I have just had to postpone my trip to Thailand on the 5th of September due to an illness and will be required to remain in Australia for treatment. After the treatment and if it's successful I intend to make the same trip then. Will Medibank give me a credit for the trip that I have just cancelled with Singapore Airlines and Flight Centre and be able to rebook in the near future?
Hello William, Thank you for your review. We have sent you a private message in order to assist you further. If there is anything else that we may help you with please do not hesitate to ask. -Dan
What 'Medical Only' Insurance fully covers repatriation to Australia in case of illness or death while overseas or on a cruise?
I would not recommend Medibank. You are left waiting on the line with recorded "Your call is important etc ...." blaming Covid. Our trip was only in Qld. (and we lived in Qld.) I was medivacced out but I couldn't even get them on the phone to help get my husband home and it's taken them over 7 months - and I'm still waiting on settlement
Hi there, thank you for reaching out to us and for your question. I’ve sent you a private message so we can discuss your options regarding the repatriation coverage. – Grace
Could you please advise if you cover for travel agent going insolvent
Hi Nana,
If you could please contact our team via the options at external link they will be able to assist :)

Medibank Travel /Zurich rejects claim, Good to Go /AIG paid identical claim -covid 19 not regarded as a natural disaster Three of us travelled together and had to return to Australia early after our tour was cancelled as borders were closing due to covid 19. This involved purchasing emergency return airfares. One of us was insured with GoodToGo / AIG travel insurance, the other two were insured with Medibank travel insurance/Zurich. Claims were made to both insurance companies. Both claims were initially rejected because covid 19 is not regarded by them as a natural disaster. Medibank will only recognise geological and meteorological natural disasters not biological ones. AIG subsequently paid the claim under cancellation expenses. Medibank/ Zurich did not pay the claim. They would not recognise the return fares as either necessitated by the covid 19 natural disaster or as a cancellation expense. They say it is an additional expense not covered by the policy even though getting home was a critical part of our trip expenses. I argued that covid 19 is “Natural” and a “Disaster”. The Supreme Court of Pennsylvania in the USA agrees. (Some good arguments in the court ruling if you are in a similar position.) l have made a complaint to the Australian Financial Complaints Authority. I have insured with Medibank travel insurance before. This was the first trip where we needed insurance. Big let down. Next time we will try AIG. My Medibank medical insurance will also be reviewed.
Hi Gary, I’m very sorry to read that your claim was rejected.
I have just sent you a private message to grab your details and escalate your complaint.
Thanks, Jade
Following a submission to the Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA) which argued that covid 19 was a natural disaster, Medibank/ Zurich paid the claim for the emergency return airfare less the amount for the cancelled airfare which we hope to get refunded by Latam airlines. A fair outcome. The staff at medibank have always been easy to deal with. Interestingly our travelling companion made an addition claim on his AIG insurance which they paid out but took back the money they had initially paid for the return airfare by deducting it from his additional claim refund.
I purchased Medibank private Travel insurance in July 2019 for a trip to Hawaii planned in May 2020. Due to COVID-19, our flights have been cancelled and am not able to negotiate ANY refund from the owners of our STAYZ booked accommodation. I've only been given the $300 USD bond back from the $5500 AUD I originally paid. VERY disappointed with STAYZ cancellation policy. It's such a lot of money to lose :( Can I claim on my Medibank Travel Insurance for this cancellation? I agree with some other reviewers that the COVID-19 notice on their website would indicate that a claim could be lodged and approved. Does anyone know? Thank you :)
Hi Ibis, I'm very sorry about your experience and we'd love to see if we can help. I've just sent you a private message asking for a few more details. Thanks, Joshua
Thanks Joshua I have responded to your private message :)
Hi there, I have a comprehensive overseas travel policy. I was due to fly to the UK in early March but had to cancel due to illness. I have a doctor’s certificate to that effect. My problem is that I assume that I need to make sure that I do everything I can to mitigate the loss before I make a claim. I had a non refundable fare on Singapore airlines booked through Webjet. I understand that Singapore airlines will offer a flight credit to be used within 12 months of the date of the original booking which was May 2019. I also understand that this deadline may now have been extended - because this is all second hand information through Webjet and it’s very difficult to contact them by phone I haven’t been told this directly. Because of the Covid 19 situation it seems unlikely that overseas travel will be possible for the remainder of 2020 even if airlines survive, so I think I have lost my money practically speaking but I wanted to find out what your policy is in these circumstances. I have been on hold on your ‘contact’ line for 2 hours 15 minutes With no reply which is pretty shabby customer service. I would appreciate any help you can provide. Many thanks, Sue Carter
Hi Sue, I am sorry you’ve been waiting long to speak to our Travel Insurance team. I just sent you a private message to see if there is anything we can do to help. Thanks, Anna
we have travel booked for Europe & UK for june/july 2020. Government ‘do not travel’ is in place. Can I cancel my flights, hotels, trains, internal flights in Europe now and lodge a claim. I have international Comprehensive Plan. thank you
Rosalie, stay safe, stay well, where you have some control of your movements. Once you leave home while a”do not travel ‘ order exists you have no control if you will be allowed into your destination, out of it and could face difficulties on a return to AustralIa. Far too risky in my humble opinion.
Hi Rosalie, Thanks for submitting your question. I just sent you a private message asking for a few more details. Thanks, Anna
Can we claim on our medibank private travel insurance now that DAFT have advised all Australians not travel overseas?
You should ask Medibank Private directly although it was very difficult for me to get any sort of response from them. I will never use them again.
Put in your claim and then wait till they have a policy on this. I guess the big wigs have to make a decisions
Hi Sharon, Thanks for submitting your question. I just sent you a private message asking for a few more details. Thanks, Anna

Could you tell me if my policy which I took out is covered by cornovirus. I took it out in September last year
does medibank travel policy cover the costs involved if a country closes its boarder due to the corona virus ????
Hi Joanne, We’d like to look into that for you. I just sent you a private message asking a few more details. Thanks, Anna
Did you get covered.
I am considering changing to Medibank travel insurance and have a couple of existing medical issues. I have gone through the application process and have answered honestly and am happy with the addition cost. I have looked at some of the comments and wondered if there are issues when say being hospitalized overseas if you have declared pre existing condition's.
Polly, I have not been hospitalised overseas however I would expect Medibank travel insurance will cover your pre existing conditions. May I suggest you call Mredibank travel insurance and ask them the question, as they are most helpful, and can give you a positive answer. Cheers Alan
Thank you

The quote had gone up about 15% from the previous year I queried what i thought had been an excessive increase

I would love to help but I think this question is directed to Medibank, I do not have access to the policy nor could I offer advice on what to do with a particular claim. I will say I have now moved my health insurance away from Medibank and I have found I have better travel insrance cover free when I use my ANZ credit card to purchase major components of the trip. In fact ANZ cards paid my claim that Medibank denied in full without excess.
Hi Rolf, Thanks for reaching out with your assessment enquiry. We would definitely like to help investigate this further for you. Can you please send us a private message with your full name, date of birth, address and best contact number?
We look forward to hearing from you and further assisting with this matter.
Kindly,
Keara

Hi, my son has been in Europe studying in Germany and traveling throughout Europe this year. He has travel insurance with you guys which covers all of Europe, Asia and the Middle East until 20 December 2017. He is now going to do charity work in Uganda until mid December and I am wondering what I can do to include Uganda on his travel insurance. I would appreciate your advice on this. Many thanks Louise Marshall
Good morning Louise, it sounds like your son is having quite the trip! We’ll just need a little extra information to be able to help with your enquiry, you can contact our travel team either over the phone on 1300 362544 or via email at medibank@travelinsurancepartners.com.au where we’d be happy to help however we can. Kind Regards, Brett
Thanks Brett. Spoke to a very helpful guy at your emergency contact last night. I'll get onto this once your office opens at 10:00am today. Again, thank you for your reply! Louise :)
I have already purchased travel insurance from Medibank, however, I still have some concerns. Should the area I am travelling be deemed unsafe by DFAT will Medibank cover cancellation of tour, accommodation and flights or cover the cost of alternative tour/flight options? The fine print is very confusing and I would just like a simple answer.
It would not be covered if it becomes unsafe due to terrorism or any government action this is listed under Section 2: Cancellation and Amendment fees. Only time it may be covered is if it was deemed unsafe due to a natural disaster.
