Termimesh Questions & Answers
I have purchased a home in Adelaide that has a termimesh system It was was installed in 2007 , and last service inspected in 2011.
As it is out of warranty by 2 years - what Is the benefit of having an inspection now in 2019 ?
What does the inspection process reveal , how is it carried out ! and what does it find out about the state of the termite inspection on the property ?
Thankyou Les Grange SA
The benefit might be to save your house from serious termite damage! Annual inspections are a standard recommendation. The inspection process is (or should be) multi-faceted: visual inspections for termite shelter tubes on sites of potential termite entry, such as brick piers and perimeters of concrete slabs; thorough inspections of roofing timbers; examination of internal timbers for termite activity/damage by knocking or tapping (to detect hollows/papery wood) and devices such as moisture meters and Termatrac. While stainless steel mesh is a reliable barrier, it is not repellent (unlike most chemical barriers). This means there is nothing stopping termites from going around or 'breaching' a barrier. Most of the time SS mesh barriers are set up so that termites must build shelter tubes where they can detected by visual inspection. But this will generally need the eye of a professional pest controller.
