I know that mattresses are supposed to be rotated regularly, and replaced occasionally.

With a SD mattress, is it only the foam inserts that I need to rotate and eventually replace?

How will I know when it is time to also replace the base component of the mattress?

Sleeping Duck
Sleeping Duck   DM

Thanks for your question, Jared! We recommend rotating the whole Mattress by 180 degrees monthly for the first 6 months, and every 3 months thereafter. Our Duck has been designed to be fully modular, which will assist with rotation and care. This means you will also be able to rotate your Precision Foam Pads inside the top as needed, but as long as you are rotating your whole Mattress you don’t need to.

Regular rotation will ensure even weight distribution, so you can get the most out of your Mattress for as long as possible. When combined with the right base support as well, this will keep you snoozing soundly for longer! You can read more about this on our warranty page here - external link

I’ve had my sleeping duck for 5 years and over the last 6 months I have woken up with bad back pain. If I sleep in another bed I wake up feeling fine so I know it’s the mattress. I was going to purchase a new insert and hope that makes a difference and I can go back to sleeping in my bed. Has anyone else had this experience and can provide any feedback

Sleeping Duck
Sleeping Duck   DM

Sorry to hear you’re struggling to find comfort, Kira! With the proper care of your Mattresses, including regular rotations and proper base support, we’re confident your Mattress will last the test of time. That’s why we back it up with a 10 year warranty, and are just a quack away for any discomfort.

It’s also completely normal for your preferences to change overtime. That's why we offer our firmnesses across the lifespan of your Mattress, with a purchase at the fraction of the price of a new Mattress. This is one of the great features of our Duck’s modular design, allowing you to get comfortable with a simple change of foams.

If you think there are any issues with your Mattress, you can always reach out to our team at info@sleepingduck.com, and we can take a further look if needed. Most customers do find a firmness adjustment can help in providing some relief and getting comfortable however!

Feel free to reach out to our team if you’d like to go ahead with replacement foams, or have any questions too. We’re always here if you need a hand! SDHQ

Hi Kira, I have had my King size SD mattress for about 3 years. I found it to be very comfortable in the beginning but for the last 8 months I have had terrible lower back pain. The mattress seems to have softened. I also bought the double SD for my son a few months after acquiring mine and his still seems to be as firm as it was when new. I'm thinking that perhaps the king size doesn't last as well as the smaller mattresses? Both mattresses were "medium" firmness. I also rotate them regularly. With the firmer inserts costing around $400 (when I last enquired) I am now considering purchasing a different brand as I am disappointed with the king size SD.

Jodi
Jodi

Hi, we have now had our SD mattress for just over 5 years and while it was so supportive and comfy for the first few years, have also noticed in the last 6-9 months that it has softened and sagged. We were also experiencing back pain on waking. Recently we went away and slept on a mattress for almost 3 weeks and both of us had a better nights sleep and woke with no back pain so I’m now looking at buying a different brand of mattress.

Sza

I also came on here cause I have had my sleeping duck mattress for almost 5 years and this morning I had the worst back pain and shoulder pain . This happened before and to fix it I bought a cheap mattress topper from aldi as I couldn't afford the sleeping duck mattress inserts . I Slept much better with the mattress topper on When u remove the mattress topper for a wash the back pain and shoulder pain I get its shocking . I am not impressed

Edita K.

I am having the same problem. After just over 5 years I wake up like someone was beating me all night. We hardly ever rotated the mattress because the Sleeping Duck didn't say we needed to. This is the first time I see them saying to rotate it regularly. I'm really annoyed.

Hi! I am thinking of buying a SD Queen mattress but worried about the weight (52kg) as I am not very strong and have arthritis in my wrists and fingers. I also read that the mattress is quite deep which I’m also worried about as that adds more difficulty for me. Just wondering if anyone else has had experience with these issues. I am 65 yrs old.

Garry B.
Garry B.

The mattress is packaged with wheels on the bottom of the box. However it is heavy and you would need some help. Tucking in sheets and blankets is no more difficult than any other bed. It’s 30cm deep and 62cm off the floor including standard base. The mattress edge retains its shape and doesn’t dip when you sit on the edge. There’s a sensation of climbing in and sliding down my wife is 155 cm and prefers the medium choice. Very happy. P.s perhaps you could “hire a Hubby” for a few hours to install for you.

Sleeping Duck
Sleeping Duck   DM

Thanks, Gary - you sure went above and beyond there! If you do find the Mattress to be on the heavier side Julie, we have had some customers previously use tools such as a Mattress Tucker, which can be found through a quick Google search.

We've also found using a base that the Mattress would sit on top of, rather than within the frame makes it a bit easier to make the bed, as each Duck has two handles per side to help with the lift.

Of course, we certainly understand the Duck may not be for everyone, which is why we offer a full refund under the 100 Night Guarantee.

We hope to welcome you to the flock soon! SDHQ

Hi there. I've had a Sleeping Duck mattress for a couple of years now and LOVE it. My problem lays in after moving house. Somehow my mattress arrived at my new home with a large hump in the middle of it and I haven't been able to flatten it back out. Is there anything I can do to flatten my super comfy bed out again?

Sleeping Duck
Sleeping Duck   DM

Hi Anna, Thanks for reaching out, we're thrilled to hear you love your Duck! Due to the modular design of our Mattress, it's good to note the foam layers can shift when the Mattress is moved. Rest assured, there's a simple fix to have you feeling comfy again which involves unzipping the Mattress and realigning the foams.

Feel free to reach out to SDHQ directly by following the link below and we can shoot you through a diagram on how to do so.

Hi there, Thanks for reaching out! We're so happy to hear that with the new big move, you're not wanting to leave the Sleeping Duck Mattress behind. At this stage, we aren't able to organise shipping or delivery within the UK. As our Mattress does come rolled within a box you could organise delivery there yourself.

Should you like to proceed with this, feel free to reach out directly if you'd like some further information regarding dimensions or delivery in Aus.

Thanks for your question, FTC! Based on the testing we did, we usually recommend keeping the Mattress vacuum-sealed and rolled for up to 1 month. If you keep it boxed for longer, we just can't guarantee the performance of the spring set.

Sleeping Duck
Sleeping Duck   DM

Hi SV A., Great news, this is a super easy fix! As our Duck is a modular design, it's not uncommon for the foam to shift inside as you move your Duck to your new home. To get things realigned, all you need to do is unzip your BreatheTech Cover and shift the foam lying beneath so it's sitting flush on your Spring Set.

If you haven't already, we'd suggest singing out to info@sleepingduck.com, as we have a nifty diagram to show these instructions.

I am having the same issues as the questions i have read here. I bought the firm mattress and had back problems with that ( usually I like a really firm mattress and I exchanged this for the medium and have continued to have the same issues with back pain. I have a Koala sofa bed in a spare room and have been sleeping on that to try to get a good night sleep - it is very firm and this has improved my problems a lot. So back to my bed ( which I would like to be sleeping in). This morning I removed the anti gravity foam layer and feel as others do - that this layer is way too soft and not suitable for firmness required by some sleepers. I was going to try sleeping on the bed without this tonight but not sure that this is advised? It has gone way past my return window but I would really like to solve this problem without the expense of an entirely new mattress. I hope you can help me as I relied on the good reputation of this product which I am beginning to doubt.

Sleeping Duck
Sleeping Duck   DM

Hi Faye, Thanks for taking the time to share your concerns! We're sorry to hear you've been finding your Mattress too soft of late and would love to see how we can help. Even with the cushioning of our AntiGravity layer, adjusting the firmness foam beneath is all it takes to shake things up!

We understand you may have initially began with the Firm and had swapped to our Medium option. If you did hang onto the Firm inserts, we'd highly recommend swapping back to this one to promote the support of your Mattress in the meantime.

We're also happy to share that we do offer an Extra Firm firmness to further increase the level of support offered by your Duck!

So we may provide more information on the next steps for your Duck, it'd be super helpful if you could sing out to the team at info@sleepingduck.com. Alternatively, we're available on 1800 667 196 on weekdays, 9am to 6pm AEDT.

Hi Gary, Thanks for the interest in Sleeping Duck! We're so excited to hear that you may be adding our Mattress to your home. Our King Mattress is a complete size that isn't able to be split! A King by standard Australian sizes will usually equal 2x Long Singles.

Although we do offer a King Single size, these aren't the same dimensions as a Long Single (which is something we don't currently have).

If you have any specific questions or concerns about this, our team are absolutely here to help out!

Sleeping Duck

Hey Mimi, Great question! Who doesn't love sleeping warm and snug when it's a little colder? Our Mattress can absolutely be used with an electric blanket - as foams can retain heat, we just don't recommend keeping it on for any longer than 4 hours.

Hi, I have the king firm but find it's too soft. Think this is mainly due to the antigravity foam layer which is so soft! I'm not sure the point of this layer when you want a firm mattress? It also doesn't stay in place very well, it's always wrinkling up under the cover. Could I potentially have a double layer of the firm inserts and get rid of the anti gravity layer?

Sleeping Duck
Sleeping Duck   DM

Hi Ali82, Thanks so much for sharing your concern! We've designed our AntiGravity layer to provide some initial comfort for your snooze and cushioning which alleviates pressure points. We also find it often offers that sweet 'ahhh' feeling when customers hit the hay, though we are so sorry to hear that this hasn't been your experience.

We wouldn't recommend removing this layer, as our Duck wasn't designed to perform without it. If you do have the Queen or King size, you'll also find this helps to provide you with a seamless sleep surface despite the split configuration of these sizes!

The good news is, we actually have an Extra Firm option which'll hopefully provide you with your desired comfort. Please keep an eye out for a message from our friendly SDHQ team, as we'd love to level up your comfort.

If you'd prefer, you can also feel free to give us a bell at info@sleepingduck.com or buzz on 1800 667 106. We're on the lines on weekdays from 9AM to 6PM (AEST).

We look forward to improving your snooze, SDHQ

I have the same mattress and found the anti gravity far too soft, and this is causing me and my partner to waking up feeling sore and un reasted. when we had ordered the mattress we chose medium , then chose to upgrade to firm, as medium was to soft, this made a slight difference but not enough. this took some time to get processed, when we where ready to order the free extra firm the 100 days had elapsed so we would have to pay the price per each side which was excessive at $300 per side. We then took off the anti gravity mattress and then used the medium option inside the bed base and then where the anti gravity mattress was on top replaced it with the two firm mattresses. looks good fells good. looking forward to testing it out tonight, all else fails my last resort is to goto clark rubber and try and find a medium density foam to replace the antigravity foam with something more firm.with the potential to install it in the zipped cover that antigravity comes in. didnt think id need to redesin and configure this matress as it sold as the beez nees. would not recommend this products, we have asleep republic matress in the spare room and find our selfs sleeoing there more then on the sleeping duck

Sleeping Duck
Sleeping Duck   DM

Hi Ollie, We appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback on our AntiGravity layer. We've designed this layer to provide you with that 'ahhh' feeling as you hop in bed, which ensures you've got some cushioning for any common pressure points. If you've found it too soft for your liking, the great news is a simple firmness adjustment may solve your discomfort.

Our team always want to ensure you get the best out of your 100 Night Guarantee, so we do our best to checkin with each adjustment to ensure you're sleeping comfortably before this period ends.

We'd note that the Duck has been designed with the AntiGravity layer in mind, and has not been tested to perform without this. Of course, we do want to get you sleeping more comfortably, so we've reached out with a message as we'd love to lend a hand!

Looking forward to speaking with you, SDHQ

DDK

I am not sure why Sleeping Duck team keeps repeating the same response over and over again when people complain about the Anti gravity layer? Instead, they can actually address the issue by changing something in the design may be? You are definitely losing customers by giving them the same spiel. I am in the same situation with my new "firm" Sleeping Duck mattress. I have been in pain for the last month, caused by the so called firm mattress, which is actually soft to medium on the scale of mattress firmness for most of the mattress producers. Also, the mattress sinks in the middle when the partners move closer, and you definitely can feel every movement the partner makes. In addition, the rim of the mattress is quite soft too. There are some merits to this mattress but something's not quite right with the design. I had such high expectations of it, unfortunately i must admit, i am disappointed.

Sleeping Duck
Sleeping Duck   DM

Hi DDK, Thanks for taking the time to share your experience. We are sorry to hear that you haven't been enjoying your Duck. While we certainly appreciate any feedback, our AntiGravity layer's purpose is to provide initial cushioning for your snooze to prevent any issues arising in common pressure points, like your shoulders and hips.

Along with our interchangeable firmness layer, we're happy to share that you are still able to decrease or increase your firmness level, without adjusting or removing our AntiGravity layer.

Have you had the moment to share your discomfort with our friendly team just yet?

As we do have that Extra Firm option which could help to alleviate this feeling. Of course, we understand that this might not work for everyone. If you did find our Mattress design isn't the one for you, a return is available within your 100 Night Guarantee too.

We'd love to help get you more comfortable, so please reach out to info@sleepingduck.com or to our team on 1800 667 196 on weekdays, from 9am to 6pm (AEDT).

We look forward to hearing from you, SDHQ

Sleeping Duck
Sleeping Duck   DM

Hi TJ D, What a great question, and we can certainly understand wanting to know what is inside your Duck! Our foams are created here in Sydney, and have been GECA Certified as safe for humans and the environment. They have not been treated with or contain flame retardants, formaldehyde, heavy metals, CFCs, or phthalates.

GECA (Good Environmental Choice Australia) is an Australian Ecolabel, and you can find out more on their testing standards on their website here: external link

The Mattress itself is also not processed with flame retardant or other chemicals during assembly. Additionally, we do not use any synthetic latex, vinyl or plastic within the Mattress and it is also not treated with any added fragrances or active anti-microbial products.

We hope this is helpful! If you need any further information, please get in touch with our team and we'd be happy to help!

Hi Bella, I weight near 80kgs....the bed is just right....Goldilocks right...not too hard and not too soft.....

Sleeping Duck
Sleeping Duck   DM

Hi Bella, Thanks for getting in touch with us here at SDHQ. Great question! Firmness and comfort are very subjective to the individuals preferences and experiences of a mattress so it can be a little tricky to pin point.

We find the Firm does provide the perfect amount of support, paired with our Anti Gravity foam with provides the comfort and contouring to your body.

To begin with you will have the option of either Medium or Firm but after the initial 21 nights on your Duck, I’m pleased to say that we do offer an Extra Firm Precision Pad (as well as a Soft) as a free firmness adjustment.

In regards to heat retention, the foams within the Duck are air grown in a pressure chamber, this technique allows us to control certain variables and eliminate any imperfections. The foams in turn will then be 8x more breathable than latex and memory foams with an increased longevity and durability.

Additionally, our individually wrapped pocket springs are designed to move independently, helping eliminate partner disturbance and as well as promote air flow.

I hope this helps but please feel free to ask us any further questions!

Kind regards, SDHQ

Hi sleeping duck, I have a king size bed with slats that are 6.5cm apart. It has one supportive beam down the middle with 1 support leg in the middle. I read that for King size it needs 2 support beams with 2 support legs on each. But if I were to put a big flat piece of wood over the slats would this make it okay? Thanks & take care Shelley

Sleeping Duck
Sleeping Duck   DM

Hi Shelley, Thanks so much for getting in touch. We’re so pleased to hear that you’re interested in on of our Ducks and appreciate you double checking if your existing bed base will fit within our requirements!

It’s great that the slats within your base are less than 8cm apart from one another - tick!

However due to the weight of the King mattress (60kg) as well as the individually pocketed springs, we do require that there are 2 central beams running from the head to the foot of the base, with 4 central legs attached for grounded support.

Unfortunately adding a large piece of wood over the slats would not be a substitute for the additional support beam that is required to cover you for our 10 year warranty.

Please feel free to get in touch with the team here at SDHQ and we can discuss any further solutions.

Warm regards, SDHQ.

Russell Poulier
Russell Poulier

Dear Paul, the mattress will flatten after a period of time so do not worry.

Sleeping Duck
Sleeping Duck   DM

Hi Paul, Thanks for reaching out It is absolutely normal for the foams inside the mattress to shift during the unpacking stage. There is a quick and simple fix! You just need to unzip the top cover and realign your foams: 1. Unzip your top cover and leave to the side 2. Gently remove this top layer of Hyper-Adaptive foam. *This layer is delicate so I'd recommend having 2 people lift from either side, or one person gently rolling the foam to the side.* 3. Realign your firmness layer. This layer is split in half and will be causing the 'ridge' you have. Replace the Hyper-Adaptive full foam layer. 4. Zip on the top cover, be sure there is nothing in the way of the zip. Please get in touch if there is anything else I can

I hope this helps but as always please let us know if you have any further questions!

King regards, Team Sleeping Duck

looking to replace a very expensive mattress (>$7K) with a very poor record - my husband and i are overweight and we are both side sleepers - do you recommend your product? we are also looking at purchasing the sealy posturepedic - is your product more suitable, just as long lasting?

Joanne Roberts
Joanne Roberts

Hi Sandra, I'm overweight and a side sleeper. I purchased the medium sleeping duck mattress and do not regret it at all. I'm extremely happy with it. I read up on a lot of reviews and even spoke to my chiropractor about the sleeping duck mattress.

Sleeping Duck
Sleeping Duck   DM

Thanks for the question Sandra (and Joanne for that response)! We're not experts in other brands, so can only speak for our own products; however we're definitely confident that the Duck will be able to provide the right fit for both of you for its 10 year lifespan.

We appreciate that it can absolutely be tricky to find that fit in terms of firmness, support and longevity. The hybrid design of a Duck combines both the tailored support and added longevity provided by its pocket spring layer with the comfort and customisation of Hyper-Adaptive and high density foam layers that sit above it.

As in Joanne's case, we find that most side sleepers tend to gravitate towards our Medium level of firmness. The Medium provides added give and cushioning that can often help with pressure point issues or joint pain that comes from side sleeping.

If you found the Medium didn't quite have the required support, you could always then give our Firm a try. Although it does provide added support, the Firm still utilises the cushioning of that Hyper-Adaptive (just as the Medium does), so it still shouldn't feel rock hard.

Under your 100 night guarantee, you're able to alter this level of firmness for free within those 100 nights after the date of delivery. This allows us to try and find the exact right night's sleep for you. So regardless of the level of firmness you decided to start on, within this period we can change things around, for free, to get you comfortable.

If things just don't work out with your Sleeping Duck, you are of course also entitled to a free return and full refund for your Sleeping Duck mattress within this period.

Let us know if you have any further questions at all!

Kind regards, Team Sleeping Duck
