Hello, I was considering joining HCF but after reading your reviews i think I wont bother. thanks for the reviews. Which health fund would you recommend? (I'm in Qld)

Che Serna

I really can't say at this point, I am also in QLD. I joined AIA based on a product review here. but I have to sort out some issues with them first to answer your question correctly. I honestly don't know because I was with HCF for a very long time. The service level at AIA seems good, but the results of waiting periods I cannot say as it is still unresolved. Like HCF whose service and facilities were ONCE good, they became greedy and got worse and worse. That is the whole issue here Corporate Greed. However, I never believed HCF was a none profit organisation that is just Bullturd.

Thanks for answering. They all seem much of a muchness and I agree, non for profit appears to be a bit of spin these days.

'Non-profit' means that the actual profits go into formal salaries for the executives so that they can claim they are non-profit. Try establishing what the salary of the chief executive is. Ain't available.

Does HCF cover breast implant removal and replacememt if previous ones are ruptured or damaged?

Heather

I have spoken to two of your representatives in the past two weeks. I have had 2 visits to the dentist in the past 18 months. Usually I claim through HiCaps and am reimbursed immediately. Well that didn’t happen so I am hundreds of dollars out of pocket and am still waiting for reimbursement for well over a month now. My direct debit still works as you are taking my monthly payments. I would like to know when reimbursement will take place....

Go back to your dentist or check if they tried to claim. If not paid ask why. Once you have all the info, make sure you have the facts and figures and then approach HCF. Just be aware that it could take hours or a couple of days to get through and you may not get answers. I went to the complaints dept, sent a message via messenger to get results good luck you will need time and patience, both of mine ran out eventually, I’ve transferred to another fund, too many hassles with customer service and claims process.

If i have Top Cover and am having a breast lift what is covered by HCF?

Alan

I am looking to change to HCF but am puzzled by all the bad reviews,is it really as bad as people say.

We are just so happy with HCF. We have mid hospital cover with silver extras and they covered all hospitalisation, pathology, and specialist & theatre fees. We are on the middle cover so there is a gap when buying glasses if needing more than 1 pair but fully covered if buying just one. No complaints at all and SO much better than Medibank -really ripped off with Medibank and HCF is cheaper for the same cover.

Thank you so much, sounds like a good deal.Cheers.

We have been with HCF for some time, over ten years (with a small break with MBF). We have always found them to be pretty good actually. They offered good value, typically. However, we are leaving HCF shortly and will be writing a two or three star review. Their IT system is broken, and they are now not paying out claims. I assume this is because of some major IT crash, and they are struggling to overcome this problem. Likewise, as you have read, you can't contact them easily. So, I think they were OK, even good, but something has happened, and now there are better funds. I wouldn't join them currently.

I have extra cover at diamond level. Can you tell me whether I can claim some benefits against purchasing CPAP accessory which is the Airfit N20 cushion. This is a part connecting the facemask. It's only the cushion that is broken and needs replacement. If I can claim for part of the cushion cost, I don't need to replace the whole mask. Thank you.

Hi Thank you for your message. As part of “HCF Thank You” program, we allocated a membership tier which was based on the length of membership with us. In that regards “Diamond” tier, this was allocated to the members who have been with HCF for 25 years of more, as a recognition of their loyalty. In order to assist you with your enquiry on benefits available for a “CPAP” accessory, we need to access your membership and check it against your selected level of extras cover. Please call us on 13 13 34 and our Member Care team staff member will be able to confirm your benefit entitlements. Regards HCF Team

HCF removed a member from our card and cancelled the card without informing us or issuing another card! I find out when trying to pay a medical practitioner and ending up red-faced! After calling the customer care number many times over that and the next couple of days, choosing the correct options, the phone then rings one time and cuts you off. Tried other options- same thing. So I called my local branch. First time, the phone rang out. Another day of trying and eventually at about 4:10pm, I got through to a woman who sounded like she was in a shop (perhaps working somewhere else due to the coronavirus), who told me she would attend to my query the following day during work hours. The hours listed are till 5pm. My husband was called and only then told the reason for the cancellation and that the new cards are ordered. A week passed and I called again only to be met with a woman who wasn't helpful, made me feel like this was my fault, but eventually told me that she would order the cards and to wait 7-10 days. I've done that and so far, still no sign of cards. I see the medical practitioner tomorrow for the 4th or 5th time since this started and still cannot produce an HCF card. This is not acceptable client service. I shouldn't have to be writing a review here to get any kind of action on HCF's part, assuming that I will get the response others have received but I would like this sorted out asap. Thank you.

Hi Dee We are sorry to hear about your experience. Would you please send us your membership details by email to social@hcf.com.au and mention product review in the subject of the email, so that we can look into your concerns further and provide you with an outcome. Regards HCF Team

Hi

We are looking to change health providers but the 113 very poor reviews are very disturbing for HCF. Can a rep explain why so many people are in dismay and frustration over your fund ? Looking very doubtful we would consider HCF.

Mickey. The reviews tell the real story of Poor Service. How much more do you need? Edward

Yes very true. Pity honesty and morals don’t form part of the business case for insurance companies in general.

Is GP regular doctors' visits covered in "Short Stay " overseas visitors health cover? The website only stated the following: "Depending on the level of cover you choose, you can be covered for up to 100% of the cost of seeing a GP from our GP network. "

HCF
HCF   DM

Hi Guini That is correct, GP Consultations are covered under the “Short Stay” Overseas Visitors Cover. You are covered for doctors’ services for items listed on the Australian Government Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) and where the service would be eligible for an MBS benefit if provided to an Australian resident:

For regular doctor visits, you will be covered with nothing to pay when you see a doctor through our network.

external link

Our Overseas Visitors Helpline is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week on 13 68 42 (13 OVHC), option 2.

You can call the helpline to ask health questions* or to access providers and services through the HCF network, including:

• regular doctors (GPs) • after-hours GPs • emergency departments • specialist doctors • private hospitals. • nurse triage

Hope this helps. Regards HCF Team

I just want to know if I am eligible form a claim on my insurance. I had a skin cancer removed a few weeks ago. The bill from the medical centre is $578.00. I realise I will be refunded by medicare for some of the amount. Will HCF provide further funding for this? My member number is 95484434.

HCF
HCF   DM

Hi Bernard We hope you are recovering well after your procedure. Private health insurance policies cover some or all the costs of being a private patient in either a Public or Private Hospital for in-hospital (from when you’re officially admitted to hospital to when you’re officially discharged) treatment costs such as accommodation, operating theatre and other associated costs.

If the consultations is deemed to be a outpatient service then health funds are not allowed to pay a benefit, this can only be claimed from Medicare.

We are more than happy to look into this further for you, if you could email us at customersupport@hcf.com.au.

Please include your membership number and mention “product review” in the subject of the email and also do let us know whether you were officially admitted to a hospital as an inpatient.

Alternatively you can call us on 13 13 34 and our Hospital Information Line staff will be glad to assist you.

Regards

HCF Team

Do HCF cover anything towards veneers?

Frank
Frank

It's not an easy answer, ask your dentist to provide all the item codes, then send it to HCF, to verify and confirm what is covered, then circle back to your dentist, give them the approved items codes, then your dentist will provide you with the out of pocket expenses. Which will leave you wondering if it's even worth having a Pvt health insurance and the amount you pay every month!!!!. good luck.

Montechel
Montechel

Thanks Frank I certainly could not find an answer in HCFs website.
