Oppo AX5s

Oppo AX5s (2019)

3.4 Summary

Disappointment – I had two previous Oppos. They worked well. I upgraded to Oppo AX5S in 2023. Disappointment is hardly the word. It's filled with advertisements.… Read more

Everywhere you go there's a pop-up ad appearing. I find it extremely intrusive. But the worst problem is that there is no keyboard for messages. I have tried to solved the problem but failed. And there is nowhere to go to.

my home; it suddenly charged and never picked up charging again. I got it assessed; it's at fault with your nominated repair, and the outcome was that the motherboard is faulty, and it will take 1 month to get parts from Sydney for repair. Then I shipped it to your Sydney main repair office that will be expired soon or will be reached, as I have borrowed an old one from some friend for these days without a phone. But though I am chasing through emails and phones. I am not getting any proper response; yesterday a lady named Trista said it is still due for assessment by a technician. I am so frustrated and upset. No clue, no time frame of repair. When it was already assessed by their nominated repairer and they found fault, why are they again taking so much time to assess it? And it is just the assessment taking so much time; no clue when the repair will be complete, and more days to get back from Sydney to Brisbane.

I purchased the OPPO A78 5G from Officeworks primarily for its dual SIM option, features, and price range. However, from the start, I experienced the… Read more

following issues: 1. People would often receive an automated message saying, "Your call could not be connected; please check the number and try again." This happened with both of my SIM cards. 2. I would not receive SMS messages, particularly when trying to get confirmation codes for two-factor authentication. The only way to receive them was to restart the phone. 3. The phone wouldn't dial out, staying stuck on the dialer screen with no sound. Restarting the phone was the only way to make calls. After many troubleshooting attempts, including: a. Contacting my network provider and resetting network and Bluetooth settings b. Replacing the SIM cards c. Additional troubleshooting with OPPO tech support

I accidentally discovered that turning off Wi-Fi caused both SIMs to work properly. I reported this to OPPO support, and they advised me to return the phone for warranty repair. This would have meant going through the hassle of sourcing two replacement phones, cloning data from the OPPO A78 5G, and restoring apps and passwords. After waiting four weeks with no response from Officeworks, I called the store and was informed that the phone was irreparable, but they provided a full refund.

This was my second disappointing experience with the OPPO brand, the first being the OPPO A74 5G (you can read my previous review about random restarts with the A74 5G). I would recommend staying away from this brand, even if they offer their phones for free.

the screen broke. Didnt have a screen protector for last year or so and had been careful up until then and regret it now. despite the oppo ax7 screen now looling like spiders have crapped webs all over it, it all still functions and if i added a pic of the screen you would say WT hel, that still works?? lol. Bought a A53s a month ago, new, sealed in box. After a week it started to come away at the top of the screen as if they forgot to put glue round the damn thing. Figured ok ill buy some glue, put a small piece of clear tape at the top to hold the digitizer/screen down at the top till the chinese glue shows up to fix the chinese dysfunctional fire hazzard phone! Then a week later noticed the garbage is getting hot. i didnt try fry an egg on the screen at this point but it may well of made a great youtube video trying to cook one and wreckon it may of came close. At this point im thinking the battery is fried or about to explode. Being the rebel i am i continued to use it for another week. Takes about 5 hours to fully recharge, battery lasts a full day therebouts. Today i needed to make a call (no not to abuse oppo or ring my mum and abuse her..) went to shop to put credit on phone that ran out 3 days ago when was able to make and recieve calls fine last. Then tried to call and it just "hung" on "calling" screen, made no sound such as the sound it makes when you call people, tried calling family members etc in same room, nothing! Put sim in old busted butt ax7 and it makes calls hahahhaha. Format oppo a53s 4 times now, TOTAL ERASE. I can connect to home wifi on it, just cant make calls. checked call barring. not set as on! been thru all settings i know to use and the verdict is its a ABSOLUTE WASTE OF SPACE! Afraid to throw it in the bin as it will most certainly catch a garbage truck on fire!

(drowned the first one after only three months when I jumped into our pool before taking the phone out of my pocket. Derrr), I can say that the incredibly annoying fault with my phone also occurred with the previous one so it seems to be a software fault.

I am quite pedantic when messaging, using correct punctuation. In both phones, hitting the comma will either result in a full stop 8 times out of 10, or it will insert an unwanted preposition (eg in, of). As I have prepared this message, it has hit the full stop each time I've wanted a comma.

It's a small but very annoying fault when you have prepared a lengthy message or post, only to find unwanted full stops and new, nonsensical sentences. In most other respects the phone meets my needs pretty well but it is s only a few months old. I suspect it's eventual replacement won't be an Oppo.

other end of the call when using the hands free speaker is a known factory problem/design issue. This was acknowledged by Oppo Australia technical support. Whilst Oppo Australia Customer Support have been very good in the past, this particular issue has not been resolved to my satisfaction. This phone was only purchased this year in April, and when sent sent to Oppo for repair they sent me a second-hand refurbished phone, which had the exact same issue with the speaker phone, and this refurbished phone also now has no vibration feature? The phone has again been sent back to Oppo Australia Customer Support and I have requested they consider sending me another model, new phone, with similar spec. It now remains to be seen whether they again send me a refurbed phone! I find it hard to believe that considering these issues are not as a result of misuse of the phone by the customer, but factory related, and the phone is but 6 months old, they do not make a more concerted effort to assist in resolving this issue in the interest of maintaining a high level of customer satisfaction? Once again Oppo Australia Customer Support was tops, but I now question whether this is still the case?

Oppo A74 5G 128GB/6GB RAM mobile random restarts stay away from this brand – I purchased OPPO A74 5G mobile phone in Jul 2022, mainly due to duel SIMs option and price range. After ~1.5 years starts doing random restarts.… Read more

Initially, the restarts occurred infrequently, and I attributed them to potential problems with the installed applications. However, in the next 3 months, the situation has worsened, and eventually the device began restarting every time I attempted to use any applications or access settings. I contacted OPPO tech support and they told me that phone is out of the warranty and they would do nothing. I tried myself resetting network settings, resetting all settings, erasing all data & finally a Factory Reset, but the problem persists. I lodge complaint with Consumer and Business Services and they recommended contact place of purchase, which was Officeworks. The Officeworks turns out to be a very supportive and authorised full refund straight away. Now bought Samsung mobile from the Officeworks. The biggest frustration is due to nature of the OPPO A74 5G mobile phone fault. It was impossible to recover any data and etc.

Not to mention the biggest issue which is TOUCH DELAY .. it is just OMG, letters near the phone's edges are having a massive delay compared to letters in the middle. Extremely unsatisfied customer here.

Can't even return it because I've purchased it 40 days ago ...

brand at that stage but did some research. I have to say, for the price, this phone offered me way more bells and whistles than the Samsung ..., AND $100 cheaper! I'm no tech head but the build is excellent as is the camera, screen size, overall reliability and ease of use. Admittedly, there are plenty of things on the phone which I will probably never use but they're there if I need them. To date, I am very happy with the phone and look forward to giving some more feedback at a later date after having it for a while.

Nice simple phone with 2 important features that a lot of high end modern phones left behind – I needed a simple phone without too many bells and whistles. I don't wring all the bells or blow all the extra whistles so I dont buy into the hype… Read more

of a lot of the flagship phones. Moreover, I am finding that the more expensive flagship phones from the likes of Apple, Samsung, and Google have actually removed some really useful features. As the saying goes, they really don't make them like they used to. And this is a large part of the reason why I bought the Oppo Reno 8 Lite 5g - in particular, there are two main features that seem to have disappeared from higher end phones that are big ticket items for me.

What are the two features? 1.) 3.5 mm headphone jack. This is one of the few modern phones with a headphone jack. I'm an audiophile, sometimes music producer. Needless to say, I like music. Strike that. I love music. I love music in in all its glory and I have invested in high-end audiophile grade headphones so I can listen to that music in all its glory. It baffles me as to why manufacturers of high end phones have done away with 3.5 mm headphone jacks (actually, it doesnt baffle me that much, I know Apple want you to buy their airpods, and similarly, Samsung/Google wants you to buy their headphones). Yes, you can use an adapter, but then you lose the ability to simultaneously charge your phone while listening to music through a pair of quality headphones, as the adaptors need to use the same port that charges the phone. And yes, you can still use bluetooth headphones if you want to (I do this for gym sessions and sound is still pretty decent).

2.) Expandable memory There is a reason why a lot of the high-end modern phones do not have expandable memory. The Samsungs, the Apples, and Googles ultimately want you to buy their cloud storage solutions when you run out of space on your phone. Naturally, they're going to want to limit how much stuff you can store on their phones so you actually do end up spending money on their cloud storage solutions - either that or you spend on one of their new phones once you run out of space - either way, its a win for them from a revenue perspective. To me, this is also evidence of a form of planned obsolescence for their phones, so you are forced to by a new phone once you have consumed all the space. I have a lot of music, and some of this is not even released to a label. I dont want to have to pay a subscription fee to store and access this content on the cloud. I'd much prefer to store it locally on hardware from I which I have complete control over the content stored. The Oppo Reno 8 Lite 5G accomodates up to 1 TB of additional storage - this is on top of the 128 GB you get on the phone. Yes, you have to pay a one off cost for a mini SD card, but for me, this is better than paying an ongoing subscription for cloud storage and access to that storage of your own files (I still wonder - what if you want to cancel your subscription? how are you going to access your data/files? and you'd probably need to download that content to your own hard drive if you chose to do that anyway - so why not do it directly on an SD card from the beginning?).

The only reason why this phone didn't get a 5 star review is that it does not have wireless charging. Other than that, it pretty much does everyting I need it to do and nothing I don't. The camera is decent. The Snapdragon processer is pretty good and I really like the fact that the phone does not have a whole lot of useless manufacterer bloatware that you will likely never use in your entire life. Setting up and migrating apps from my old phone was a breeze. It also comes with a protective case and the phone comes packaged with a pre-fitted screed protector. All in all, good phone that I would recommend. I don't think you can really beat this phone at the pricepoint. Pretty good bang for your buck really.

OPPO, and I haven't looked back since.

First OPPO Experience My first OPPO was a gem, lasting 7 to 8 years. The only reasons I upgraded were storage issues and charging problems. This durability impressed me, and it solidified my trust in OPPO.

Current OPPO Experience My new OPPO is brilliant. It charges incredibly fast, making it indispensable for daily use. The phone's performance is excellent, and I use it for everything.

Rating: 4/5 Stars The only drawback is the concern about data privacy, as with most smartphones. However, this doesn't detract from the phone's overall quality and performance.

Conclusion OPPO phones are durable and offer fast charging, making them a great choice for those seeking reliability and speed. Despite privacy concerns, I highly recommend OPPO for its excellent user experience.

worst aspect is the way that photos that you take just disappear from the Gallery and cannot be recovered. The camera is super unresponsive with or without an external SD, and recording video is almost impossible in my case. No software update has ever improved it. Battery is OK, and fast charging is good, but the camera situation makes it unusable. I find the phone fairly slow and laggy. The hotspot often blocks me from using Zoom and other necessary apps, and switching audio from Bluetooth to speaker is a pain. Unfortunately, this means it'll be back to one of the Samsung A series instead next time, and will be staying away from OPPO phones.
