Does flip nbn allow wifi phone calling?

Flip
Flip   DM

Hi Lew, Thank you for reaching out. Yes, Wi-Fi calling is supported with Flip's mobile SIM cards. As long as your handset supports Wi-Fi calling and the feature is enabled, you’ll be able to make and receive calls over a Wi-Fi connection when mobile coverage is limited or unavailable. If you need any help setting it up, feel free to reply to this thread or give us a call on 1300 354 788 — we’re happy to assist. Regards, Flip!

Does flip nbn allow wifi phone calling?

As far as I am aware they have VOIP (phone calls) as part of the service. I don’t use this part of the ISP offerings, so just use my mobile phone.

Thank you!

Lindy
Lindy

Thank for your interest in my question. It is a tp-link AX5400 Wi-Fi 6 Modem Router with VoIP. Model: VX420-G2v Power: 12V - 2A. It them says the Password/PIN and also MAC: 6C-5A-B0-99-F1-E6 and S/N: 32190P6004367 Ver:1.0 I appreciate your help. Thank you

Hello Lindy, I asked our Technical Team regarding your modem and I was informed that this will work as long as your address is not on Fibre to the Node. If you want, you can provide your address so we can look it up on our system for eligibility. Thank you!

Lindy
Lindy

That is great. My address is 20 Viret St Hunters Hill NSW 2110. I am very impressed with your helpful replies. Thank you for going to this trouble for me.

Flip
Flip   DM

Hello Lindy, I have reviewed your address, and it appears that you are connected to Fibre to the Node with Service Class 13. Unfortunately, your current modem is not compatible with this NBN service type.

You have the option to purchase a modem from a store. While most modems will work for general internet use, please be aware that not all are compatible with NBN Phone (VOIP) services. It is essential to select a modem-router that is VDSL2 compatible.

Alternatively, we offer a pre-configured modem that is ready for immediate use, providing a plug-and-play experience. This modem is available to our customers at a discounted price of $219, which also includes the shipping fee. This is significantly lower than its retail price of $349.

If you require any further assistance, please don't hesitate to reach out. I am happy to help.

Lindy
Lindy

Thank you for your reply. I am a little confused as the the modem is currently in service and working just fine with our TPG NBN. I have no doubt that you are correct when you say we have Fibre to the Node with Service Class 13. I don't know, but the NBN cables do run along the street outside our house. We did try wireless to the node at one stage but didn't like it. It sounds like we would need to buy a new modem to use FLIP though. I guess I will investigate further and may get back to Flip to take up the Modem and Flip service . You have been very helpful. Many thanks.

Just by the way we do not use telephone through the modem. it is only used for internet. Does this make a difference?

Hi Lindy, Apologies, I have checked it with our level 2 specialist just to make sure and confirmed that your modem will work with Flip.

Slow internet and no landline service since the first week of January 2025. I've been given the constant run around by a number of their operators and have lost count with the number of times I've been told to turn off/turn on the modem/router/NBN box and I'm absolutely fed up with this so called internet provider company. I've given them till the end of this working week before I lodge a complaint with VCAT. I cannot recommend this company at all and I should have stayed with TPG.

I'm sorry to hear that you have had a bad experience with Flip. In order to investigate your issues, can you please provide me with your account number?

James

No, can't call out from my landline handset. Surely Flip should provides me with a land line number via email so I can call out and receive. Before I sign on with Flipconnect on 12/04/24, I have no problem with my previous ISP since NBN rolled up. BTW can Flip provide a FREE line to call for this problem.

Flip give a one time password to sign in on to start. From there you set your own. If your password is not functioning try using a password reset by advising Flip you have forgotten your password. Otherwise speak to their technical staff

I would like to know, why I have made two Reviews giving my news about what I think of Flip. Yet not one of the two have not been placed in the review section of your FLIP Reviews. Is there something wrong. I wrote the two reveiws regarding FLIP, and both were showing the wonderful help, I received and how I found their Plan to very good, in fact the best I have ever had. What modem required - details please - does Flip provide modem?

Jennifer W.
Jennifer W. · Flip

do I need to inform my current provider that I am leaving?

dkrf
dkrf

Yes - but only so that they stop billing you - especially if you are on a monthly plan. However, your new provider will take all the necessary steps to transfer your account and details over to them. If you have VOIP - be sure to inform your new provider that you want your phone number transferred as part of the process. Otherwise you may end up with with a new landline number. Our transfer to Flip took about 48 - 72 hours hours (ie without internet).

Can I use a modem from Optus with Flip?

dkrf

For internet yes you should be able to. Ours TP-Link modem from TPG worked perfectly. But you do need to change SSID and password. BUT if you want VOIP - then probably not.

Is the flip modem locked to your company or can't be used elsewhere

Thanks in advance Peter

Graham

The connection is HFC, therefore the modem is NBN supplied and linked, and ‘locking’ to Flip does not apply.
