Can I book a rental car in NZ and pay for it in Australia before I go over there
My husband accidently swiped the gutters of our roof while moving. We are waiting on the company to get back to us with a cost. The extra insurance we got doesnt cover overhead. Any one else experienced this and can give advice?
Hi Jaime, I have not experience damage, however I have experienced Thrifty's terrible customer service. I had an issue with my rental and had contacted them by email back in July. To date I have not received a response - I have sent 3 emails and nothing. I suggest going into an actual Thrifty office and get them to follow it up for you. In my case it's not worth my while, but will never use them again. I do a lot of travelling so their loss. Good luck
hi just wondering if anybody else has had their profile blocked so your unable to rent from thrifty for making a complaint an leaving bad feedback?
From my experience I haven't heard of anything like that
Left a pretty scathing review for one of their Independent Licensees (Lawrence Vic Pty Ltd) who operates quite a few of the Suburban Melbourne locations, for a hiring experience far removed from prior smooth Hiring experiences under the Thrifty brand (Failure to disclose full charging structure in written legal documentation + Licensee Staff caught posting fake reviews) and reported the irregularities to AU Head Office. Was still able to rent through other Thrifty locations operated by other business units / franchises in Australia without any issue. Haven't tried renting through any location operated by Lawrence Vic Pty Ltd again and don't care to.
Fergus Young would you be able to let me know which other Thrifty companies in Melbourne you can hire from other than the ones thats under Lawrence Vic Pty Ltd please
Thrifty locations in Melbourne NOT operated by Lawrence Vic Pty Ltd (that I know of)... Melbourne City (Spencer St), Melbourne Airport, Brighton, South Yarra, South Melbourne. The rest of the Thrifty locations in the Melbourne area appear to be operated by Lawrence Vic Pty Ltd.
Just a heads up / FYI. Appears many of the original Thrifty network of locations throughout Australia have since rebranded themselves as SIXT Car Rental Australia.

When i booked it was a Holden at $69 per day, when i arrived to pick it up Sorry no Holden and cost $ 77 per day.

OK experiences with the Kingmill owned Thrifty outlets, bad experience with the Lawrence Vic Pty Ltd owned Thrifty outlet at Mickelham road. In saying that, it seems like quite possibly the entire vehicle rental industry in Australia is potentially rotten to the core. Dangle absurdly low daily base rates in front of customers, and use less than honest / less than upfront practices to try and turn a profit. Not prepared to entertain this sort of business conduct going forward. Have decided to steer clear of the major rental car brands and look into possibly using some of the more niche players when I'm next in Australia.
I recently just hired car. I asked about when my deposit will be given back. He just said drop the keys in box and we will let you know. I've had no response from them since. What is going on ?

It's Wednesday here in the uk. I dropped keys off on Monday whilst in Australia. Still nothing in regards to my deposit. Getting very frustrated.
They did something similar. It's nothing but, a sneaky company - if you like - you have the option of considering to contact the australian consumer watchdog
Hired cars twice from Thrifty over the past month, $200 was re-credited within 2 days in both cases.
I'm wondering the same, how long until I get my $200 back? It's been 7 days now and I'm holding off my review until it arrives.
My mistake in posting this. The refund was returned the day I returned the car, so I never expected to look that far back on my statement.
Can you hire a car with p1 license?
I dont know if there is any restrictions for P plate holders hiring a car. You need to direct this to thrifty or other hire companies. I would think as you hold a valid licence and if display yr P plates as per regulation it shouldnt be a problem.
Hertz allows for restricted licences. Contact them to confirm, not sure about the other rental car businesses.
I returned the car on Friday morning and when can I get my bond back?
They will probly find a way of keeping it.
I got mine back witihn the 5 business days. :)
How long does it take to receive $200 deposit back after returning rental in perfect order and with a full tank?
Shouldn't be more than 2-3 days tops other places van do it I a matter of minutes. But thrifty takes ages.
