SMEG by name but not by nature! – Very disappointed with this cooktop! I'd love to give a glowing review but I can't. I bought it for the Smeg name and chose this as it was low set… Read more
and wanted it sunken into our new timber kitchen bench so it wasn't always in view. I have definitely regretted my purchase as I can only use 2 burners at a time due to its diamond shape. The designer was clearly a male who doesn't cook with a frypan or wok! I also found that the printing on the knobs almost rubbed off (like another review I've read) after less than 2 years of use and had to get a replacement (which is only marginally better) even though I'd not used any harsh abrasives. Dealing with Smeg was not an easy process either. I was surprised as I bought SMEG because of the supposedly good name for their quality but I'm sad to say that I am disappointed with my experience and would be very reluctant to recommend SMEG to any of my friends. So be warned! My only positive was that The Good Guys at Robina were awesome during my negotiations with SMEG and very understanding.

from the box! very bad on operation - it has 9 power modes, and it's not a smooth power delivery but constant ON/OFF modulataion, which menas the food heats up on 100% for 1 second and then idles for 8 seconds whn switched to the low temperature setting. there are cheaper and better options !

sometimes doesn’t work and then other times it works straight away. You have to hold down the gas lever for ages (30 seconds or more) and let the igniter still keep clicking away for it to continue working otherwise it does not ignite. Then the gas will just go out mid-way of cooking, it is so frustrating. This happens across all the burners. It has now come to a point where it won’t ignite at all. My advice is to stay away from SMEG cooktops! I had left a review on SMEG’s website but has since been deleted so now I wanted to share my experience.

appliance. Have contacted Smeg to get manufacturer do something about the finished look of material used for the trivets. Not yet resolved. First issue was when 1 element would not work, replaced. Have got a Black Glass one now which camouflages the discoloured trivets. The technical team have been great to resolve issues. Another bit of feedback would be to put smaller elements to the rear so larger pans/pots fit without being close to the wall, needs reconfigurations. To many parts to clean...got better things to do. Due to cut out size in benchtop, cannot be replaced with different brand cooktop. Want the stainless steel look, what was originally purchased. Still waiting. Has been too long. Delays due to covid supply issues should surely be better now. Hope this issue gets the right attention this time. Please!!

the same brand and width as my oven and could find no other option for a 70cm width. I thought I’d get used to the controls, but nearly two years on I still struggle with it. If you rest your fingertip a moment too long on the control (which happens all the time as it is tricky to use and unresponsive if it gets a tiny bit damp) suddenly it jumps to the hottest setting for a fixed time period …so annoying! Another issue is that the markings indicating where the elements are are not accurate at all. The actual heating areas are far smaller, which is a pain when cooking with a largish frying pan - only the middle heats up.

sparingly used. Due to COVID restricitons i have not had large parties or entertained. I am a single woman and therefore dont cook large meals either. Within the first few weeks - the steel at the rear started turning a pale yellow due to the heat from the rear burners; the body scratches very easily due to the cast iron support. the burner rims have got a burnt look... the knob has broken quite easily... I am some one who takes great pride in the appearance of the home and maintain appliances well... and there have been no cleaners in the house in a few months either due to COVID restricitons...
I therefore consider that this product is of substantially poor quality and am very disappointed with my purchase.

a serious cook, it doesn’t hold a boil but pulses on & off. I thought it was faulty but the SMEG tech who came out to look said that is normal for this one. I showed a video of my pot of jam cooking which was a disaster. Also no bridge, the touch controls are not very sensitive making it hard and tedious to use, and under setting 7 it simply doesn’t cook. Don’t buy it.

burner control knobs. The knobs are metal but sit in a plastic surround that slides onto the gas controller underneath the top. Although durable we discovered that if you accidentally drop a copper bottomed saucepan onto the knob the plastic will snap and will then wobble or worse case not grip the gas controller. Fortunately the knobs are interchangeable and a replacement knob is available from SMEG (approx $40 including postage) In future we will buy a hob that has the control knobs on the side of the burners and not in the front.

nothing but difficult. A fracture appeared in the product only a few months after installation. Now over three months and still no joy. We were offered twice by SMEG that they would pay half of the repair bill. I don't think so, faulty product you replace it. Job numbers have been lost or not delivered and now a month after having it checked by their repair agent who agreed it was a fracture in the glass, we are still no better off and they are talking about replacing the glass top not the whole product. We have been unable to use it in case of a glass explosion from the heat. Dodge SMEG there are better products that cost alot less and are better at honouring their warranty I am sure. Next step consumers affairs.
The product was bought for us by a builder through Harvey Norman.

which were discoloured from normal every day cooking. I was told that these should not be put in the dishwasher and they should be polished with a soft cloth and mild soap and water...this did not work of course. Considering the reputation of smeg I was expecting a much higher quality of item. The trivets and the stove cooktop are not made of quality stainless steal and I would not recommend this cooktop....Our previous cooktop was still looking good after 20 years and it looks like we will be replacing this existing item again with something that withstand everyday use.
