Lexus LX Questions & Answers
VerifiedHas anyone in Australia fitted a turbo to a lexus lx 470 if so could I have a name please cheers
Hi does the lx470 need a transmission cooler for towing or is it come fitted with a cooler? Peter
Hi i am about to buy a 2008 Lexus Luxury sport Model is 250. The car looks great only about 84000 klm's. The worry i have is that the service Log Books Had the dates of the service written on them but no klm's were written anywhere on the service log books. The seller told me that Lexus doesn't write in the klm's and he said he used to sell Lexus in his old dealership. The seller has only had car for about 8 months and buys the odd car to on sell. I love the car just wondering if there would be anything to worry about this.
I’m thinking of buying lexus LX470 (1998-2006) but i wanna know which year has main ans sub?
Hi there,
I looking to buy an LX 570.
Has anyone converted the lx570 to gas?? What are they like on fuel and are parts easy to get Australia wide?? Any feed back will be appreciated
Thanks
Mark
Hi there, I did ask this question when i purchased my Lx570 new. I recall that there was no room for the tank. I have a 3 tonne caravan just came up to bluesfest byron bay from sydney. It took 1.5 tanks to get up here at about $150 per tank. The computer tells me 28 litres ooer 100kms. Thats fully loaded. With a massive caravan Around town in Sydney traffic about 18 litres per 100kms. Cant remember highway mileage without caravan. Parts are fully available as its under toyota parts management. Everyone will tell you its just a Toyota, which is partly true and also annoying..lol but that is cefinitely an advantage.as Toyota have the best parts availability in this country.
This is a car that requires less maintenance than the last model.
It has been super reliable no issues in 6 years.
Get the factory extended warranty if you can as parts can be expensive.
Hope this helps.
Jono
Thanks Jono, Awesome to hear parts are readily available. Fuel consumption is a bit of a concern.I am looking at second hand so I will wait and see what happens.
Mark H, Yes it can be done, hope this helps external link
hi.I am considering buying a 1999 lx470 with 98000 ks could this low ks be a problem is it possible to alter the clock? what precautions should i take if any? peter
Hi mate. Seems awfully low but these things do happen. I'd want to see detailed log books showing the service history and therefore verifying the ks. Most lexus would have excellent service history.
I'm not sure if the ks could be altered or not, but anything is possible.
A 1999 would not hav the five speed auto.
Good luck.
Gavin
Thanks Gavin would a 04 with 160000 Ks be better?
Regards peter
Hi There, I believe you could go to the Lexus dealership with the VIN and maybe Rego number and see if they can pull servicing records. How many owners? My LX 470 was one of the best vehicles I ever owned. Totally reliable, cheap on LPG, just keep an eye on the fron stub axle bearings if it will go offroad.
Cheers
Jono
Thanks Jono
1 previous owner. It sounds like lpg will be the go.
Peter
Sorry. Yes the 04 if it has good log books etc would be a better bet. The timing belt needs changing at 150k along with water pump etc so it should of been done just check.
Good luck
Hi! I am considering to buy a Lexus LX470 (year 2003-2007). I currently have a 1998 3.4L petrol Toyota Prado which is serving me well even with 380,000kms on the clock! I am a lover of petrol motors & not diesel but many tell me I should get a diesel. I will be towing a caravan up to 23ft so towing power is important which the LX470 should do with ease! Does the 141 litres of fuel go in one main tank or a sub tank as well? Thanks in advance.
From Wayne!
Hi Wayne, When you convert to gas you lose the sub tank. From memory the sub tank is about 41 litres. I think there were 2 fillers behind the one fuel lid from memory. Try a gas conversion, alot of caravanners do it for the cost effectiveness. You lose the sub tank but you then gain a LPG tank which is about 80 litres. So you end up with extended range. You won't be disappointed with the Lx470. You will lose about 10% power on gas but gain range, $$ efficiency and a cleaner running engine. The only heavy maintenance I had to do on mine was the inner driveshaft bearings on the front. Fail to do them and you will spin a stub axle bearing calling for a new stub axle. Regularly repack front inner axle bearings with waterproof grease and keep the rubber boots in good order and you'll have a lifetime friend in this car, honestly best car I ever owned. Diesel is great for offroading extreme outback stuff due to petrol unavailability in aboriginal communities. Gas is better for $$ esp caravanners, leaving you more for spending on trips!!
Go for it.
Jono
Hi Wayne it's been some time now since I've sold my Lexus LX 470 however from memory it has one main tank and 1 sub tank both tanks of filled by the one filler. Regards Gary
Gday Gary! Thanks for your reply! I guessed that there would be a sub tank but was interested to know! So would you say they were an overall good towing vehicle with some added luxuries? Cheers from Wayno!
Thanks for your knowledge & great maintenance tips Jono! I agree with you in regards to a gas converted model giving more kms to road trips which is important to me! After seeing that you have upgraded to the LX570 it tells me you are more than happy with Lexus vehicles & the luxury which they ooze! Cheers from Wayno!
I have a Lexus LX470, most awesome vehicle I have owned, anyway has anyone had there's chipped?
Hi, I agree with you. The LX470 is a fantastic vehicle to own and drive. I have never chipped a vehcile so I can't help you there - sorry. Why would you want to?
25% increase in power & better fuel economy as it uses all untapped facets of the on board computer
Hi. I am considering buying a 2004ish LX 470. A friend has suggested the door seals will definitely need replacing (if not already done) to reduce road noise and reduce dust getting in. He suggests the new seals will reduce noise, but even new seals will not stop the dust. We do a fair bit of driving on red dirt and gravel, and hence this is important. Any ideas or experience?
Hi Macca.
I have not ever experienced a problem with dust coming in through worn out door seals, and the LX is a quiet as a mouse. I would investigate this further as I don't think it is a real problem at all.
Cheers
Hi iam considering selling my thirsty 98 gu 4.5l petrol patrol and buying a lexus lx470 on Lpg for around $20 -25 k range.Would like to get a 4,2 td patrol but not to many around and havent heard to many good stories about th 3.0 L td any comments appreciated. Cheers.
Hi. You won't look back going for the Lexus LX 470. The 470 will ride better and it's packed full of creature comforts with all the reliability that we love about the 100/470 series. If you plan off road touring the 470 as capable off road as the 100 series and you will do it all in style. I love my LX470 and I know you will enjoy yours when you get it. As for the gas side, all I know is this should 1/2 the running costs. Hope this helps
Hi I am concidering buying a Lexus LX470 as opposed to the 100 series cruiser because they have all the options and are generally cheaper.
What I would like to know is does the Lexus have the same running gear ect. and how does it perform off road? as I plan on useing it off road. Not hard core off road but I would like to clime a few mountains haha.
Hi. You won't look back going for the Lexus LX 470 over the 100 series. The 470 will ride better and it's packed full of creature comforts with all the reliability that we love about the 100/470 series. The 470 is as capable off road as the 100 series and you will do it all in style. I love my LX470 and I know you will enjoy yours when you get it. As with any older model car, take you time and buy a good one, which is typically easier to do on the LX470 vs 100 series because most LX470 owners would not take their car off road. Hope this helps.
