When extra mile movers damage my goods how do you go about getting compensation or is it just the risk you take?

Short answer is you wont get compensation.they tell you to get 3 quotes for cleaning/repair..then when you do they will not return your calls,emails or messages. I even have the CEOs mobile number..he won't answer my calls.

The office are the same. They just keep telling me someone will call me back but they never do.

So you are saying if they damage your goods ( which they almost certainly will) they will not compensate you. If you ask for compensation they will give you the run around and lie to you hoping you will go away. How is this business still operating?

Hello Nick, if damages or mistakes happened during the moving job we can cover you if you are asking for a reasonable compensation. otherwise, As a peace of mind, you can buy your own insurance which is gonna cost you not more than $250 before the moving day from the recommended insurance companies that we send to you along with the quote, and you can insure your load for whatever value you are looking for.

Forget about any compensation. Fair trading has now put them on the do not use warning list due to lack of service and volumes of complaints that Fair Trading has received. See media release from Minister for Fair Trading.

yeah compensation would be unlikely looking at the reviews. BTW you can ignore the positive reviews, the manager admitted to me he gets employees to write fake reviews, this business is unbelievable!

Good luck getting any compensation - I'm also getting the runaround from them. They tell you no worries at the start, get a couple quotes then threaten you and tell you they have no liability for any breakages - despite what the office of fair trading states that they do in fact have a professional duty of care and are liable for compensation. They broke my big screen TV while moving, not only was the screen smashed but they actually snapped the plastic frame around the screen right in half - no idea how they did that but they dont seem to think it's their fault at all.. Don't use these dodgy scumbags.

I have now found out that this business not only has employees/contractors leaving fake reviews but also pays people to write fake reviews!

How can you report a terrible service company like Extra Mile? What authority in NSW and Australia that could penalise them for misleading and untrue information as well as service quality?

I don't know, you can possibly ring the department of fair trading. They would probably be able to help.

You can report businesses to Department of Consumer Affairs in NSW - google lodge a complaint with Fair Trading NSW and they will act as your advocate but unless the service / product is licensed their powers are limited. They can and will prosecute where they can.

Great... Thanks for your help, especially given I have just received a phone call from the company telling me they would not return my deposit until I took my review down. They made up some rubbish story saying the EFT wont go through until I remove review. I asked them if they were blackmailing and they said no, but the EFT wont work until i remove the review, so I asked them to post me a cheque. She said she would need to speak to the manager. The company is now blackmailing me and threatening to keep the money until they I remove the bad review of them..... Appalling!! I will be in discussion with the department of fair trading to report these guys.

I went to Dept Of Fair Trading to get my deposit back. Legally they cannot without your money because of bad reviews. They failed to provide a service so the reviews are accurate. I believe this company needs to be shut down and I am more than happy to provide email correspondence of their illegitimate ways to help do this.

I've made a complaint to Fair Trading NSW, but there is not much they can do until they get at least 10 complaints. From the reviews I can see that I'm not the only one feeling deceived by this company.

I too have had an awful experience with this company. Just to let you know I also lodged a complaint with Fair Trading. They are not a governing body that can force them to compensate for loss and damage, however I am taking the matter further with a lawyer and possibly through NCAT if they do not respond favourably to my letter of demand. Am interested to hear the outcome of others' fair trading lodgements. If 10 or more complaints are received in a calendar month then fair trading will note the company on their complaints register which launched last month. If you haven't lodged a complaint but intend to, now seems to be a good time to do so. Here is the link to the register:

I also reported them to the OFT NSW , but unfortunately despite them talking to the the Operations Director of the company they were unable to secure the return of my deposit ..... Even though the company never turned up to pack and move my belongings , so legally were ineligible to retain my $500 ! I'm very frustrated with OFT NSW how many complaints and robbed customers is it going to take for them to force this company to stop trading ? Isn't that what the OFT is for ? To protect customers ?

They said my only recourse was to take legal action - more time and more money !!!

Tgis happened to one of my friends!! I believe the ACCC/Fair Traiding or even NCAT can also help you. A community legal service can usually also write a quick letter of demand on your behalf to send to the company. Sounds like unconsionable conduct if ever I heard it.

Another avenue that might also be good is submitting an FU tube to the ABCs

They will not only spread the word so others don't get duped but they can often do correspondence/ legal advice/investigations on your behalf. Good luck guys!

We need to spread the words out. Thanks for the link Sharon. Perhaps this needs to go further to current affairs etc to bring more people to be aware of this as I can see more victims writing their reviews up to date. I really don't wish to see anyone else to experience or have to deal with this company!!! Relocating, moving homes, with family friends or with kids, are meant to be an exciting moment if not a lifetime milestone for some and this company has absolutely no responsibilities no standards or anything to do so. I am not good with words and am out of words to describe how this company can even be allowed in the market for any consumers? Please stop more people falling into their trap!

channel 9 did a cracker of a story on these rouges. they must have a standard response to all the complaints. they also pay for the positive comments. Glad we had the current affair story to tell the public. If anyone is still using them then its a shame. we now need to use social media to really get the complaints out there. There will be a follow up story on all of those who still have not been treated as they ought to and be provided adequate compensation. Its not over yet extra mile !!!
