Sunbeam Barista Max EM5300S (Silver) Questions & Answers
VerifiedMPNs: 14721, 807032 and EM5300SHello. Our machine (less than 1.5 years old) is dripping in places it shouldn't be and when it shouldn't be. Yesterday it started running out of the steam wand when we were trying to put a shot of coffee in which means there's no pressure where the coffee runs out..We've also cleaned it and the cleaning light does not go off. Please help!
I have the same issue. I found this info on a repairers website: "Part Number: EM5300165 Note: if hot water comes out of steam nozzle instead of coffee coming out from Head then this selector switch could be faulty"
Thank you James! We'll definitely try that!
We have had the Barista Max for about 1.5yrs, has worked well. Now when turning on.. The dial light and the steam light are both flashing on/off very fast. The other three lights for Manual, 1 cup and 2 cups are not lighting up. I have scoured the internet for solutions, but no help. Please help...

Hi Nick, same thing is happening to my machine. We're you able to fix the problem?
After cleaning and several descaled attempts now find that the steamer light does not come on, resulting in steamer not being operative. Any suggestions. Serial number being 2418.
Our machine is not going on. We've checked the plug where it's plugged in with a different appliance, but it's not working at all. It's this something that can be fixed at home quickly?
My steam wand is dripping hot water while the coffee is being extracted from the group head . I’m thinking there must be a seal on the wand which isn’t closing properly. My machine is over 2 years old . My question is .... Is this an easy fix ( inexpensive) ? Or am I better off buying a new machine ?
Hi Tom, I have just sent you a private message if you could kindly respond via this please. Thanks

Hey there, is there another way to clean your coffee machine without the tablets?
My CLEAN light is on and my supplier is out of cleaning tablets. I’ll probably be a month or so till I can get some. Thank you for your help.
Cheers, Mahea
Hi Mahea You can use white vinegar & warm water. Thanks
Do you put water in the back or milk ., ops I found it?,? Can it be responsible question, when I have never operated a barista coffe machine ,?
Hi Soussous, Water goes into the back of the machine please make sure you remove the red tag & make sure it aligns with machine when you put back in place. I have attached the product manual for you to refer to which will give you some tips on how to make great coffee external link Thanks
Hi had our machines got 18 months and it has just started leaking out the top of the steam wand.
Hi Mick, I have just sent you a private message if you could kindly respond via this please. Thanks
I have been getting coffee that is not hot enough (I don't have a thermometer but definitely less warm than the ones we get at the cafe). I have warmed up my cup, and make sure my milk is hot enough I can't touch the jug for more than 3 seconds. Are there any other tips to make sure the coffee is hot instead of lukewarm? Thanks, Isaac
Hi Kin Heng Tam,, The Barista Max allows water temperature to be changed from the recommended 92°C in 2°C increments to cater for personal preferences. If you refer to page 22 of the product manual attached this will show you how to external link Thanks
Hi, my barista max is only just over a year old, & I have absolutely loved this machine! However, it has begun leaking water from around the outside of the group head and where the join is between the front panel and the plastic area underneath the control panel. I’ve always followed all instructions in the manual in regards to care and cleaning, so I’m very upset that this is happening. I’ve had cheaper machines last years and years longer than this without issue. Can I get some assistance with what has gone wrong please?
Hi Heidi, I have just sent you a private message if you could kindly respond via that please. Thanks
We have have our sunbeam for about 10 months and clean it regularly. The water pressure seems really low. I’ve compared this to a friend with the same machine and the amount of coffee they use, and I use much less and tamp much softer and for me the coffee just trickles out. I’ve tried different grinds with different beans but not much working unless. Could it be a fault with the pump?
Hi Andrew C, I have just sent you a private message if you could kindly respond via that please. Thanks
Purchased this machine new today and am not able to simultaneously pour espresso and use Milk texturer. The espresso pouring just stops once the streamer gets turned on. It was advertised as being able to do this though.
Hi SMA, When the steamer first turns on it does a cleaning process then turns itself off again & then come back on ready to steam. Hope this answers your question. Thanks
No, not really. I was under the impression that I'd be able to let the espresso shots run at the same time as frothing my milk and this is not the case unfortunately.
Hi SMA, Yes Sorry that is correct our machine is a single thermoblock pump not a twin thermoblock. Thanks
Oh that's very disappointing since the main feature we were looking for was the twin and the listing online where we bought it (David Jones) states that it indeed has a Twin thermoblock. I'm not very impressed with that.
I find it very interesting that you haven't yet replied my last comment. David Jones are still marketing this machine as a Twin Thermoblock....
Hi SMA, I have just sent you a private message if you could kindly respond via that please. Thanks
Hello again I just checked David Jones' website and they're STILL advertising this machine as a twin thermoblock. Their false advertising has been going for at least the 6 months since we bought our machine!!
Hi SMA, Thank you for notifying me I have passed this on to management whom will look into this & get this fixed. Thanks
Hi there, I have been practicing with the machine with different grind settings, and at your suggestion of 23 - 25, while the coffee tastes great, the pour, which is good, lasts under 10 secs. I have tried 28, same result. It is a good pour, but does not last the 25 - 30 secs suggested in the User Guide (or elsewhere for that matter). I tamp the beans as per the instructions, even watched the videos, seems to be the same, but the pour (1 cup) is still very brief. I always get between 30 - 40ml of coffee. Jenny
Hi Jenny N, Please see attached the instructions manual if you refer to page 23 at the end of the page external link you will find the restore all default settings. If you do this step this will factory reset you machine & your pour settings. Thanks
Hi there, I have restored the default settings as per p23 and the pour time is still < 10 seconds. Any further advice? Thanks. Jenny
Hi Jenny, I have just sent you a private message if you could kindly respond via that please. Thanks
Hi I've had the Sunbeam Barista Max for just over a year. Recently there is a lot of water leaking out somewhere from the bottom of the machine. I regularly empty the tray and keep it clean. Just wondering if there is a solution to this problem?
Hi Ian. Firstly can I get you to check the below to see if this maybe causing your issue. 1- Make sure drip tray is pushed tightly against the machine. Empty drip tray regularly to avoid waste water overflow. 2- Make sure red plug on the water reservoir is removed and reservoir is sitting flush against the machine. Check for any cracks or foreign particles stuck on the valve / connectors on the water tank and machine base. 3- If it's leaking from group head make sure group head handle is on tight and check for the seal. Please let me know if this assist's you. Thanks
Hi Sunbeam, we have had our machine since christmas and has worked great until now. When we go to use the tap n go intergrated grinder it just beeps?? Surely this is an easy fix or im doing something wrong?
Hi Mason, Troubleshoot through the scenarios below: 1- No coffee beans in the Bean Hopper. Fill the Bean Hopper with freshly roasted coffee beans. 2- Hopper Gates are closed or not fully open. Turn the Bean Hopper in a clockwise direction. At Grind Setting 30, Hopper Gates are fully open. See Removable Bean Hopper section in our Product Manual (refer to page 8). 3- The Grind Chamber or Outlet is blocked. Grinder needs cleaning. You can find the full grinder care and cleaning information in our Product Manual (refer to page 28 - 29). Attached is the product manual external link Hope this helps you. Thanks
Hi, I have had my machine for about 4 months and for the most part it’s great - when I only need to make 1 coffee that is. When I go to make a 2nd cup for visitors etc the coffee only drips through and won’t come through in a steady stream. What am I doing wrong? Have descaled it, tried changing the grind, run water between coffees etc but no luck. Any other suggestions or is it faulty and needs to be returned? Thanks
Hi Blossom1, I have just sent you a private message if you could kindly respond via that please. Thanks
