Hi There, can your battery be added to existing systems, we have a 3.6kw, 6panel setup

Not sure
Not sure

Currently we have 3 phase power and have a 5kw single phase inverter ,we are about to install a battery system ,the battery company is saying we should install a 3 phase inverter and we are okay with that. However our issue is we have a Tesla Gen 3 EV car charger and currently gets approx 10 kw to the charger. From reading the specs a 5 kw 3 phase inverter will only give approx 3.5 -4 kw of power to the EV charger which will double the time to charge , is there any other advantage to having a 3 phase inverter as opposed to a single phase inverter ? Any advice greatly appreciated

QLDZDR
QLDZDR

The Solar Battery Group TV advertisment implies that Solar Battery will avoid the problem of power blackouts. We have been considering a battery add-on to our existing 3 phase solar panels, but the advantages of having backup power automatically come on during a Queensland blackout was not a feature of batteries according to electricians. We would need to have a backup generator if we wanted guaranteed continuous power during a blackout. So is the TV ad misleading?

Bruce
Bruce

As long as you have power in the battery you should have power to the hose in a blackout. When the battery runs out then there is no power.

Thanks for your answer, Solar Battery Group haven't replied to my emailed enquiry, so I was hoping they monitored this website

QLDZDR

WOW!!! reading about what other people are saying... .... spending $17,000 on a battery and almost power bill neutral??? I am guessing there was $10,000 spent on solar panels too. So how long does it take to become power bill neutral when that $27,000 is factored in?

We were fed the lie over ten years ago, that a 2.5kW solar system (they didn't even know about batteries then) would mean we never have to see a power bill again.... How do those salespeople sleep at night?

Hi QLDZDR, I have sent you a private message to discuss your issues further. Look forward to speaking soon.

Hi QLDZDR, do not use them. I'm an engineer and they are extremely overpriced which most people may not notice. The reviews are fake as almost all reviewers have posted just once (usually reviewers post over the years about their various goos and bad purchases)

QLDZDR
QLDZDR

Thanks Bruce, I see, the Tesla battery is now connected to the AC circuit in the home and the solar power inverter and grid is on the other side of that. I was told when the grid goes down, the solar inverter shuts down to stop the isolated grid from holding electricity so a DC battery module on the inverter would also shut down.

Now these AC connected batteries on individual homes will isolate the home from the grid and continue to power the home.

I had to get the explanation from another battery company 'STORE YOUR ENERGY' Utilise solar power and store it into your own battery to power your home at night and during a blackout....

Solar battery group is just a broker, so they just talk $$$$ and push a very small battery to keep the price low. ROI doesn't add up.

If Tesla is specifying 13.6kWh why would anyone go smaller?

Stop_shonky_sellers
Stop_shonky_sellers

Hi QLDZDR,

Yes you are correct that they quote a small battery to show a low price.

But the small battery (1.5kWh or 2kWh) is about the same capacity as a large CAR battery. How much does a car battery cost compared to their offering?

Stop_shonky_sellers
Stop_shonky_sellers

Also I agree... Solar Battery Group offering a $17,000 solution to "save" on your power bills is not cost effective. If you fully charge a battery every day from solar, and use all that energy to power your house at night, and do that every day for 10 years, the cost of power you get from your battery is about 40c/kWh. Compare that to buying it from an energy company of around 25c/kWh.

Now, be realistic. You will not charge a battery to 100% every day (rain, clouds, winter). Let's say on average your panels charge a battery to 50%. Now the cost of power to you from your battery is about 80c/kWh.

Add in that if you are home during the day, you will be using power from your solar panels and there will be less "spare" to charge a battery.

Real world situation is that the cost of power to you from a battery is likely to be around $1.00/kWh.

Oh... batteries degrade over time and at 10 years can only hold 70% of the charge they did when new.

Economics says that storing your own energy is much more expensive than just buying it from the grid.

I received a private message.... Hi QLDZDR, I would like to ask about the company you made reference to in a past Product Review conversation regarding the Solar Battery Group. The company mentioned was: 'STORE YOUR ENERGY' . I cannot find a company with that name online. Can you steer me toward the company you got your good information from if possible? Thank you. Liz.

Answer.. contact 1300 360047 (company name removed because it is a competitor of Solar battery group)

When will I get my deposit back? I called with an enquiry about getting solar for a new home that I'm awaiting settlement on, ie really just wanted price and info on availability. Jake the Salesman told me I needed to pay a deposit to put a system on hold as they were selling fast but I've since found that I will need to get my meterbox upgraded so have decided it's out of my price range to go ahead with getting solar. I've signed nothing, filled out none of the paperwork you sent me AND called both Jake (no response, didn't answer and ignored message) and your reception (was told you'd be in touch soon) but STILL no refund! Very angry EX customer here, seems like a con to me! You're quick to take $$$ but doesn't seem so easy for you to refund the money! When will someone be in touch with me about this or who do I contact to make an official complaint?

If you paid via credit card ask them to get your payment back.

Hi J9, I also received a letter, but I spotted the scam. I'd lodge with the arbitration commission (easy to do online). They contact these sellers and get a response, often within a couple of days.

If you like, instead just lodge a small claims court action (costs about $70 I think) and them they will listen, and if mot a judge will make a legally binding decision.

Hope you get your deposit back.

Hey Urvi. That's right - we are running that promotion on the 2.9kwh Alpha B3 battery, which is the most popular solar battery in Australia. I'd suggest chatting with one of our solar specialists so you can discuss what would be best for your home, as solar solutions aren't always a one-size-fits-all depending on your house size, number of panels, wattage, usage, number of people in the home etc.

Happy to discuss your circumstances and evaluate the best options for you, Urvi. Give us a bell - 1300 223 224 - or flick us a message and we'll give you a ring when it suits. Cheers

10kW solar, but they only spec less than 3kW of battery??? seems like they are under specifying like the beginning of solar systems when they told us that a 1.5kW to 2.5kW was enough to reduce electricity bill to nothing

Stop_shonky_sellers
Stop_shonky_sellers

Hi Urvi D, They are overpriced and some people have stated they are a scam. A 2.5kWh battery will be flat overnight after powering your fridge and boiling a kettle a few times. A Tesla battery is up to 10 times larger in capacity and costs about $12,000 installed.

My recommendation is to use a reputable batteries and companies.

Hope this helps

Martin Turner
Martin Turner

A 2.9kWh battery will only get you through the period your PV system isn't producing if you're only powering the light bulbs in your house. Turn on your stove or cook top or kick in your AC and you'll quickly drain your battery. You'll probably trip out the battery as well....maximum output for the B3 battery is only 3kW (Tesla Powerwall is 10kW). For an average household anything less than a 10kWh battery is a waste of time and money.

My system is a 2.5 Kw 12 panel, grid connected approx. 10 years old. If additional rejected panels (10 year old ) were added to increase the Power to 5 Kw. Could my system be fitted with a battery? We are an elderly couple pensioners, our needs are not great. But Aircon is essential together with Fridge, Hot water, Water pump, TV, lighting and Septic system.

It is completely off grid but is presently set up with a large bank of old Telstra type batteries, which have been very adequate up until recently. What is the cost and the life expectancy of the battery

Margaret
Margaret

Hi Rob, The cost foe the 2x5kw batteries was Near 10,000. The guarantee was for 10 years. Hope this helps.

Solar Battery Group
Solar Battery Group   DM

Hi Rob, there are a few important key price factors when we talk about the cost of a fully installed solar battery: *Battery size *Voltage *Quality *Battery technology *Grid or off grid *Brand *Backup enabled (blackout protection) *Variation in installation (supporting wall material, bollards, etc.)

Don’t forget that thanks to financing options, enjoying the benefits of a solar battery has never been easier or more accessible. We also offer a Best Price Guarantee on any fully installed solar battery.

The life expectancy of the battery will depend on the model and brand. We recommend you searching for the technical sheet of the model that interests you and identifying the life cycle data. This will tell you how many full cycles of charge and discharge that particular battery can complete before losing performance.

Solar Battery Group
Solar Battery Group   DM

Hi Greg, thank you for your question. Although you didn't specify whether you're looking for PV panels, a solar battery or both, I'll try my best to explain how we would go about it. Our process can include a site visit so that our installer is able to assess any challenge we may face with your site - namely, the roof angle, materials, switchboard, etc. There are certain conditions under which we may not be able to proceed with the install, but they're very limited.

The best way to go about this is to give us a call on 1300 223 224 and get the process started so we can give you a definite answer and a quote for a battery tailored to your needs. We also have a chat with you about budget and other circumstances surrounding your solar solution (like any export limits imposed by distributor, size limits, available rebates if any, etc.).

Alternatively, please send through your contact details via a private message and we can arrange a call back at your earliest convenience.

I already have solar panels 6.7kw installed, done about 12 months ago. How long will a battery hold the stored power instead of sending to grid? I find that we use the power more at night rather than during the day, particularly R/C air conditioner.

Solar Battery Group
Solar Battery Group   DM

Hi David, thank you for your question. Solar batteries (like any other electricity storage) have a capacity - or how much energy the battery can store. This will vary depending on the brand and model. Charge and discharge rates also vary, meaning that you may only store into or use energy from the battery depending on its architecture and construction. In a typical setting, your solar battery will charge through the day from the excess energy generated by your solar. Once charged, any excess will be sold to the grid and you'll receive a feed-in tariff for it. At night, or as soon as your solar panels stop producing, your battery will kick in, providing you with energy until it runs out. The battery will hold stored power until you need it. The power sent to the grid during the day comes from your solar panels, not your battery - that is unless we're talking about other solutions like Virtual Power Plants that may use your battery to trade energy in a different way.
