We’re considering getting Amato Blackbutt or Spotted Gum to install on concrete subfloor, for the whole house. We like the hydroseal for our kitchen-dining area. Some retailers suggested glueing it down, while others recommended floating. When would you recommend glueing?

Good afternoon Laura, Thank you for your enquiry regarding our Quick-Step Amato Engineered Wood Flooring (EWF). Both installation methods are permittable with QS Amato. The main reason people direct stick an EWF would be to mitigate any drummy sound, however floating the floor on a flat subfloor with an good quality (acoustic) underlay also will mitigate the protentional for drumminess.

The fashion at the moment is multi-storey residential buildings is to direct stick. With direct sticking comes additional subfloor preparation. Also, should there be damage to a direct stuck plank it's slightly harder to remove and replace the plank.

If you would like further information regarding direct sticking, please email services.australia@unilin.com and we'd be happy to send you the installation guidelines.

Kind regards, The Team at Quick-Step Australia.

Hi, we are considering Timber Quick Step. I am concerned about the oxidation process I read about. A lot of the floor is Covered by either furniture or rugs, so parts in bright sunshine and parts covered. Would this be a problem? We like the One Strip, Gloss - Blackbutt or Tassy Oak. Would this be a sensible choice. Also we have a dog and live near the beach (sand), just how hard wearing is it?

Thanks

Good afternoon Chris S., Thank for your enquiry regarding the suitability of our Engineered Wood Flooring EWF in your home. Colour stability will depend on the product. Natural Australian Hardwoods will tend to change colour over time depending on the UV levels that they are exposed to. This is not normally an issue as when rugs or furniture are moved the colour change will even out over time.

We would always recommend the matt brushed version in Blackbutt, this matt lacquer is more effective a hiding marks and scratches and as such easier to live on.

All wood floors are subject to marking and scratching but the matt brushed floors are much better at hiding this and as such perform very well.

We are considering laying the quickstep timber light /wide boards over existing original timber hardwood floorboards. Is this possible? What sort of underlay is used please. Thanks

Good afternoon Erin P., Thank you for your enquiry regarding the installation of your Quick-Step Engineered Wood Flooring (EWF) over an existing sub-floor of hardwood timber. Firstly, 2mm Quiet-Step Combi-Lay Underlay is an acoustic underlay that provides excellent impact sound reduction.

As per our installation instructions (which I'm happy to email to you):

Remove any damp-porous floor covering (carpet, needle felt etc.) first. Damp-sealed floor covering (PVC, linoleum, VCT, etc.) does not have to be removed. Always use an underlay (as mentioned above).

WOODEN SUB-FLOOR: Remove any existing floor covering first. No signs of mould and/or insect infestations should be present. Make sure the sub-floor is level. Nail down any loose parts. If the wooden sub-floor is flat (no unevenness greater than 2mm over the length of 1 meter), you can install any Quick-Step underlay. Wood sub-floors with unevenness greater than 2mm/LM should be sanded, leveled or sheeted along with a suitable underlay to render them flat and stable.

Install the new floor at ninety degrees to the existing sub-floor. The crawl space under the plank floor must be sufficiently ventilated. Remove any obstacles and make sure there is sufficient ventilation (minimum 4cm2 (1/2“) total ventilation openings per m2 (40”) of floor). The moisture content of the wood sub-floor must not exceed 10%.

Make sure that your sub-floor is flat, clean, dry and stable prior to installation of your underlay and new EWF.

Cooking islands and cabinetry for kitchens should be installed first and not placed on top of the timber floor. The timber floor must be able to move (expand and contract) around heavy objects to avoid open joints and separating planks.

Thank you for the detailed response. Just one question? The exisiting floor boards run lengthways down a long hall way, it would look silly to lay new boards at 90 degrees. Is it imperative that they are run at 90 degrees to the existing floor - or could it run the same way. Thank you.

Good morning Erin P., The replacement can be installed in either direction as long as the sub-floor is flat, clear, dry and stable. Also remember the floor can be glued down or floated depending on your preference and that of your retailer.

Good morning luke b., An elastomeric adhesive is used by flooring professionals to direct stick Engineered Wood Flooring (EWF). If you'd like a copy of our installation guidelines on direct sticking Quick-Step EWF floors please email services.australia@unilin and we can email you a copy.

We have had the uniclic flooring for just over 3 years. We just replaced our kitchen and had to pull up some of the boards. Apparently since we originally got our floors the lock-in /click in system has changed. The old boards were so easily to click together but the new boards won’t click together. We can work out why. Any help appreciated we only have about 4 boards to put in and we are done

Good morning Leanne, I think we spoke with you on the telephone yesterday morning. Did you manage to get the final board into place? Kind regards, The Team at Quick-Step Australia

Thanks for the reply. Yes it was me you spoke to yesterday. Still can’t get the board in place so will take a couple of boards back to where we bought them so they can see. Thanks again for your advice. The customer service has been great

I am considering laying quick step intenso chevron, and understand the width of the boards are 310mm. We would like run them lengthways down the hallway which has a width of 1100mm. Therefore just over 3.5 boards are required to cover the width of the hallway. From an installation perspective can you suggest the best way to lay these, given using over half a board won't mean the design is symmetrical i.e. on one side pattern that finishes against the wall won't be the same as the pattern that reaches the wall on the other side.

Thanks
