Rev .
Hope this helps
I do know the response of the cruise control to braking and changing gears. My question was angled at including that as a response to the problem, not the problem. The over revving is the problem.
my 2010 grand vitara 2.4l is always overheating, i changed the thermostat and it worked for 30 minutes before overheating again.
I finally realised that the cap radiator Wassy working properly so i changed it too, it worked for 1 hour than overheat again.
i have cold air coming out from the heater, so im sure air is trapped but i can't find a way to bleed it all. is theres a bleeder in this model??? if yes where it is ????
My 2009 2.4l petrol grand vitara started overheating in about july 2016. I took it in to be fixed by the suzuki authorised mechanic. He had the radiator flushed out . It has worked perfectly ever since.
Can I add an extra 1 or 2 seats to a 2008 modal?
Ask a signtory engineer.
We have a hairline crack in the engine block. Suzuki Grand Vitara JT 2009 model. How common is this problem? What could cause this problem?
Impossible to say without a qualified inspection but overheating is my instant reaction.
I have just bought a 2012 grand vitara 2.4l and im going through what seems a heap of fuel with really bad economy.
When I fill the car the range display shows 410km, however im lucky to get 380km a tank. I'm using premium fuel and most of my driving is highway.
On many occasions i have travelled 8km to local shops but the fuel range drops by 40km with a noticeable drop on the gauge also.
I once towed a trailer (350kg) to the next suburb which is around 15km and the car used 100km of fuel and showed 1/4 tank of fuel used..
What is wrong with my car??
Sounds like you are indeed using an inordinate amount of fuel going by the gauge. Have you done a mileage check along the lines of fill up - drive a couple of hundred kms and then see how many litres it takes to refill to the same level?
Despite what Suzuki might say, I would expect you to use around 10 litres per 100kms.
I find the fuel range gauge a bit erratic too but have always put it down to varying driving conditions.
The only solution I can think of is to check for a fuel leak, I have just recently dealt with one in a Holden. Do it with the engine running so that there is pressure in the system.
Failing that, off to dealer (good luck).
Cheers, Mike.
I have bought new Grand Vitara Sport 2.4 manual 3.5 years ago and now have cca. 100 000 km on the clock. In my experience fuel gauge needle starts to go down quickly and after 480-530 km (depends on driving conditions) reserve light comes on. If I refuel right away, it'll take about 50 l of petrol, which means that there is still about 16 l in the tank, which can easy give me additional 150 km of driving. I think it is done that way because it is a proper light 4WD and if you use it off road, that'll give you ample warning to refuel.
I have the same issue. I think it's that the car weighs 2 tonnes, has a small engine and, in my case, is an automatic. Towing it's a pig on fuel.
I have the same issue with my 2013 Grand Vitara Prestige. Took it into a Suzuki dealer as it is still under warranty, and apparently it is a known issue with the GVs and that they couldn't do anything to fix it?! It had been running with the low fuel light on for 3 days (about 50-60kms or so of driving) when I filled it up it only needed 53 l of petrol, so should have had about another 13 l in the tank. After then driving to work (35kms) the fuel gauge had already dropped to 3/4.
I have a 5 speed manual 2015 Sport Grand Vitara and have found suburban driving gives fuel consumption readings between 9 & 10 l/100km but on checking use at the bowser this reading is 5-6% optimistic. The gauge from full is fairly linear going down about 125 km per quarter tank with the light coming on at about 500 km or 50 litres used. There is still in reality about a quarter of a tank left at this stage in reserve as this car is designed to be taken into the middle of nowhere so gives plenty of range to get back to a pump in case you were not watching the gauge on your outback travels. The auto does seem to be heavier on fuel use and towing can push up fuel consumption considerably.
My husband is looking at buying a Suzuki vitara 4x4 2009 model. Can anyone tell me some information about the car please?
