RAA Travel Insurance Questions & Answers
VerifiedHi, I attended the RAA AGM in Adelaide in November 2023, and one of the members raised the issue that Tokio the underwriter of RAA Travel Insurance had claimed to have a global network of doctors and nurses, but the member indicated that based on the evidence at the Jackson v RAA trial this network did not exist. The member wanted the RAA to raise a class action against Tokio on behalf of the members to reclaim their premiums obtained using a defective and misleading PDS. I have examined the court case information and the PDSs and contrary to what the RAA Chairman said at the AGM, it is true that the court never was asked to determine this issue in Jackson v Abram trial and the claims by the member are true, and it seems this is an important issue for the members. Can you explain to me why the chairman of the AGM indicated he was not going to record this issue in the minutes and he clearly had not. It seems the member at the AGM showed more concern about the other members that the AGM chairman did! This does not look good for the RAA and it 800,000+ members. Do not all of these members have a right to be notified by the RAA of this issue and the request for a class action? How come the chairman of the AGM single handedly dismissed the call for an enquiry into this issue by the RAA? Regards... a concerned member
A growing number of members that have been screwed over by Tokio marine would be very interested to hear this John. I myself have been denied a claim of over $15,000 by them, and have been told directly of many others being denied claims or claims taking years to pay out, with many just giving up. Very much time for a class action against the raa and Tokio marine.
Hi looking for australian waters cruise for 10 days this month do RAA cover cruises
Yes it is part of the application process. I suspect it increases the cost of the policy - like medical conditions - I do not know the cost.
I hav purchased travel insurance for a trip I was to undertak in May 2020 due to the pandemic obviously won’t be taking it . Do I get my money refunded for the insurance never used
Now......That's a great question. I never thought of that. I am in the same situation with a trip to Japan which is not going to now happen. I haven't yet heard from my travel agent about whether I am going to get a air fare refund or credit. Thanks for that question. I look forward to seeing what answer you get.
I would like to know who, at the RAA, I can ring for advice in relation to my "planned" China tour? If I cancel the tour & am I covered? or If I accept the offer of a deferred tour date from the travel agent & what are the insurance implications? FYI - My insurance was taken out BEFORE the Arbitrary cut off date/time as told to me by an RAA staffer yesterday I think it is perfectly natural for me to deal direct with the RAA (the supplier) If I bought a faulty Panasonic TV from JB Hi-Fi, I would not be "hand-balled" to Panasonic
Policy Number 20099393. Not happy with above comments, Going to Central Asia, Caucasus and Iran April till May. If Govt travel advice for Iran changes to DO NOT TRAVEL due to Corona Virus do I get reimbursed if I can't travel to Iran. I hope so. With Premium Cover I have paid alot.
You probably wont get reimbursed for anything u try to claim from RAA...total hip.
I was told no $1100 paid for premium cover, no claim just wanted to cancel cover, any other insurance cover car house etc always pay pro rata when you cancel, insurance wasn't even until 9th April and it was about 4 weeks prior
RAA will not cover Iran at the moment, even though it is Do Not Travel. Said have to wait & see what happens. So won't cover if I do go, or don't go! Tour Companies haven't cancelled any of my tours so I can't cancel or lose a lot of money. I am attempting to leave Au 4 April. Probably be a flight problem too.
2 companies now stopped trips. Have to defer tours. not get money back. Will ask RAA if I can defer insurance to a similar tour next year. Wonder what my chances are. So perhaps lose premium paid
Are we covered for the new pandemic I have taken out Travel Insurance on 7 Jan 2020?
I do not think you will be covered. My latest experience with Tokio Marine (RAA) is poor. Previously, prior to Tokio Marine the RAA was 10/10. I have used them for 25 years at least. You should ask RAA this question. The situation re the health virus is still developing and it’s not looking good.
Is RAA travel insurance owned by Tokio Marine?
I think it is
No it is not, Tokio Marine is the new company that the RAA now uses as its travel insurance broker
