I recently sustained windscreen damage from a rock impact while driving. Initially, it was a small crack, but it rapidly expanded to approximately 40 cm within seconds. NRMA has advised me to take my vehicle to a repairer, which is about 40 km from my location. However, I am concerned that the crack may worsen during the drive, potentially leading to the windscreen shattering.
I have documented the damage with photos and uploaded them under my NRMA claim.
My question is: Would it be permissible to apply a temporary DIY windscreen repair adhesive to prevent further damage and ensure safety before taking the vehicle to the repairer? Additionally, would using such a product impact my insurance claim? My primary concern is ensuring safety while driving to the repairer.
