V.I.P. Petfoods Dog Food Chunkers Questions & Answers
VerifiedCan I feed my Maremma on chunked meat balls as a full meal and are they fattening
Be careful with ViIP foods, I fed two of my dogs with a chunky gourmet VIP food and both became ill lucky one threw up but the other ingested the food and ended up at the emergency vet nearly loosing his life with a case of severe gastro costing me $5300 for a $6 meal!!! VIP denied any responsibility. Offered me support by way of giving me more of that food that nearly killed my dogs!
After this ordeal I’ve found lots of recipes on line that are easy to make and you know what you’re feeding your animals and they love you for it.
Hi Sue, Our VIP Chunkers are complete and balanced, so can be fed as the sole diet or in addition to other foods! How do I serve chunkers meatballs beef peas and carrots? Straight out of the packet?
I’d check the preservative they put in their food before you gave it to your dog. I had a dog that nearly died recently eating vip chuncky gourmet mince.
Oh God... ok, I'm shelving it, not going to take the risk. Thank you
Is this a single protein product? My dog has a chicken allergy.
Hi Kim, Our VIP Lamb Chunkers are not formulated to be a single animal protein diet, so would not be best for a dog that has allergies to chicken. If you are looking for chicken free foods, please reach out to us at external link as our Petcare team can assist you to find the right food for your dog. Warm regards, The VIP Petfoods Team
Can I freeze as I've been given 3 bags
Hi, Are you able to freeze VIP Chunkers?, and if so, for how long? Tia Mark
Hi Mark, Our VIP Chunkers are best kept refrigerated below 4°C Our Chunkers can be stored frozen and we recommend dividing the product into meal sized portions and bagging individually in the freezer for thawing as needed in the fridge. Once thawed we do not recommend re-freezing. We'd recommend using the pack contents prior to the labelled best before date. We hope this helps! Felicity The VIP Petfoods Team

Is Chunkers dog food suitable for my 3.mth old Puppy?
Hi Angela, thank you for getting in touch regarding our VIP Chunkers. Our VIP Chunkers products have been formulated with recipes that have been specifically created for adult dogs, so may not be suitable to feed to a growing pup as they will require additional nutrients which you are more likely to find in a product that has been formulated for the puppy life stage.
We'd recommend feeding our Nature's Gift Puppy Meatballs with Chicken with & Garden Vegetables 650g product which is exclusive to Coles. For more information on this product, please visit our website at; external link
We hope this helps! Best wishes, Irene
Why does this product contain sugar?
Hi Martin, thanks for getting in touch. We have sent you a DM with more information.
Hope you have a lovely weekend ahead! Many thanks, The VIP team
Every time my dog eats chunkers the next morning for some strange reason she can't seem to hold her bladder and wets in her bed. This is the only time she ever does that. Is it high in salt, causing her to drink more?
It is possible she is sensitive to it. It might not be a good choice for your dog/she might have an allergy. Also, if you change the diet of the dog abrupty this can cause gastrointestinal upset. I have two small dogs (Jack Russell + Foxie) and I feed them 2 tablespoons of chunkers mixed with 1 tablespoon of biscuits every morning, and at night a couple tablespoons of biscuits. I freeze the chunkers and then leave in the coolest part of the fridge. I also find that they tolerate the chicken really well; the lamb makes them do stinky farts.
Thanks for your input, I really appreciate it. We have 4 mini schnauzers at the moment, 2 of which are my daughters, they all really enjoy the chunkers and they only get the chunkers once a week at a treat. But after what has been happening with the bed wetting the morning after I think I might try a different brand like the 4 legs natural and see if that makes a difference. Thanks again.
Good morning Deb, Thank you for reaching out to us with this feedback. We are so pleased to hear that your Mini Schnauzers are loving our Chunkers! Perhaps this would be a question for your consulting veterinarian as they will be in the best position to advise further on your girl. Our VIP Chunkers will contain a low amount of salt of 1.5% and will be manufactured in line with the AAFCO nutritional guidelines. We hope this helps and if you would like to speak with our Pet Care Team directly, please feel free to reach us on 1800 732 573 (option 1). Many thanks, Team VIP
are vip chunkers supposed to be dog treats???
I think so, that's what I do, too expensive as feed unless you have a tiny dog.
Hi Mal, Great question! Our VIP Chunkers range is a complete and balanced food for adult dogs so will meet all your dogs nutritional needs. This means they can either be fed as your dogs sole diet or alternatively they can also be used as a meal topper to dry food, or even as treats during training! We hope this information helps if you need any further support, you can give our Petcare Team a call on 1800 732 573 (option 1). The VIP Petfoods Team
My Beagle loves both varieties and I need to feed him sparingly. The period of three days after opening is rather short, so I freeze them and reheat in the microwave. One question is about the Calcium content, which I can't find on the pack. Please advise.
Hi Geoff, thanks for your support of our brand! We're glad to hear our Chunkers are enjoyed by your boy. Our VIP Chunkers are a complete and balanced food that has been formulated to meet the AAFCO (Association of American Feed Control Officials) nutritional profile for adult dogs. The level of calcium present will meet the minimum AAFCO requirements. Our Chunkers are best reheated gently in warm water within a sealed freezer bag or airtight container as microwaving can destroy some of the vitamins and minerals present in the food. We hope this information helps! If you need any more help you can reach out to us directly on 1800 732 573 (option 1) or via our website V.I.P. Why does this dog food contain garlic, when garlic is toxic for dogs?
Hi Caroline, Garlic has been used for many years for medicinal purposes to help boost the liver and cardiovascular system. As it has immune boosting properties, it can also aid in inhibiting bacteria and fungi growth. We can assure you that we include only a very small, controlled amount of garlic our products, at levels far below the doses that studies have shown to be dangerous to dogs. We hope this information helps! If you have any further questions or concerns, we can be reached on 1800 732 573 (option 1) Monday-Friday 8.30am-5pm AEST.
Hey why does chicken chunkers have garlic in it? It’s labelled on the bag as the last ingredient.
It’s known to be bad for dogs long term. I opened a bag and it had a strong garlic smell. I through it out.

Hi Why does this food contain Sugar? I will not buy it because of that. There is other brands of this type of food that to no need to put sugar in it. Dogs do not need sugar in their food, this is suposed to be food not a treat. Having to put sugar in the food means lack of palitable flavour or poor quality meat.
I’ve just got a puppy. 5 weeks old . He’s already on solid foods . Have started him on Chunkers. I’m just wondering if he’s too young.
Hi Gary, Our VIP Chunkers are formulated for adult dogs, however are not harmful if offered to puppies occasionally. We would recommend feeding Puppy formulated foods to ensure your pups nutritional needs are met during their growth stage. You are welcome to learn more on our puppy range on our website external link We hope this helps!
Can u freeze this product strIght after you buy from the shops
Hi Pauline, Yes our Chunkers can be stored frozen and we recommend to divide them up into individually bagged meal sized portions, thaw each portion as needed in the fridge and after thawing do not re-freeze. We hope this helps
Do I need to cook the chicken chunkers before feeding them to my 4m old puppy? Also, can I freeze them as she eats small portions. Thanks
Hi Anna, Our Chunkers are a cooked product, so there is no need to cook them before feeding them to your dog. They can be frozen into individually bagged/sealed meal sized portions and thawed in the fridge as needed. Once thawed we do not recommend to refreeze, and to use the contents before the use by date on the pack.
Our Chunkers are also formulated for adult dogs, so we would recommend basing the majority of your puppies diet on a puppy or growth food, and include our Chunkers occasionally. We hope this helps!
So even if the product has been frozen prior to the expiration date, you cant thaw them & use past the date???
