group head seal for $25 and it works flawlessly every single day for the last 6 years, and before that our last one lasted 7 years. I've saved tens of thousands over the past 13 years on these two machines. If my wife and I each bought one a coffee a day from a Starbucks etc say average cost over past 13 years is $4 for a flat white, that would equate to $37,960 (yep thirty seven THOUSAND dollars over 13 years) or I could buy a $700 Breville and fresh beans every week - and woohoo savings all the way down....

new.

It has decent enough features and it's always nice being able to instantly steam the milk during or right after pulling a shot. If you're a DIYer you can also implement quite a few mods to give it even more features and functions. For the price this is an excellent machine. Whether this is the best option now in 2025 - probably not but if you do get it know that this coffee machine can pull excellent shots when paired with a more capable grinder and will last quite a while.

The grinder is great for its price and features, but once you delve deeper into the coffee world you will quickly realise its limitations and will eventually be looking for something better.

hazardous fault that compromises household safety and renders the machine unusable. Breville authorised repairers have fixed it once only for the issue to occur again, Breville authorised repairers have now quoted another $1,229 to repair it again with no guarantee that it won’t overheat and trip the safety switch. This is not a general maintenance issue it’s an electrical fault. It’s reasonable to believe that if your going to pay so much for a high cost coffee machine for it to last for a reasonable time and not have such major issues.

After using the Breville The Barista Express Impress BES876 for several months, I can confidently say it has transformed my morning coffee routine.… Read more

As someone who enjoys espresso-based drinks but doesn't have professional barista experience, I found this machine to be an excellent balance between automation and hands-on coffee making.

One of the standout features is the Impress Puck System. It takes much of the guesswork out of dosing and tamping, helping create a consistent coffee puck every time. Before using this machine, I often struggled with uneven tamping and messy preparation, but the BES876 makes the process cleaner and far more reliable.

The built-in grinder is another highlight. Freshly grinding beans directly into the portafilter noticeably improves flavor and aroma compared to pre-ground coffee. The grind adjustment settings allow for fine-tuning, making it easy to experiment with different beans and achieve the desired extraction.

Espresso quality has been impressive. The machine produces rich, flavorful shots with a thick crema when paired with quality coffee beans. Temperature stability has been excellent, and once I learned the basics of dialing in my grind settings, I was able to consistently make café-quality drinks at home.

The steam wand performs very well for milk-based beverages. It creates smooth microfoam suitable for cappuccinos and lattes, and while it requires some practice, the results are rewarding. Making latte art became much easier as my technique improved.

Build quality feels premium throughout. The stainless-steel construction gives the machine a solid and durable feel, and the controls are intuitive enough that new users can become comfortable with them fairly quickly. Maintenance is straightforward, with clear reminders for cleaning cycles and descaling.

While the machine occupies a fair amount of counter space and carries a higher upfront cost than basic coffee makers, it easily justifies the investment for anyone who regularly buys espresso drinks from coffee shops. Over time, the savings and convenience add up significantly.

Overall, my experience with the Breville The Barista Express Impress BES876 has been outstanding. It delivers excellent espresso, simplifies the preparation process, and provides an enjoyable coffee-making experience that bridges the gap between beginner-friendly convenience and genuine barista-style control.

but not enough ability to change pressure and try to mediate the bad coffee output.

Then a part needed replacing after 2 and a half years… standard low quality construction.

$250 to fix it. Allegedly. Found a repair video online that delivered the part in one day for $45 and provided a step-by-step video.

Unfortunately that tutorial didn‘t cover how to buy a machine. Would never have bought this thing in the first place

Would you spend $900+ on a coffee machine if you expected it to last just four years? That's the question I'd encourage anyone considering a… Read more

Breville coffee machine to ask themselves. I purchased what I believed was a quality, premium-brand coffee machine. After approximately four years of ordinary (below average) household use, the steam, hot water and coffee extraction functions have failed. At a typical retail price of between $900 to $1000, I don't think it's unreasonable to expect considerably better longevity. We're not talking about a cheap, disposable appliance. Breville markets itself as a quality brand, and its pricing certainly reflects that positioning. Unfortunately, my experience hasn't lived up to those expectations. And the disappointment doesn't end with the machine. When I approached Breville about the failure and my rights under Australian Consumer Law, the response was hardly reassuring. Breville has offered to have the machine assessed, but won't confirm whether I could face assessment charges until after the inspection has taken place. Meanwhile, I remain without coffee. While I appreciate that faults sometimes require diagnosis, I would have expected a premium appliance manufacturer to provide greater clarity and reassurance when a customer raises a legitimate concern about product longevity. The real cost of a coffee machine isn't just what you pay at the checkout. It's what you get for that money over its working life. That's an expensive proposition for something that should be a long-term household appliance. Of course, every manufacturer produces the occasional faulty product. What distinguishes a genuinely premium brand is how it supports customers when things go wrong. Especially for what appears to be a fairly common fault across numerous complaints. Based on my experience, Breville has fallen short on both longevity and customer confidence. My advice? Before spending many hundreds of dollars on a Breville coffee machine, look beyond the glossy advertising and impressive feature lists. Research long-term reliability, repair costs and the experiences of customers whose machines have failed outside the manufacturer's warranty. I certainly wish I'd given those things more consideration. Would I buy Breville again? No. Would I recommend it to friends or family? Not based on this experience.

cleaning cycle finishes. Automatic milk never came in at under 80 degrees on any setting. Coffee shots ranged from 18 to 35 mls on any setting. Customer service appalling. At less than 2 months old it took 3 weeks to get in to the repair agent, was there for 4 weeks and came back worse than it went in. Breville just kept offering me free coffee. of the box. Setting it up and using it was a breeze. It has a number of drink options including tea. I was very surprised the water was actually hot enough to make tea. But it does make a nice hot cuppa. Coffee, latte, flat white. Cappuccino, and more are all at the push of a button. I love it. Best of all. As I said, it all happens at the push of a button. It’s so easy to use and is mess free. Absolutely love this machine.

Excellent machine delivering great coffee every time. Ours is 18mth old and as photo shows, a great espresso. Please consider 2 aspects for great… Read more

coffee. The grind size, if too coarse it will pour to quickly leaving lno crema and lacking flavour. Too fine and it won't pour. Trial & error so grind at 6 if there are 12 settiings. Using min. quantity of beans till the right grind number is found. Don't use pre grond coffee as this is more suited to drip filter coffee. Once grind setting establishe, the tampering of the coffee should be firm so the coffee has a hard surface to the touch. Milk frother is easy to use, sink wand just below surface of milk. It should not bubble means wand not deep enough. A loud screeching sound and wand to near.bottom of jug. Raise or lower jug till a soft swishing sound is heard. The foam will then begin to form.I use filtered water which helps not having to descale frequently. We de scaled today, first time and the water was transparent brown, not bad at all. This machine passes all requirement for great coffee if the above note is observed. I use the cheapest beans, generally a 'home brand' and visitors always ask what coffee we use. I say it isn't the coffee, it's that machine. Iat machine that is responsible. I fully recommend this machine Thankyou Breville. Helen S.

August 2023 and it lasted until around February 2025 (1 1/2 yrs), before having to have it in for costly repairs (steam wand not working). The steam wand stopped working so it was put in to Coffee Complex in Adelaide to be assessed and repaired in June 2025, (delayed being fixed due to personal financial problems). December 2025 and the steam wand has again stopped working! I would not recommend taking the risk with this machine, try something else. Extremely dissapointed coffee lover :(

After owning my original Breville Dual Boiler BES920 for 9.5 years, the decision to purchase another one took less than 10 minutes. That’s probably… Read more

the best endorsement I can give any product.

My previous machine produced excellent coffee throughout its life and required no servicing. The only noticeable decline after nearly a decade was reduced steam pressure for milk texturing, which is understandable given its age and daily use.

I purchased the new BES920 in the Sea Salt White finish, and it looks fantastic in the kitchen. The colour gives the machine a modern, premium appearance and is a refreshing change from my original stainless-steel model.

From the very first coffee, I could tell the machine was performing at its best. The heat-up time is faster, the steam pressure is significantly stronger, and milk texturing is quicker and easier. Most impressive was the espresso itself. My very first shot extracted beautifully at just over 9 bar, produced excellent crema, and delivered a smooth, balanced flavour. With medium-roast beans and a brew temperature of 94°C, the result was one of the best coffees I’ve made at home.

Having used the same model for almost 10 years, I was able to appreciate how much performance had gradually been lost in my old machine without me realising it. The new BES920 reminded me just how capable this machine is when operating at full factory performance.

Over the years I’ve looked at many other espresso machines, but I never found a reason to move away from the Dual Boiler. It offers outstanding espresso quality, excellent steam performance, and reliable day-to-day operation. For home coffee enthusiasts who want café-quality coffee without spending several times more on a prosumer machine, I believe the BES920 remains one of the best choices available.

I would happily recommend this machine to anyone. After 9.5 years with my first BES920, I purchased the exact same model again without hesitation. For me, that says everything.
