to all who have used Rehau uPVC windows, it has been a very lonely and worrisome journey for me to decide which window company to buy from. Luckily I have found some very useful advise here. Any further feedback on your experience regarding Rehau uPVC windows would be greatly appreciated. Dear Mary, in addition to your advise on uPCV, I am also after sound insulation advise on uPVC. I am leaning towards double glazed windows using Viridian VLam-Hush as one pane and VLam as the other pane (ie no acoustic glass, simply to save a bit of money). 1) do you use Viridian VLam-Hush? 2) if yes, does the interlayer or "middle glue" of the VLam-Hush deteriorate visibly overtime? 3) there is something called Aluclad uPVC, ie. the outside looked like aluminium, the inside is uPVC, is this what you have installed? Please advise. Many thanks.

I haven’t used Viridian VLam-Hush, but double glazing usually improves sound insulation. Aluclad uPVC is a good option if you want an aluminium look outside with uPVC inside.

Dear DavidJenkins7473 Thank you very much for your kind help. We still have not made the move to change all windows, so your input will be considered as well. Cheers and best wishes for 2026.

Hello Mary

I'm about to do a major renovation and extension and am now researching double glazed windows and doors.

You sound very happy.

What concerns me is that there is only one Reahu review on this site and you have given them a 5 star rating which has me wondering if you have an interest in the installer's business or are associated in any way with Rehau?

I know this sounds cynical but one needs to be careful :( :( :(.

You mention the wrap an the outside of the window frames - what material is this made from and why would it be better than auto paint which these days has a good life span?

Many thanks

Lawrie Mitchell

Hi Lawrie, I completely understand your concerns. I also had a difficult time when renovating with the limited choices here in Canberra for double glazing options. I am 5 years down the road now and still love these windows and would not change them. Friends of ours recently bought into the triple glazing for the price of double and there windows are terrible in comparison. There windows get so hot you can burn your hands on them. I do not have to close blinds winter or summer unless I want to block out direct sunlight for the TV. We were offered painted frames with another company but when we went to see them in another persons house they were awful, rough at best, and painted with car paint which fades and peels over time. My suggestion to you would be go online and look at the Rehau website, this is what I did and why I ended up saving myself the misery of Chinese plastic that turns yellow. Be careful there are lots of pitfalls in this market. I am not a seller or part of any window business, just a person who luckily made the right choice with a great product and found Steven as our window maker. Frames are only part of the total product, call Viridian and talk about glazing - thicker panels, thicker gaps, gas filled all make a difference as well as glazing finishes are also very important in how it will perform and impact on your liveability in the long run. Research as much as you can and ask lots of questions before you choose. I hope this helps, good luck!

Thank you Mary

You mentioned a wrap instead of paint for the frames - do you know what material this is made from?

And how is it looking after five years

And what colour is it please?

Many thanks

Hi Mary, still happy after 5 years? I am looking at all options, but some companies get bad reviews; we have had one quote, but as it is only for half the house seems very pricey, but quality and after sales are what we are really looking for.

Kind regards

Linda

Hi Linda, Yes we are still very happy with our Rehau windows. I have seen other companies versions on neighbours and friends homes and would still choose Rehau. Steve from 2020 Windows did an amazing job for us. Good quality windows are an expensive choice but they have been worth every cent to us and the liveability of our home. I would advise anyone looking into UPVC to ask where they are made, some plastics yellow over time, and check what fly screens they offer. The other thing that was hugely important to us was the factory wrap on the outside frame. Our windows are a beautiful dark colour on the outside and white inside the house. They are not painted which would fade. I haven't seen this with anyone else. Also the fly screens are flush with the frame, which makes a huge difference to the overall look. I would also advise that all double glazing is not the same, thicker glass and a wider gap with gas, it may cost more but it really makes all the difference. Good double glazing is all we need in Australia, great sound proofing and climate control. We live in Canberra and only pull up the blinds if we need to watch a movie in the daytime or for privacy, winter or summer. Our carpets and furniture haven't faded from the sun and there are no cold drafts coming from the windows. Top Cat Upholstery make blinds that fit onto the window frame, and they complete the look and are very functional on tilt and turn windows. After seeing our friends choices I strongly believe Rehau have the best UPVC windows on offer and I'm very glad to have them.

Hi, are you still just as happy with your Rehau windows?

Hi Yassrock, yes I am still very happy with our Rehau windows and door. There are a few more companies now selling UPVC in Canberra but the Rehau, in my opinion, is still the best. I love the outside finish on mine, they don't look like plastic and the retrofit fly screens look great. My home is now quiet, we can shut out the street noise. We've had a very cold winter this year and I haven't closed the blinds once. It has changed the look of my home, the feel of my home and given our home a bit of wow! If I were to change anything I it would be the glass, to self cleaning glass

Thanks Mary - self cleaning glass does sound like the go!! If only they could be contained like a self cleaning oven!!
