I'm due to travel to Australia and looking around for potential car rental companies. While I don't anticipate breaking any road rules or getting into an accident during my time in Australia. It's a bit concerning to read here situations of where their most expensive protection option will be voided if you make a mistake and inadvertently break a rule. Tried to Email SIXT Australia asking what their protection actually covers, but got back a very vague and unhelpful answer pointing me right back at the T&Cs.

Has there been any one who has hired through SIXT Australia and was able to successfully claim against their "All Inclusive Protection" in the event of an "At Fault" accident?

Hi - I always decline the excess cover offered by the hire companies and instead use RentalCover.com. They are far cheaper and from my recent experience with Sixt pay up in full -even though I couldn’t prove the damage was not my fault. There are so many exclusions on hire company insurance I don’t think it’s worth paying the extra . And I think you have to pay an excess unless you take their very top cover. In any case please take many photos before and after the hire - including under the car and report any damage as soon as you can. Good luck and enjoy your Oz holiday

Thanks. Ended up using Uber and Adelaide Metro / Public Transport which was more than adequate. Admittedly little bit disappointed in SIXT Australia's cagey communication around this considering the AU arm are entirely owned by The NRMA (NSW Motoring and Services side) who I would have thought would been looking out and advocating for motorists and consumers.

Did anyone else not get their bond back? Really confused as to how they operate. Both the money for the car hire and bond gets taken out of your account right away, return the car and the price of the car rental gets taken out again? Left my account in the negative over 1k ! They said the money got “released to them” once the car was returned yet that money left my account on day 1? They told me the bond gets “released” back to your account yet nothing on my bank statement when I check? Can anyone shed some light on this? I swear they took the payment twice and never gave me the bond back!!!

I have been waiting since November 2022, to have a question regarding my truck hire sorted out. From reading through the reviews, I should stop holding my breath. They obviously do not care. Message received.

I’ve been reading all the ‘bad’ reviews of Sixt on here and have noticed not one of them has been given an apology or explanation from a Sixt representative - this company should NOT be allowed to operate, I am genuinely surprised that it actually is.

Yep. I noticed that too. This is an American company. America is a highly litigious place as we know and so they’d never take blame even if at fault. We were threatened by staff today. I’m just blown away by it to be honest. American practices being adopted by Australians. NRMA uses them which is how we came to be dealing with them. People need to give that feedback to NRMA as we did.

I’m you’re referring to me - don’t bother. We’ve voiced our concerns to NRMA and really want nothing more to do with you. The three women that dealt with us were beyond unprofessional. I’ve had an ask around of friends, family and colleagues. 8 of them have dealt with Sixt - one as recently as us. ALL of them have had terrible feedback.

Don't go with them. Worst service ever. I booked a car, got the confirmation email only to be told that they did not have a vehicle for me. put me out for hours with no compensation or apology

excess reduction rates (depending on hire companies) can range from $10-$14 dollars per day up to $30-$34 per day, but won't necessarily cover all scenarios. Some providers (ie if booking through third party sites) will also offer better deals on insurance.
