stirred it vigourously. It seemed as though the motor didn’t have as much power to get the foam going. I took it back and got another under the extra Care warranty that Office Works sell. By the way it’s only 14 odd dollars and it’s definitely worth it. We got another one and I’ve only had a matter of weeks and it’s already stopped frothing the milk and it seems again as though the motor is not picking up enough power to do the job properly AGAIN. I plan on taking it back today and getting a full refund. It seems as though it’s a bit of hit and miss with this device. One of the big negatives for our coffee and tea loving family is that the jug is quite small, and if you do like to drink your coffee from a mug you will find that the capacity of this jug is its still not large enough. Pro-It is quiet Might head over to a large Nespresso milk frother

stumbled. At first glance it's a great size. Compared to most other milk frothers it holds a considerable amount, and isn't lined with those toxic non stick surfaces. Very simple to use. One button. Push it once, twice, three times... depending on what you're looking to achieve. For a few months the appliance pulled its weight well...then it began making an ungodly amount of noise while in operation. We returned it... we were given a new one. It operated perfectly. Three months in, being used maybe 5x a week, it too began the transition to "noisy" with the identical issue. We spoke to the outlet who had sold it to us. They informed us they would no longer be stocking it due to the high rate of returns. "Would you like a store credit, or a different appliance?" ...they asked. "Will it continue to make this noise? Get worse? Explode"?... we enquired. "Unsure" they said.. We kept it...a large volume of milk...stainless receptacle. It's now almost been a year... the noise hasn't increased...the frother it still working.. For the price, we hoped for much better manufacturing....however, as I said, it's still operating fine. But that noise.....!

Sleek design, detachable base, and plenty of frothy milk – There are not many milk frothers that will froth 250ml of milk (enough for two cups of coffee). I've owned the Sunbeam one for a number of years, and… Read more

now I've found this Westinghouse frother that also does 250ml. Both also have detachable base motors. The Sunbeam has been great, but a little bulky and some issues with the mixer spindle inside the jug which I fixed. But now this new Westinghouse has turned up. The design is very sleek. The motor base detaches. The milk jug will foam 250ml of milk - just (don't go over the line inside). Definitely if you leave the lid off so it doesn't contact the rising foam. I've only had the Westinghouse for a month, but it is producing reliable, firm, fine scoopable foam. I'll be interested to see how it performs in a year. There are a couple of things to be aware of (assuming mine doesn't have a minor fault). The selector sensor-touch button which allows you to choose hot frothy milk; or cold; or no froth; or chocolate milk, is not very sensitive. Sometimes I touch the button multiple times to get it going. It has a short time delay so you can cycle around. When you stop touching the button, the machine will then start after a further short delay. And then, the first time I used it, I thought it was having a meltdown what with all the noises coming out of it - sort of like a car grinding its gears (maybe not quite that loud). I now know it does the same thing every time, so not a fault. It has a range of mixing actions at the start, then settles down to quiet stirring towards the end - and when it finishes - hot milk and heaps of lovely foam. If you want No Froth, you use the same mixing disc (other machines need the solid disc). The mixing noises are different, and the end result is hot milk with no foam at all. So, without foam, you could probably heat more milk at once (just watch out how high the milk goes up the side during the slower stirring). So, at this point, I love it. Hopefully it will still be going strong for a few years.

Update 17 December 2025. The frother is still going strong (touch wood) and not one failed frothing of milk. Re the touch button. It wasn't long before the touch button worked for every press. It's almost like it has now recognised my finger and is happy to get to work immediately. Re the stirrer disc. When you put it back on the spindle after cleaning, give a firm push downwards as it can sit up on the spindle and look okay, but come off when in use. The disc has never come off after making sure it is pushed all the way down. It feels like a detent as you push down. No other issues to report. Still very happy with it. I always pour in the maximum amount of milk according to the line inside, and leave the lid off to stop any overflow due to froth touching the lid.

none in stock so I looked around for another with a stainless steel jug with no coating (my big priority). Found this brand which I had never heard of but thought I would take a gamble. Had it about 3 months now and so far so good. Makes the milk a lot hotter than the Lavazza did. I had not realised that it was only lukewarm until I purchased this new one. The base of the machine (where the jug slots into) can be a little difficult to keep clean as you are not supposed to use anything but a damp sponge. It is a bigger jug so you can serve several people but it is small enough to just froth milk for one - bearing in mind I do like a fair amount of milk! I use full cream organic milk and it froths really well. I accidentally purchased a lower fat milk and it did not froth as well, but I think that is fairly common with milk frothers. So far, so good. I use it 2 -3 times daily and it is going brilliantly.

jug is clear sturdy plastic with a max of 230ml for hot and 250ml for cold. The cold function allows you to make milkshakes, although I haven't tried this function. Two different heat buttons. One is very hot the other is hot. I have found that it froths better with the very hot button and it's not so hot that it burns your tongue. The best part is it's very easy to clean. The jug is dishwasher safe. I just rinse it under the tap after use and it doesn't leave burnt milk at the bottom. It makes enough milk for 2 cups.

I have had the Caffitaly milk Frother and it was practically useless. I found it didn't froth at all. I have the Aldi frother which is fantastic at frothing milk but will only do 1 cup at a time and leaves burnt milk at bottom and also a pain to clean.

The Adesso frother doesn't produce as much froth as the Aldi brand but its plenty enough for my coffees. I was going to buy the Breville frother but was hesitant because of the price and I'm so glad I went with adesso. Purchased for $49.00 at espress group in Thomastown.

my research and decided to buy a whipper for this purpose. I had been using an old hand held mixer that I had. Decided to buy the Avanti Little Whipper Milk Frother With Stand. I am just so so pleased that I did as my first cuppa of flat white was just so so perfect. Thank you Avanti. And I recommend this item for the kitchen. Perfect gadget. Des not take up too much space and gives me a perfect froth.

My experience with this Avanti Little Whipper to date. Well it's been almost 6 weeks and my whipper still works giving me lovely ftothy milk to my coffees and in addition I've also tried making hot chocolate. Wow! Absolutely delicious.

The StandStability is working fine for me. After i use the whipper I place it top down into warm water. This way the cleaning is much less arduous. I'm also pretty carefull with the whpping end. Soaking helps stop millk pieces hardening on it. So cleaning is much easier. My battery life has been good. So far its been close to a total of 3-4 hrs use and its still good. As for the stand stability, well, i take it off the stand, whip my warm milk, give it a rinse and hand it to drip dry. I am so very pleased i bought this. Hope this helps anyone else looking for a mini whipper.

Large enough 2.5 LTRS

- Matching colour to coffee machine

- Lights to let you know how full it is

- Alarm when Machine is empty

- Easy enough to clean

Cons

- Expensive $550 where I bought it from, although pricing varies slightly depending on where you buy it.

- Lackluster warranty! 12 months on a $500+ item? Rubbish!

- Doesn't come with the wifi/Bluetooth chip to communicate with the machine

- No stainless steel milk line, again, it should come with it at this price point.

- Not value for money

- Does NOT AUTO RESTART AFTER POWER OUTAGE.

Up until tonight this machine had proven it's worth, to me, at least... When my partner bought his Jura S8 as a tax return present to himself last month I decided I'd buy the matching fridge for convenience. All went well, minus the price shock and the apparent lack of value, but we got a really good deal on the coffee machine and I bought it from a smaller retailer so I accepted it.

Firstly it's easy enough to put together and set up. You can lock the top with the included key to stop contamination, it has lights too! Four in total, to tell you how full it is, and an irritating beep when it gets low. I feel the scale built in that measures how full the machine is, is actually not calibrated correctly. As twice it's told me it's empty when there's about 1/8 left in there. I feel like at the price they could have included the Bluetooth chip that communicates to the coffee machine, or even app integration where you could put in the milks expiration date, just something extra to make you feel like your money is going somewhere.

The milks usually around the 5 degree mark, although it is auto set to 4 it doesn't achieve this until it gets down under half. Despite all of the issues I do still like it, but the one thing I cannot forgive or get past, is the fact that when the power is cut out it doesn't come back in automatically! Last night we had a unseasonable storm and the power was knocked out, brief as it was however it was enough that the Jura fridge decided it was not going to turn back on! I went to make a cappuccino just now and the milk is off. Not impressed! My fridge and freezer don't just shut off and not come back on, so I do absolutely expect better.

The "dense hot milk foam" setting gives egg white solid topping inches thick, but the "airy hot froth" barely foams at all and leaves most of the milk thin and untouched in texture. Overflows very easily. Not nearly as good as the 10 year old version it replaced.

Someone pouring frothed milk into a cup of coffee and making latte art.

What is a milk frother?

A milk frother is a device that aerates milk, turning it into a thick foam that can then be used to make milky drinks like cappucinos and lattés. Some coffee machines have milk frothers built into them, however you can also buy a standalone milk frother.

In addition to making coffees like cappuccinos, lattés, flat whites, and macchiatos, you can also use the frothed milk to make other drinks like hot chocolate, matcha lattes, and even milkshakes.

Is it worth getting a milk frother?

If you drink your coffee with milk, or even enjoy drinks that call for foamy milk, then it may be worth getting a milk frother. We’ve listed some of the benefits and disadvantages of milk frothers below, so you can decide for yourself.

Pros
Milk frothers let you make a variety of drinks that call for foamy milk.
Electric models are easy to use.
They let you get creative with your drinks, letting you make coffee art.
Cheaper alternative to getting frothed milk than buying a coffee machine with a milk frother.
Cons
Some models can be expensive.
They can take up considerable benchtop and storage space, particularly considering they’re a machine with a single purpose.

Types of milk frothers

Milk frothers can be either manual or electric. While electric milk frothers just require the push of a button or two to froth the milk, manual milk frothers require a bit of elbow grease, as you have to repeatedly plunge the milk for about 30 seconds (depending on the level of froth you like).

Here are the most common types of milk frothers:

  • Handheld milk frothers are small, portable, and typically battery-powered wands that have vibrating coils that whisk milk. These frothers don’t heat the milk.
  • Countertop milk frothers use a motorised whisk in the jug to create foam, and usually also have an induction coil that heats the milk too.
  • Stovetop milk frothers are placed on a hob to heat the milk and also use a plunger which you use to manually make the foam. If you choose a stovetop frother, ensure it’s compatible with your cooktop; many should be compatible with gas, electric, and ceramic stovetops.
A handheld milk frother.
The handheld Sedhoom Electric Milk Frother.
A benchtop milk frother.
The Breville Milk Cafe benchtop milk frother.

How to choose a milk frother

Here are some factors you should consider before settling on a milk frother.

Functions

Not all milk frothers are made equal - different models will be able to do different things, so keep the following in mind to find a frother that does exactly what you need it to.

  • Some frothers have a temperature control dial, with some even having a guide that tells you what the optimal milk temperature for your milk type and beverage is.
  • Many milk frothers have different froth settings, letting you choose from options like a dense foam, airy foam, and cold froth.
  • Some frothers can temper cold milk as well, so you can make cold drinks like iced coffees and frappés.

Capacity

The capacity of your milk frother will determine how much milk you can froth or heat at a time. Usually the frothing capacity will be lower than the heating capacity. For example, a milk frother may be able to froth up to 250ml of milk (enough for around 2 standard coffees) and heat up to 500ml of milk.

Size

Consider the size of a milk frother and how much storage or benchtop space you have. It’s important to check the dimensions to see whether a machine will fit in your kitchen. Handheld models are smaller and easier to store than countertop and stovetop models.

Ease of use

Milk frothers aren’t usually particularly complicated devices to use, however it can still be handy to look for features that make them easy to use.

Some features to look for include:

  • An ergonomic jug handle makes the milk easier to pour, also helping you perfect your latté art.
  • A heat-resistant handle also keeps your fingers safe from getting burnt.
  • Backlit buttons can help make the buttons easier to see - which is especially useful for those who are particularly bleary-eyed before they’ve gotten their caffeine fix.
  • An easy pour spout on the frothing jug is designed to allow for a slow and steady pour.

Materials

Milk frothers tend to be made of stainless steel or plastic; stainless steel usually lasts longer than plastic, letting your milk frother withstand regular use without degrading quickly. It’s also common to find stainless steel frothers with some plastic components.

Features

Look for the following features that can make your frother easier and safer to use.

  • Anti-slip base: This offers optimum grip so the machine doesn’t slide around on your countertop.
  • Automatic shut-off: Some machines automatically turn off once you’re finished frothing.
  • Measuring cap: This lets you measure and add ingredients, like hot chocolate and chai mix, to your frothed milk.
  • Overheat protection: This shuts the frother off if it senses that it’s overheating.

Cleaning and maintenance

Cleaning crusty milk can be difficult, so consider getting an easy-to-clean model. A milk frother with dishwasher-safe parts will be simpler to keep clean. If the one you’re looking to buy isn’t dishwasher-safe, then check that the different components come apart easily so you can hand wash it without much fuss.

Milk compatibility

You should check that the milk frother you want to buy is compatible with the type of milk you’ll be using. Most milk frothers should be compatible with full cream milk, however not all of them are designed to be used with non-dairy milks. If you prefer soy, oat, or nut milk, or even low-fat or skim dairy milk, then you should find a frother that can cater to this.

Price

A milk frother can cost anywhere from $30 to $250 and over. Handheld frothers are typically the cheapest milk frothers you can find, while higher priced frothers will usually be benchtop models with a host of features.

Also look for a decent warranty. Most milk frothers from reputable brands will have at least a 1-year warranty.
