Hi, I'm also looking to purchase underlay for installation under the 8mm (Quick-Step Impressive) laminate floor in a residential unit with 150mm concrete slab and no cavity with the ceiling system below. The underlay will need to comply with BCA sound insulation standard. Can you advise if the quiet step combo-lay underlay will be able to meet the BCA requirements? And are you able to advise how it performs compared to the alternative Regupol sonus core 5?
Hi, do you have the acoustic test report for 12mm laminate with quick step quiet step 2mm combo-lay on a 150mm concrete floor slab with no suspended ceiling? Thanks
Good afternoon Bill,
I can confirm that an email with the acoustic result was sent to you on 20-Oct-25.
Kind regards, The Team at Quick-Step Australia.
Hi Quick Step team, yes a report was provided for the 12mm laminate with 2mm quiet step combilay. However the report is based on a 180mm concrete floor slab wirh 200mm air cavity with 10mm gyprock ceiling. What I'm requesting is if you have report for the 12mm laminate with 2mm quiet step combilay but on a 150mm concrete slab with no ceiling cavity or gyprock ceiling layer. Something similar to the CSIRO 150mm bare concrete floor slab acoustic test report. Thanks
Good morning Bill,
This is the only time we have tested 12mm Quick-Step Impressive Ultra laminate flooring.
Kind regards, The Team at Quick-Step Australia.
Hi, thanks for sharing the acoustic information for the Quick Step 2mm Quiet Step Combi-Lay underlay. For the installation of a 12mm laminate floating floor on the 2mm Quiet Step Combi-Lay underlay in residential units, can you advise if acoustic isolation strips are required to be installed around parameter walls to ensure integrity of the acoustic performance of the underlay?
My installer has advised that acoustic isolation strips are not required as laminate floating floor boards are typically installed with a 8-12mm gap between the edge of the floor board and the perimeter walls. I would like to confirm with Quick Step if this is correct and if so get a technical explanation of why acoustic isolation strips are not required?
Regards
Good morning Bill, I can confirm that your installer is correct, a full and free perimeter gap of 8-12mm is required, therefore acoustic isolation strips are not required. Kind regards, The Team at Quick-Step Australia.

We’re considering getting Amato Blackbutt or Spotted Gum to install on concrete subfloor, for the whole house. We like the hydroseal for our kitchen-dining area. Some retailers suggested glueing it down, while others recommended floating. When would you recommend glueing?
Good afternoon Laura, Thank you for your enquiry regarding our Quick-Step Amato Engineered Wood Flooring (EWF). Both installation methods are permittable with QS Amato. The main reason people direct stick an EWF would be to mitigate any drummy sound, however floating the floor on a flat subfloor with an good quality (acoustic) underlay also will mitigate the protentional for drumminess.
The fashion at the moment is multi-storey residential buildings is to direct stick. With direct sticking comes additional subfloor preparation. Also, should there be damage to a direct stuck plank it's slightly harder to remove and replace the plank.
If you would like further information regarding direct sticking, please email services.australia@unilin.com and we'd be happy to send you the installation guidelines.

Re Quickstep Ultra Laminate - My installer is insisting that we have to have scotia around all end panels and the island bench in a new kitchen (end panels are weight bearing so they can’t be lifted or put on the flooring). They are saying that if we use silicone or similar it will void the warranty and we have to sign a document saying that our warranty has been completely voided (for both the product and the installation). Our builder/electrician/kitchen guy all say that they’ve been involved in numerous builds where there is a small gap which can be filled with silicone or similar and a larger expansion gap can go elsewhere where there is skirting. They all do not recommend the scotia. I can see that on the website there are examples of rooms with no skirting or scotia where the product meets the wall. Also the hydro kit says it is suitable to be used where there is no skirting. I’ve tried to call the technical support line in Sydney but it is permanently engaged.
Try a different product eg tiles.
Good idea but I’ve already got the same product next to the kitchen and we’ve opened up the area so we are continuing it into the kitchen. Thanks
Good afternoon Daisy, There are many tricks and techniques for the discrete installation of flooring around existing kitchens however these require prior planning and communication with your kitchen company.
These include: 1. fitting kickboards last of all after flooring has been installed 2. fixture of some panels after flooring installation 3. undercutting or rebating of panels or stone waterfall
In general, we do not recommend extended areas of caulking or silicone to be used as this prohibits the free expansion or contraction of the floor. It can be used in isolated circumstances in areas where profiles or kickboards cannot be used.
If you have further questions, please call 02 9982 3777 and ask Kendall and he'll be happy to assist you.

Hi there, we have Quick-Step impressive ultra laminate in our house. I have heard about the Euroflex vapour steam mops which are meant to be suitable for all sealed floor types including laminate.I had a look at your website and can see steam mops can be used but are not recommended. Can you please confirm if the issue is the moisture or the heat? I’m considering the Euroflex Vapour M2R with ultr dry steam technology. It uses superheated steam that dries reallly quickly. I imagine this is good because it’s not a lot of water but wondered if the heat would cause problems? Thank you!
Good morning NaomiA, Thank you for your enquiry regarding the use of the Euroflex Vapour M2R Steam Mop on our Quick-Step 12mm Impressive Ultra laminate flooring. Quick-Step floors with HydroSeal technology have a waterproof surface and cleaning these floors with a wet mop or steam mop is permitted but not recommended. If a wet mop is used always ensure a dry cloth is used to remove surface moisture after cleaning. A steam mop should only be used on low and must have a soft cloth fitted over the steam jets.
In relation to the microfibre clothes on a mop or steam mop please remember that between cleaning cycles your microfibre pad can be either handwashed or machine washed. DO NOT USE FABRIC SOFTENER as this can leave residue that can affect the appearance of your floor.
We recommend the use of Quick-Step Cleaning Product (QSCLEANING1000) when cleaning your Quick-Step Laminate floor.
If you would like a copy of our Care & Maintenance Guidelines, please email services.australia@unilin.com and we'll email a copy to you.

My boards have developed white patches all shapes and sizes - can anyone tell me how to remove them?
Good morning Mark, Thank you for your enquiry regarding white patches on your Quick-Step floor. Could you please send photos to services.australia@unilin.com Along with the photos can you please provide the following information:
1. Range of flooring? 2. When was it installed? 3. What underlay was used during installation? 4. When did you first notice the white patches appearing?
Kind regards, The Team at Quick-Step Australia.
Good afternoon Quick Step team - I have emailed the information you requested to the email address you provided. Is there some way to know if there will be a follow up? At this stage I haven’t had a reply. Thank you
Good afternoon Mark,
Confirming your email sent to services.australia@unilin.com has been received and will be addressed shortly.

Ok that’s great - thank you for letting me know - will wait to hear
We are due to have our Classic Sandy Oak laminate flooring installed next month. Our retailer has been out to inspect our timber/yellow tongue subfloor prior to installation informing us it will take a day to prepare with the boards installed the following day. Is there anything about the process we need to be aware of please? Also I have read a few dissatisfied posts about the noise factor. When I raised this concern our retailer said the boards come with 2mm insulation. Again, is there something we need to know about prior to installation please as we naturally want to be happy customers. Regards.
Good afternoon Rosemary M., Thank you for your enquiry regarding the installation of your new 8mm Quick-Step Classic Sandy Oak (CLM5801). Sub-floor preparation is the foundation of a successful installation.
If you could email services.australia@unilin.com we will be able to email through to you the installation instructions which outlines sub-floor preparation.
When installing a floating floor an underlay is used, you mention that a 2mm underlay is being used in your installation, check if the underlay being used is an acoustic underlay (like our Quiet-Step Combi-Lay), as they offer good impact sound reduction.
Kind regards, The Team at Quick-Step Australia.
Thank you, will do.
Good morning Rosemay,
Confirming that we received your email and will send through further information to you this morning.

Can a robot vacuum/ washer be used on the majestic floor?
Good afternoon Vicki, Thank you for your enquiry regarding the use of a Deebot or the likes on your Quick-Step Majestic Laminate flooring. Yes you can use a robot vacuum/washer on your Quick-Step Majestic flooring. Just check that it doesn't leave too much water on the surface and if it does wipe it up with a clean towel.
From experience the newer models of the robot vacuum/washer don't leave very much moisture on the surface. The floor is almost touch dry.
Kind regards, The Team at Quick-Step Australia.
What about Clix XL?
Good morning Adrian P, Clix XL post August 2023 has the waterproof technology, product prior to August 2023 does not have the waterproof technology. If you do have Clix XL with the waterproof technology, you can use a robot vacuum/washer on Clix XL as these machines only leave a very light film of water from the microfiber pad.
Laminate flooring, like other types of smooth floors, can become slippery when wet. Wipe any cleaning moisture off the floor immediately after cleaning using a clean towel or rag. Immediately wipe up wet areas from spills, foreign substances, or moisture from wet feet.
Kind regards, The Team at Quick-Step Australia.
Does your quick step laminate flooring expand and contract with variations in temperature?
Good morning Peggy, Thank you for your enquiry regarding the expansion and contraction of floating Quick-Step laminate flooring. During seasonal variation in relative humidity Quick-Step laminate flooring will expand or contract.
An expansion gap needs to be left, during the installation of the floor, to the entire floor perimeter, allowing the floor to expand or contract (as one sheet or “raft”) across the subfloor.
If you would like a copy of the installation instructions please email services.australia@unilin.com and we will send them through to you.
Kind regards, The Team at Quick-Step Australia.
Thank you. How does the laminate flooring handle heavy furniture please?
Good morning Peggy, Kitchen island benches and cabinets or any heavy fixtures should be installed prior to the installation of flooring and should not be installed atop laminate flooring. Heavy furniture like a bookcase, billiard table, piano etc. are fine to be placed on your Quick-Step Laminate floor.
When moving heavy furniture back onto your floor or at any other time, ensure items are not dragged. If items are too heavy to be lifted, roll them carefully over a sheet of plywood that will protect the floor from damage.
Protect furniture and chair legs using felt floor protectors where you can.
Kind regards, The Team at Quick-Step Australia.
Thank you very much for this information. Cheers
Good morning Peggy,
You are most welcome.
Kind regards, The Team at Quick-Step Australia.
Hi There. What Quick-Step underlay should I use for installation on the concrete subfloor?
Good morning Serge S., Thank you for your enquiry regarding what type of underlay should be used over a concrete sub-floor. Concrete subfloors – should be dry, level and clean. Concrete subfloors should be dry prior to installing a Quick-Step timber or laminate floor. Check the moisture content of your concrete subfloor to ensure the moisture content is below 75% R/H in accordance with the methods prescribed in Australian Standard AS1884. For knowingly or obviously “wet” concrete subfloors, first remedy the source of moisture ingress.
Installation can then be undertaken using an underlay that has an integrated damp-proof membrane, like Quick-Step Combi-Lay or Quiet-Step Combi-Lay. If you are using an underlay without an integrated damp-proof please use 200Um builder’s plastic, ensuring joins are overlapped 300mm and taped using a vapour-tight tape. Builders plastic should be installed vertically up walls and other vertical interfaces and can be trimmed after the flooring is installed.
Check that your underlay is the recommended underlay as results or performance cannot be guaranteed on underlays other than Quick-Step Combi-Lay or Quiet-Step Combi-Lay.
Kind regards, The Team at Quick-Step Australia.
Is the Blackbutt 1-strip RFS4600H suitable to put in a kitchen, lounge room and hall? Thanks
Good morning Sal, Thank you for your enquiry regarding the suitability of installing our 14mm 1-S ReadyFlor Blackbutt EWF in your home. Yes, RFS4600H is suitable in kitchens, lounge rooms and hallways.
Quick-Step Timber flooring should not be installed in wet areas like bathrooms, laundries and toilets and should not be installed in external areas.
If you would like a copy of the installation instructions please email services.australia@unilin.com and we'd be please to send them through to you.

Hello there,
We happened to use other company underlay with same properties for quick step laminate. Not sure how is it going to effect the warranty. Could you please help me with that. Thank you.
Good morning Subha, If you have had either our Quick-Step Laminate or Quick-Step Engineered Wood Flooring (EWF) installed our recommendation (as per our installation instructions) is the following: Quick-Step floors can be installed atop any level, dry, clean and sound surface (sub-floor).
Underlay is essential for all floated laminate and engineered wood floor installations. The specially designed Quick-Step underlays have a damp-proof, insulating, noise-reducing and slight leveling function. The smooth top surface makes installing the laminate panels easier and allows the floors’ expansion afterwards.
They provide excellent protection from sub-floor moisture with an SD >75m. If an alternative underlay is to be used, ensure that it at least meets all performance criteria of an approved underlay.
Also, the use of a competitors underlay that is excessively thick or has a dimple affect can damage the joining system as it's can be quite bouncy underfoot which indicates movement in the floor, which should not be happening.
If you have further questions etc. you can contact services.australia@unilin.com

Are any of your hybrid laminate flooring product suitable to go over underfloor heating?
Good afternoon Wayne B., Thank you for your enquiry regarding the use of Quick-Step Hybrid flooring over heated subfloors. In short, yes. In general, ‘in-slab’ low temperature systems are preferred, either hot water or electric systems can be used. Hot water systems are preferred, as they provide a more homogeneous heat across the floor, with less variation. It is best to cover ‘electric blanket’ or wire systems with a cementitious screed or levelling compound of at least 5mm. The elements should be installed right up to the walls, to reduce variation in temperature across the floor. The levelling compound serves to provide a level sub-floor, accommodate electrical components and connectors, while also improving the evenness of the floor temperature. Only floating installation should be used over this type of heating.

Hi, Am considering Clix Plus Impressive Ultra or Quickstep Eligna. We have slightly uneven wooden floor base at moment, and are unsure whether to get 8mm or 12mm with a slight bevel. (Our preference is non bevel, but wondering if there has to be a bevel for movement). Would one or the other thickness be more suitable, as we do not want the floorboards lifting up after a short time. Are you able to offer any suggestions as to which way we should go? We do have floor layers coming to offer their opinion, but would appreciate any input from yourselves. Thanking you, Graeme B.
If you have an uneven base, it'd be more important to have a thicker underlay in my opinion. My personal preference is 12mm as each mm extra is that much more thermal resistance. When you say wooden floor base, are you meaning OSB or something similar? Or do you mean actual wooden floorboards? I have had the Impressive Ultra for four years now, and it's an excellent fit, even with the minimal bevel, and I wouldn't ever get any other floor if I had to do it again.
We have pine wooden floorboards which we are thinking about sanding to a level (the high areas), but need to be careful so as not to damage structually. Which underlay would you recommend?
Good afternoon Graeme B. (Heth B), Thank you for your enquiry regarding the levelness required to install our Quick-Step Laminate and Clix Plus Laminate ranges. The maximum unevenness should not exceed 2mm over 1LM in accordance with our installation instructions.

The presence of square or bevel edge makes no difference to this spec.
There is no noticeable difference between 8mm or 12mm board when installed on an uneven subfloor.
Timber subfloors can be levelled by sanding or planing high spots and using a suitable filler on low spots, this is always preferred for best results.

We have had quickstep laminate for 2.5 years in our kitchen/ dining/ lounge room and have recently noticed a white sheen develop over the lounge room floor. This can’t be scrubbed off and looks unsightly. What could this be from and how to get it off? We are disappointed with the quality of the quickstep laminate.
Good afternoon Catcher, Would you be able to email a few photos of the affected planks to the following email address: services.australia@unilin.com This is our Technical Dept. and they will be able to assess your images. Kind regards, The Team at Quick-Step Australia.
Thank you, I have emailed them photos of the laminate. We are very disappointed with the quality. I am uncertain if this happens to all types of quickstep laminate or if ours in particular is faulty.
Good morning Catcher,
Confirming receipt of your email and photo's. We will reply to your email.

Hi! I've purchase Classic8mm Quickstep Laminate to lay on a concrete floor in a commercial building, and am required to have acoustic underlay "complying with the requirements within the NCC for Class 2 Buildings". Can you advise if the quietstep underlay meets these requirements? And are you able to advise how it performs compared to the alternative Regupol sonus core 5? Thanks!
Good evening J R., Thank you for your enquiry regarding the acoustic test result for our 8mm Quick-Step Classic Laminate range. If you could email services.australia@unilin.com we will be able to provide you with a test certifcate.

Good morning, Thanks a lot for the prompt support! The documents are very helpful for all the technical details but I am still unable to find the information about the integrated underlay layer. Could you please advise the material used for the underlay? Is it IXPE Pad? And just to confirm, is Pulse Hybrid SPC and using limestone rigid core?
Good afternoon Hannah,
I understand that our National Technical Manager has been in contact with to provide further information.

Hi, Which Quick Step laminate flooring can I use steam mop on? Thank you! Jenny
Good morning Jenny L, Thank you for your enquiry regarding the use of a steam mop on Quick-Step Laminate Flooring. Our current range of Quick-Step Laminates are treated with the HydroSeal technology and offer a waterproof surface.
As per our care and maintenance guidelines the use of a wet mop or steam mop is permitted but not recommended. If a wet mop is used always ensure a dry cloth is used to remove surface moisture after cleaning.
A steam mop should only be used on low, and must have a soft cloth fitted over the steam jets. Steam mops are not permitted on Quick-Step Classic and Quick-Step Eligna ranges. The following Quick-Step Laminates you are permitted to use a steam mop on are: Impressive, Impressive Ultra, Majestic and Perspective Nature.
PLEASE NOTE: Between cleaning cycles your microfibre mop pad or steam mop cloth can be either hand washed or machine washed. DO NOT USE FABRIC SOFTENER as this can leave residue that can effect the appearance of your floor.
If you are unsure if wet or steam mops are permitted for your particular floor contact your flooring retailer.
Kind regards, The Team at Quick-Step Australia.
