Honda BF60 getting water into the engine – I bought a Honda BF60 brand new because of Honda's reputation and have had it serviced at the same dealer 100km from my house since new. I had a… Read more
blown fuse in the engine in its first 12 months of owning it and a split fuel line in the forth year which my mechanic said was a fault and it was replaced under warranty, these were the only times I have been stranded which is not great but I still had faith that the trusty Honda wouldn't let me down. Prior to taking my boat for its service this year I checked the oil was ok (bit dirty) and just took off oil cap and noticed some white / brown paste inside oil cap. When I arrived at my service my boat mechanic pulled a pipe off the back of the engine and saw some white/brown paste in the tube and said this engine is stuffed and that Honda have had this problem on several engines where water or moisture is getting into the system and he would do whats required to fix the engine under warranty as he has with previous clients out of warranty. My boat is outside warranty and Honda don't want a bar of it. I would think that a Honda engine serviced for its whole life would have a design life longer than 9 years. Apart from the two issues above the engine has never missed a beat. I am looking to upgrade to a new boat and engine and after Honda have flat out refused to assist in the repair, I would not buy another Honda engine. I have mates that have Yamaha's & Suzuki's that are the same age and older and have not had any issues at all.

line that comes out beside the water output line. This caused overflow gas to flow into the crankcase making the oil level high. Easy fix, with a call to my local Honda dealer, with about 10 minutes of my time. Highly recommended because it is light, powerful and so quiet that I fish most of the time with it running.

smoothly with no plug fouling issue. Using 80:1 semi synthetic oil. Will be switching over to AMSOIL Saber synthetic from next tank fill, still at 80:1 though. I also use 'Fuel set' by Liquid Engineering in WA. This keeps moisture and waxing contaminants at bay in your tank. Never had a fuel issue in 30 years of using this product in petrol and diesal engines. We also go up to the Gulf fishing, 70 to 90km trips daily.

Between 600-900 rpm. Still got two options if you want to remote steer the motor or tiller steer. I go with tiller steer though. To me it feels rustic and old school that way. Aesthetically for the f40, it look nice and sleek than their first 40hp model

the shape at the back of the lower end of the motor. Anyway because it's so long and sharp pointed had to cut a deeper V to be able to get it pushed forward far far enough to safely mount the rear holes. As it comes out of the package the holes would have literally been right on the edge edge of the Anti-ventilation plate. (No the modification did not cause my problems.) Once it was installed it I was excited to get out and try itBut Winter hit. So I waited until springtime to get out and try it. ( Needless to say I couldn't return it) So the actual problem was when you hit higher RPM all of a sudden the boat would list Dangerously to the starboard side. It would literally put the gunnel right down almost at water level. Contacted the manufacturer and received absolutely no response. So, I contacted several reputable boat shops and all of them said they are kind of more or less just a marketing ploy. Several of them said they've had people with the same exact problem. So I've taken it off and everything is back to normal & boat works perfectly fine without it. This being said I would not recommend the product to anyone.
Honda BF25
Love this motor – Starts easy , even when I leave it sitting for 6mths. Puts my 4.3mtr Alloy boat up on a plane with two Large Adults in seconds. Quiet enough to enjoy a conversation , and drives for hrs on very little fuel .. would buy again in a heartbeat.

motor around. I will give it it one thing and that is that it had exceptional fuel economy. But seriously it's like having a lawnmower strapped to the back of your boat... I couldn't handle it. On a more entertaining note our house was broken into and the outboard was stolen. I was not upset to see it go, in fact I was laughing for days about the fact that the thieves car would be full of oil HAHAHA! used insurance money toward Parsun 5.8hp, and I love it.

the time was the same as the German competitor and it appears just as well made. Battery life is very usable unless full power is used which is mostly pointless as the difference between 25% power setting and 100% power setting is a whole 2 mph. Endurance at 25% is around 6 hours and rises with less power being used. These motors are all torque to drive a hull but not fast compared to an I.C.E. My application is a 4.65mt Canadian canoe with a flat transom. Comfortably carries three adults at 4 mph on 25% power setting. On the positive side it is very quiet with just a dull whine. Maintenance is minimal compared to an I.C.E. The composite propellor is remarkably tough coupled with an auto stop if something solid is encountered. A useful feature. The addition of a shallow water setting on the motor angle bracket would improve it. The only negative is the price compared to a combustion engine however I have been delighted with it regardless of that.

yamaha 150 4-stroke has major issues – Yamaha outboards were the best outboard offered years ago but this no longer applies. I have owned 6 yamahas and make my living running them.… Read more
Corrosion in the exhaust is causing holes to develop in the block which leads to engine failure. Also the harmonic balancers have a nylon gear which is causing more engine failures. Also have a major issue with the bushing on the driveshaft. This causes your motor to vibrate, shimmy and make awful noises. Times have changed this is no longer the premier motor of yesterday year. Do yourself a favor and look at some other brands. Oh by the way you can always contact Yamaha directly because their customer service is absolutely the worst. They are a big corporation and they give you the impression they could care less. By the way without a doubt they will tell you the problems are your fault.

valve. I bought this outboard second hand but it had done NO work as it was an auxiliary on a large boat. It was stamped 2017 manufacturing date. Lucky if I got 5 hours before it failed with stuck valve problem. Extensive damage to engine. Service agent was initially reluctant to acknowledge the 5 year warranty as I'd bought secondhand. Suzuki Marine Australia eventually agreed to repair under warranty when told the owner was aware it had a manufacturing defect. Looks like it could be a good outboard but its reputation is sullied by this fault that doesn't seem to have an easy fix.

factory faults, that although the repair is under warranty, the waiting time for parts means that I have been without my boat for 5 weeks now. Honda not satisfied with keeping me waiting for 5 weeks, for what should have been a routine first annual service, also want me to wait a further 12 months for a miserly £100 dealer credit, off my NEXT service.
