40:1 That is 40 parts fuel to 1 part oil (975ml petrol with 25ml of oil). Use a recommended 2 stroke oil for small garden equipment only. I use McCuloch or Hasqvana 2 stroke oil but would be happy to use a well known brand like Penrite also.

Try Ebay or Gumtree

Remove the air cleaner and Check the air cleaner is clean. check the spark plug is clean and gap is set correctly (sorry I don't know the gap off the top of my head but it should be in the manual)

While the spark plug is out

Pull the exhaust off and inspect the piston for scoring.

After you remove the exhaust use a torch to look inside the port to see the piston.

pull the ripcord slowly to turn the engine over while looking at the piston.

Gouges in the piston will Reduce the effectiveness of the combustion, when they get bad enough the engine will fail to run at all.

Resist the temptation to twiddle screws until you know the status of the engine first.

A few things to consider.

Does the engine run with the throttle open

Doses it idle ok when the engine is cold / choke on / choke off or does it not idle at all.

Excellent thank you. It runs good on throttle but faulters when idling and hot. My mechanic can't seem to fix it

Clean the oil ducts of fine timber particle and clean the bar channel by scrapping it out. Some timbers you cut absorb more of the oil and can give the chain a dryer appearance.
