I need to replace my double filter basket. Original has developed a crack.

Can anyone confirm that a 18g VST will fit the standard sunbeam group handle?

Cheers.

Sunbeam
Sunbeam   DM

Hello Grant, Thank you for contacting Sunbeam. The Café Series Espresso Machine uses a 58mm group head. Most 18g VST baskets are 58mm in diameter, however, you should ensure this before your purchase.

I have the 7000 and I can't seem to get strong coffee. I grind fine and use the 2 cup case. Am I doing something wrong or missing a step??

Sunbeam
Sunbeam   DM

Hello Jane, Thank you for contacting Sunbeam. It sounds like your pour is under extracted, there are a number of possible reasons for this and solutions: 1. Beans are old or pre-ground grinds are dry - Use fresh beans and grinds. Be sure to store pre-ground grinds in an airtight container. 2. Grinds not compacted enough - Tamp more firmly. 3. Grinds too coarse - Use a finer grind coffee. 4. Uneven tamping or obstruction in the pouring spouts - Ensure coffee is tamped evenly and check there is nothing obstructing the pouring spouts. 5. Type of coffee being used - Try different brands of coffee or a darker roast.

Please try the above troubleshooting steps to perfect Café style coffee at home.

I have had my EM7000 for over 7 years and am very happy. it's never missed a beat. I recently bought a replacement filter cartridge and it doesn't stay in place - just floats to the top of the water reservoir. I have changed this part many times before without issue and can't fathom what's happening. I wonder if an o-ring or something is missing (maybe came off when I tool the old cartridge off or something). I have already thrown the old cartridge away sadly. What holds the cartridge in place? I've never really paid attention as it was always just a simple take the old cartridge off and put the new one on but there seems to be no tension holding it in place.

Hi Bron, I stopped using a cartridge, saves the headache of having to buy them, plus it doesn't seem to make a difference. But I'm in Melbourne and our tap water is beautiful.

Hi Bron, The cartridge clips into the O ring in the tank side ways with the side with the 4 pieces clipping into the bottom. Thanks

The auto-drip 1-cup and 2-cup functions have ceased to work. When you push either button, the machine comes on and begins to pump for a second or so and then stops. The manual function still works fine.

Hi Heather, Firstly have you tried cleaning & descaling the machine? If you could refer to pages 20 to 23 of the product manual attached external link  please do this & let me know if your issue keeps continuing. Thanks

My EM7000 warms the top cup warmer. It also produces hot steam. However the water passing through the coffee is cold. The water from the RHS hot water spout is also cold? What does this mean and how do I fix it?

Hi, I bought this just over a week ago, upgraded from the minni barista.

I don’t think the pressure is working in the machine. The pressure gauge does not move when pulling shots (I have played around with grind size and amount of coffee in a double shot). We are getting no creamer either.

Could this be faulty?

PASH
PASH

The pressure pump in my unit broke at the neck and had to be replaced. As your unit is only a week old it should be covered by warranty. The machine makes great cappuccinos.

PHM
PHM

Start with freshly ground beans. If your beans are old, no amount of fine grinding will save them. The grind size should be fine for espresso coffee. The degree is fineness required fluctuates during the day, so play around with this. Pack the ground beans tightly into the basket. If the grind is not fine enough the water will go straight through without registering on the dial. Does the machine pump water for a black coffee (tap on rhs of the machine)? If not there is a problem.

WE got a replacement machine and it is still doing the same thing. I have tried different sizes of the grind. We have the breville grinder, does anyone know the settings it should be on?

How often do you need to change the shower head washer in the group head?

Hello Peter, The manual suggests for it to be changed every 6 months but that would depend on your use and everyday cleaning. Had my EM7100 almost since 2016 and it has been great. In last couple of months though it has started putting water into waste rather than through the grinds. I haven't changed anything and have descaled and cleaned but no pressure at head. Any ideas?

I got my EM7000 years ago. Now it have the problem, when I press all the espresso button (including manual, one cup and 2 cup button), It became the hot water working instead. By any chance to know what is the problem causing this? Will it be expensive to fix?

Sunbeam

Hi Kheng, Sorry to hear of your issues with your EM7000. It does sound like an issue with the PCB however it is hard to diagnose on this platform. My recommendation would be to visit one of our service agents for an assessment. All agents can be located on the Sunbeam website external link

Sounds like a problem I had with my EM6900 before I purchased my EM7000. It required a new main computer board & cost was around the $180 mark from memory (was 3 or 4 years ago)

Hi, my machine is new and I have had a lot of coffee machines over the years but the pressure guage is not working much and there is no crema??

Dan N
Dan N · Cafe Series Espresso EM7000 (Stainless)

Had my em7000 for 15 months and really only use the double shot basket. Last few weeks have noticed I have had to tamper harder and harder to keep pressure up until now where even with loads of force on tamper, little to no pressure. Swapped to a single basket to eliminate machine issue, pulls fine. Is it likely just the double basket needs replacing (warped?)

It certainly gets a workout.

RoboCook
RoboCook

I use both single & double baskets (I use VST brand baskets 15gm for single & 22grm for double because I use a larger mug ) but there is a difference in the grind required between the two different baskets, using a Breville 820 grinder I have to grind 3 clicks finer for the double basket (this was also true for the standard Sunbeam baskets). I also find that the temperature difference between Summer & Winter makes a difference to the grind required for example single basket in Winter I grind at 13 to 14 on the grinder scale but in the Summer (same brand of coffee beams) I have to adjust my grind down to 8 to 9 on the scale, The same goes for a double basket 10 to 12 Winter & 6 to 7 Summer. Also had to make the same sort of adjustments when I used a Sunbeam grinder. I have also found that pre ground coffee beans are not ground fine enough to get sufficient pressure for a good extraction in any machine I have owned over the years. Also note that when varying the grind you have to adjust the quantity to keep the level of the coffee in the basket just touching the base plate, hope this helps.

Dan N
Dan N

Need to add that for the past 15 months I buy the same bean everytime, a new 1kg bag every 3 weeks and have never really had to adjust the grind that much. I have tried changing grind settings (Breville Smart Grind) but still no pressure. Anyone upgraded or changed their basket to an after market?

Firepower
Firepower

You mentioned "Anyone upgraded or changed their basket to an after market?" For me the standard filter baskets are useless. I used to buy green beans and roast them myself to get good crema with the standard basket then they would only last three weeks. With my Dual Floor basket you can buy the good brand coffee beans from the supermarket, keep them for a long time and you still get great full tan crema. You have to grind the beans yourself with a burr grinder.

external link

You can leave the grind setting almost anywhere and you still get great full tan crema. The pressure gauge hardly moves but you still get a great tasting crema. The experts say it is cheating and do not use these baskets but who cares as long as you get great crema all the time.

You'll never go back to the standard basket after using a dual floor basket.

Dan N
Dan N

Thank you Firepower, I'll give it a go

Hi,

My machine does not produce any pressure on the gauge and pumps no water now.

Is there an easy fix?

RoboCook
RoboCook

Firstly does your machine still froth the milk? if it does then your second pump is working OK. Have you done the cleaning cycles ( there are two of them) listed in the user manual? If yes then it may be a Warranty issue as the pumps have five years warranty on them from memory (well the EM6900 did).

Sunbeam
Sunbeam   DM

Hi Paul. Have you tried a pressure test to determine if it a pump issue or just a grind issue? If you place your cleaning disk in the 2 cup filter basket (flat side down), place the group handle into the group head and press the 2 cup button. If the pump is working to the expected standard, then the needle should be hovering between orange and red for the duration of the 2 cup cycle. If the needle does not rise, there may be an issue with the pump.

Just bought EM7000.Had a breville infuser (programmable as well)for 7 years before.Preinfusion time is too short.Starts pouring after 3 sec no matter what programming is used. Programmed single shot to around 27/28 ml several times. Results are totally random after foung that.Faulty machine?

Sunbeam
Sunbeam   DM

Hi Eddie,

As you said, there are a few programme settings for the pre-infusion.

Why don't you give our team a call on 1300 881 861 so they can go through these and see if there are any issues.

Bonnie
Bonnie · Cafe Series Espresso EM7000 (Stainless)

When turning on the machine after a minute when it sets itself up, the steam wand spits out water lightly. Looks like pressure has built up and is causing water to be released. However sometimes it drips out small amounts of water rather than spitting. This still occurred even after I descaled. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Sunbeam
Sunbeam   DM

Hi Bonnie,

It could be just a residual amount of water left in the wand.

If it persists, give us a call on 1300 881 861 to further assist you.

Dim · Cafe Series Espresso EM7000 (Stainless)

My EM7000 won’t expel coffee from the single or double cup. It works fine with the Nespresso shots and the milk and water wand is fine. Help!

Sunbeam
Sunbeam   DM

Hi Dim. When you say the machine works with the Nespresso shots, are you referring to the EM7100?? That is the machine that is compatible with the capsules or pods. If there is no coffee extracting when using the one and two cup filter baskets, your grind is most likely too fine, thus not allowing the water to push through. If you are grinding your own beans, try a coarser grind. If you have preground coffee, you will need to buy a coarser grind.
