Save yourself the aggravation. Rude aggressive staff and lousy cars that often break down while you are on the road. Go to BAYSWATER / NO BIRDS in William Street Kings Cross where you can rent a no older than one year Toyota Corolla for $25 a day- same price as a heap of junk from rent-A-Bomb. And at least the staff are courteous plus no little games like trying to charge you for dents that were there when you hired your bomb. Are their cars roadworthy? Difficult to know.
Rent-a-wreck pull one of the oldest cons in the book : they accept every booking but in fine print it says you must confirm on the day. When you get there there is no car available except a more expensive "model". Same old heap of junk. In Mascot I was threatened by the manager and who said "everything is on cam" as though I should be frightened. I said "good it's proof of how abusive you are".
False economy : you spend far more in time, money and aggravation than with a legitimate car rental firm.
I know of no other business where such rudeness is tolerated. Even second hand car salesmen have to be polite these days. I've put in a complaint to the Dept of Fair Trading and I recommend others do as well for this reason : something is seriously wrong that these clunkers are allowed on the road with so many obvious faults like dodgy steering & brakes. You can't get away with that when trying to MOT your own 6 year old car let alone a 20 year old clunker.
Also insurance : unless you have your own fully comprehensive insurance that covers you in any car I would NEVER trust them with paying the insurance.
Some people may have a reasonable experience with them- the odds are some customers will be OK but Rent-a-Wreck have far too many complaints and being in travel I've heard a lot more in person than we read on here.
And the reason I went there in the first place was to check out car-rentals to advise customers so they are on our black list as dangerous, abusive & costly.
We also had an employee successfully hire a Rent-A-Wreck and took it to our local garage. The mechanic simply could not believe how it passed MOT as the serious mechanical faults did not happen since being passed but must of been there for years.
# One of the oldest tricks with questionable firms is deducting costs for no good reason. Let's face, they can hit you up for an extra $100 on your credit / debit card and you have no choice but to pay it and trying to legally pursue that back through the courts is never going to happen.
