Can I buy a package that we can use at home and take on the road in our van?

Philip B.
Philip B.

Yes, I would choose the Starlink Mini because it uses a lot less power when you are mobile and is an all in one unit. Take note of your data usage, I had to upgrade to unlimited roaming because we use the 50g allowance in a week. If it cuts out at the end you are on your own with no form of communication. Response to a Service Ticket can take days.

I am sailing from Australia to Vanuatu next year what plan should I use. The boat 50 MB maybe to small but the 1 TB to big and expensive, can you buy, as you use extra MB over the 50 MB or what are my options.

I am considering a starlink mini particularly for upcoming trip to the top end as well as other caravan trips. From the reviews I have seen the service is generally OK but the customer service is next to non existant even worse than telstra. I have brought enough bricks in my lifetime. I may go with satellite TV option and just get 4g service when I can.

Very confusing. Alot say Starlink is terrible. Don't know what to do as telstra Opticomm is utter rubbish down twice in 10 days. Any help appreciated.

I can only go by my experience. The hardware installation can be a bit involved. I had help from my step son who also installs teslar batteries to home. He says that he never has to call tech support with anything teslar, starlink related, because their stuff just works. There are companies / contractors who install starlink. I'm almost 6 months in and it's been flawless so far. 3 adults and 2 teenagers streaming content simultaneously and it doesn't miss a beat. It isn't cheap, but it is worth it. NBN, Optus Telstra are all terrible in my area. Hope this helps

Can one record TV programs to view or is starlink for live streaming only?

Dave B.
Dave B.

Starlink is just an internet service, same as one at home. You can stream services using the likes of a smart TV, but you would need some smarts in the TV to record. However, with the Smart TV you have access to the free to air stations online, such as 9now, 10Play, ABC iView etc where most shows are available to stream at any time.

I have a caravan and wish to use Starlink on my caravan. This will be used in winter in Western Australia. During summer I wish to use the same Starlink system on my boat which will be penned in a Perth marina and then on weekends moved to Rottnest Island approximately 15km off the Perth coast and anchored. Can the same system be moved from caravan to boat. Neither system is required to be used whilst boat or caravan is underway.

Dave B.
Dave B.

Yes. Not sure if you ever got your answer, but Starlink is usable where the Starlink map shows light blue. It covers out to Rottnest, so no issues at all.

Does anyone have this in the Chambers Flat or surrounding areas? Post code 4133. Want to know if worth investing for this area as have very poor internet service on ADSL only.

Can you run starling on 12 volt only

garyradley

It needs to plug into a 240 Volt socket. I would not think it is high powered so an inverter should work.

Why is it impossible to call someone at Starlink for assistance in Australia?

Overall I found their message service about a 7/10 I though considering time zones and US based pretty good ether than Telstra was on the phone over three hours today, shifted from person to person 5 times that’s hopeless

I've only been with Starlink for a very short period of time by comparison. The tech may have changed in two years. With my current generation, I do not have any problems other than the main fact that no one can do anything about is the weather, largely affecting the day-to-day speed.

If the question you raised was in the present, I would say it is a you-problem more than the infrastructure itself.

Hi, I live on the Gold coast and my NBN broadband is rubbish. Drops out all the time, have to load and reload the pages. So slow, even though my provider says it is all good. I work from home so it holds up my work. So I was contemplating Satellite but the reviews are 50% positive and 50% negative. Such a gamble. What are everyone's thoughts? Is the installation difficult or complicated to ensure the connection works? I am terrible at reading instructions (totally impatient) but technical I.T. things do overwhelm me, my concern is the expense for the equipment you get 30 days free but you have to pay 30 days. And if does not work you send it back, and get a refund on the equipment. Meaning you will be out of pocket for one month of charges if returned within 60 days and canceled is that right?

krystalfish
krystalfish

Hi Cathy, yes that’s right there is some risk (paying one month) but while it’s on sale for $450 I thought it was worth the risk. I found it very easy, I do get frustrated with setting up any technology so I can sympathise with you. All you have to do is take it out of the box out and click two pieces together and plug it in. Do you have an apple phone? You need to download the app and it will set it up itself. It couldn’t be easier. You can get any tv aerial person to put it on the roof but you can use it just sitting on the ground, not as good because of some obstructions but still better than the internet we had. Honestly I am so relieved that it’s so good, I work from home as-well and really need good internet. I can’t fault it. I really don’t know why so many reviews are bad. I know several people who have it and they’re also very happy.

Only recently changed over from super slow NBN satellite, what a joke that is. I have never seen or had internet run so fast, no more push a button and go and make a cuppa while you wait. Once I checked and the speed was below 50Mbs but generally always between 80 and 150 but have seen 220Mbs. A 5 year old could put the 2 pieces together and then plug the wires into the router. Its early days but I haven't had any issues with signal from the router and the weather affects it less than Skymesh. Great for rural areas but not can't comment on cities.

I am in a rental property in the Northern Rivers region of NSW with very limited mobile phone reception and no nbn connection. Telstra were absolutely useless on the phone and a complete waste of time. I am considering Starlink but after reading reviews on how obstructions impact the service I am a bit concerned. We have a very very large fig tree (20m+) close to the western side of the house that can’t be altered. Is Starlink going to be a viable option for us?

Scott

My property is also remote (Magnetic Island in North Queensland) and surrounded on the North and Western sides by tall coconut palms and a few large hoop pines. I was also concerned about this but didn't have any issues with obstructions. I'm only a couple of weeks in with Starlink and it is so far truly amazing. Some friends of mine used NBN satellite and advised me not to bother. Hope this helps!

Hi If you have a clear southern sky you should be ok. The dish will point south. There is an obstruction checker on the Starlink app. Use that before ordering to check you’re all good to go. If it doesn’t work out you have a 30 day return option.

My internet drops out completely with activateme all the time. When you rely on it for cameras and a business. My question is does Starlink drop out

Sue-Anne Dickfos

Sue
Sue

sometimes get dropouts, mostly less than 1sec outages recorded. depends on obstructions within field-of-view of dish to southern sky, sometimes unexplained longer disconnections 2-9 seconds. Dont have cameras connected but wifi devices dont appear to lose their connection to it on these minor disruptions. Power disruptions will have the dish rebooting itself can take a few minutes & then another while to resettle after it's obstruction surveillance

Mine often drops out. Often no internet for days and can’t get any proper help except FAQs. Just my experience.

We have had Starlink since January in one of the first areas to have it available. We are in a rural area. We have had no dropouts. Our family next door work mostly from home and they got it before us. They have had no issues at all and say that it's faster than the internet in Canberra where they sometimes go for work. Before that we had Skymuster, and Starlink is much better. The speed and unlimited deal have changed our life.

Yes. We got Starlink before Christmas . Half price. Quick delivery. We live in Kilsyth Victoria. I was sick of the nbn not working. We are not computer literate. But had it working within 10 minutes. We have a holiday house down at Geelong. We use it their also. Easy to use , super quick. Very happy. Not cheap but it works well for us. I hope this helps.

Hi, we are thinking of getting starlink but I wondering if it is worth it? The NBN that we have at the moment only had speeds of 19 and doesn't run the kids gaming and our TV's streaming.

nothappyjan

I think it might depend where you are located... im in NSW and alot of others are also and its been great... can't comment on Vic or Qld... I also have older equipment, not the newer router or dish... We have alot of connected devices, 3 adults streaming at the same time computer etc and its been great... didn't miss a beat in the floods where as nieghbours nbn didn't work. I am running eero 6 pro mesh with it, included router couldn't handle the devices we have. It is $$ to set up, but in my opinion it's been well worth it.
