I am having trouble working out how to separate the light diffuser from the frame the square one 300X300 and take off the ceiling to repair because filcking light, intermittently flashing.

Do the round ones need a hole cut in the roof, or are all easily mounted on top of the plaster? I am having a bit of trouble working out how to separate the light diffuser from the frame. Worked fine with the square one but having trouble with the round one.

My EZSL25R ezylite skylight works fine but turns off about an hour after dark. Is this normal?

Hi there We’ve bought an ezylite roof window but need to change the original handle to the longer one supplied? How do we do this?

I had solar skylight installed about 2 months ago, was working fine but now nothing. Wondering how to fix or reason why it has stopped working. Thanks

Have the installer check the connections inside the blackbox behind the lightpanel. A quick check is to give the box a jiggle or sharp rap. The light panel _might_ come on. Which would indicate a dry or broken solder joint someplace. Of course check the connection to the solar panel.

We have 2 of the cheaper EZlite units and while I consider their quirks charming ... others may not.

The issue is either bad solder connection on the capacitors inside the black box OR the control card. (also inside the same box)

You might consider contacting the manufacturer as I am reasonably sure this would be covered by warranty. Other people here have reported that they are helpful and prompt.

Just installed EZSL25R $209. So disappointing that it won’t work at all. My partner has installed Ilume skylights before and no problem. He’s checked all connections but nothing! We got this one just for a hallway and seems a waste of money.

Open the black box and check all those (capacitor) connections. I had to resolder a few on one of mine. The soldering quality is terrible the components themsleves seem to be resonable quality... Worked for me (twice).

Otherwise contact the manufacturer apparently they are actually helpful.

This is not so much a question as an observation. Many of the flickering , or fail to illuminate issues *may* be caused by the poor soldering quality on the battery connections.

Some models , well my EZSL4545 at least, has a simple regulator box. This"black box" is populated with a small driver/regulator card. (the only electronics) and 8 (number will probably vary) square battery cells. (These may be some sort of Lithium-Ion species... thats not the issue here)

The connection to the card are fine , as is the card itself. The controller looks like a off the shelf product and made well enough.

However the batteries are connected in series and have terrible quality soldering.

In my case I noticed intermittency (the light flicked on bumps) as I took the thing out of the box ! So I flipped the "looks like a bad connection someplace" mental switch, opened the box and yep one battery had barely been soldered, the rest looked a little dry ...

A simple task to re-solder the loose leads following the same pattern as the rest. I also touched up one or two more obvious candidates.

DO NOTE the way the things are installed in the box :) It took me longer to get that right than to fix the thing.

The rest of the install was reasonably straight forward. So far it works fine.

There are *fine examples of price minimisation* all over this product, However it does work well so far and there is little danger of it exceeding any SWL :)

The batteries may be super capacitors ? I did not bother to check as this was moot at the time. The per cell voltages were 4.75 (ish) and rather neatly divided into the solar array output.

MY ezylite alternative skylight flickers and goes off during the day. What would the problem be and can it be rectified

Rodney Parker
Rodney Parker

Probably bad connections or faulty driver, they are cheap and nasty in my opinion, if its under warranty take it back, I didn't bother replacing/repairing my second faulty one in a row, I just got a refund from Bunnings and bought Redilite ones, huge improvement.

Mine works fine in the day but flickers like a strobe light ALL night

Megan D.

Same as ours. We installed about a month ago and it was working great... I reccomended to all our friends and family. Now its literally flashing on and off all night overnight. I got on a stool 2 nights ago to unplug and it continued to flash til 5am unplugged, face down in another room. Very dissapointed. I cant seem to find a contact email for company either?

Check out my post where I describe replacing the panel to box connector. Mine occasionally flashed too but it is been fine since.

Do you have the new model with the black box connected. I contacted the factory and they told me faulty soldering was causing the issue. My new second one started flashing the first week I got it, but has now stopped and is working fine. Warranty is 2 years. For me they offered to post out just the light for free as only new.

Had 2 installed 6 months ago. Both have stopped working. How am I supposed to get a refund when they are installed in my roof?

Jezz
Jezz

If you can find my original answer on here its explained in detail but essentially the connector/adapter wrapped in yellow shrink-wrap and plugged in-line from the solar panel to the light fitting failed and I bought a replacement one from Jaycar for a couple of dollars. All done without removing anything else. The manufacturer appears to have had a run of these failing connector/adaptors.

Tilly
Tilly

Hi Fiona, The outer frame is screwed to the roof. You will see a small gap where the inner frame sits. Use a thin bladed knife and insert in a corner and lever the inner section out, its held by 4 clips one on each side. The light will just have one cable attached which pull apart. The new model has two cables, one attached to a black box. The light has a 2 year warranty. If covered it would be a good idea to ring ezylight as they may just send the light section out without returning the whole unit. I left the frame attached to the ceiling along with the solar panel and kept the new ones as spares. Dave

My Ezylite has stopped working just started flickering today. Its 2 years old. Any suggestions?

Rod
Rod

One of Two things either the panel or the light , in my case I took a voltage reading at the light connection & it was showing 12v / 0.45 amps which is 5 watts so I assume the light was gone I have recently bought another light online..on closer inspection the LED lights ,one small strip of about 20 either side where not as bright as new & a few ,both sides had stopped working try replacing with another 12v DC light / globe mine was a 5watt good luck

Bryan
Bryan

Hello Tilly, Rod's answer above seems to analyse the situation. My own panels have now been installed for about four months and have also developed a noticeable flicker when the light levels outside are getting low, ie towards dusk. For the rest of the time they give out excellent light. I'll live with that.

Rang the company and they sent me 2 new power boxes and also LEDS. Worked well for 3 weeks. I now have a disco happening each night, from sunset to dawn. My builder feels terrible for reccomending. Now to contact the company, yet again :-(

My 300×300 is flickering at night it has been working perfectly for well over a week now any suggestions?

Rod

considering ( if we are talking about the same type ) its Solar & your question states at Night ! NO SUN would be the problem

Bryan
Bryan

Hello Aaron, the answer ,above, from Rod would seem to be logical. I'm no electronic expert, but it would appear that electrical energy has been stored somewhere in the circuitry and is being discharged through the LEDs in the panel. I suggest that you contact the manufacturer to get a more technical answer. They may not be aware of this.

Aaron Jordan
Aaron Jordan

Well considering its night and the product is flickering would indicate a fault to me would it not..... so yes it flickering at night is the issue I'm looking for a response on how I can fix it....

Huzza1
Huzza1

If you mean it comes on a couple of times at night then I have the same issue (now have 3 installed and all do this) Can only assume there is a bit of energy stored somewhere and turns them on for about a minute a couple of times then they go off. Have no problem with any flickering tho.

I have recently installed 2 skylights in my loungeroom. During the day they run perfectly. I have returned 2 skylights so far and this is the 3rd skylight that has started flickering at night. I'll see how this goes tomorrow and would like to find someway to fix this.

Charisse
Charisse

Aaron Jordan - did you find an answer to this? I installed one about a month ago and it worked fine until two nights ago when it started flickering/flashing. It turns into a strobe light at night - until sun up and then works as it should.

Aaron Jordan
Aaron Jordan

No i just removed all plugs cleaned them then let it die out over night it only did it for 2 nights and never again

Jane G.
Jane G.

We have 4 installed, and they all do the same. Come on at night for a minute then go off. Except for tonight, when we had a storm. They kept going on and off. After the storm passed they stopped. So I’m thinking it is a build op of static electricity.

Ezy sola skylight has stopped lighting up during the day what can I do to fix the problem as it has worked for the last 12 months?

Susie Ball
Susie Ball

Hi,

I have installed a 300x 300 Ezylight, two days ago by following all the instructions - how long does it take to illuminate? Its flickers occasionally but that is it. Does the solar panel need to charge over a certain period of time?

Huzza1
Huzza1

As long as is daylight it should light up immediately you plug the panel into the light. There is no charge up time required. Couple of weeks ago I installed 2 more units and one did not work so after phoning manufacturer found that adapter on wrong lead so changed over and worked perfectly. If not working suggest you phone manufacturer

Do ezylite skylights come with a dimmer?

Huzza1
Huzza1

No does not come with a dimmer. Have now had our skylight installed for 6 months and has never been a problem with excessive light into our internal kitchen. I am convinced other benefits of these units over traditional skylights is no insects getting into it and no heat generated during very hot days. I am now considering installing another 2 small units into our long hall way as very pleased with results.

It says in the instructions to separate the light diffuser from the frame, I might seem dumb, but how do you do this?

Irene S

We are having issues working out how to instal the diffuser to the frame? Can anyone advise?

Huzza1
Huzza1

You need to fit the frame to the ceiling first using the fasteners supplied. Then drill a small hole in ceiling and pass the lead on diffuser through and connect to lead coming from solar panel. Then press the diffuser up into the frame and should now have it working.

I am just wondering if it lets a lot of heat in? The reason I want it is because I close all the doors at one end of the house to keep the heat out and this causes the hallway to be dark all the time.

iandejonge
iandejonge

No heat comes in at all as the Ezylite is an LED panel [ cold light] powered by the small solar panel on the roof. I have had mine in the hallway for over a year and no heat comes in. Before the Ezilite, I had a solar light which let quite a bit of heat into the hallway.

Huzza1
Huzza1

I totally agree with the comments of landejonge. No heat at all is generated by the Ezylite and this is one of the reasons we opted for this rather than a standard sky light.

Rudolph Fuentez

I am considering installing one of these units in my kitchen. Since the house has an open plan, does the sky light have an on/off switch so that I can turn the light OFF during the evening hours when I don't light from the kitchen to spill over into the rest of the area around it?

iandejonge
iandejonge

No, the skylight doesn't have an on-off switch. Because it is powered by the small rooftop solar panel, it will get dimmer as dusk approaches and will be dark during the night. Hope this helps.
