Is it a private sale or dealer? Do you know a mechanic to help you look over it for you? Or someone. Check the log book services, How many klm. What has the car been used for? On road or off? Lots to look at.

Good afternoon, I’ve just recently purchased a 2017 model Toyota land cruiser wagon. It’s been done up quite significantly with aftermarket boost gauges on the right hand pillar of the truck when I get hundred it can get right up to 25 psi of boost just wanting to know is this a sign that it has been tuned or how can I tell if the car has been tuned or is this a normal?

Dave · LandCruiser 200 Mark II 4.5L Twin-Turbo Diesel VX (2012-2021)

I have a 4/2014 manufactured 200 series VX, (odo 28,000 Kms) as we primarily use it for going bush towing a van. The Sat nav came standard with the VX series (also GXL & Sahara) and is TOYOTA Branded. We have ongoing issues with the Sat nav “unable to locate the satellite.” This is a perplexing issue as around town (Metropolitan Perth, WA), it just cannot find the satellite. But when we go out in the bush, after a day or so day, it is quite able to find the satellite and lock on to it and is reliable. We had put up with it for a while and on a recent visit for a service to the TOYOTA dealership, where we bought it from new, were told quite directly on the phone by the Service Dept that we had “added it on and it was an option.” I have the original TOYOTA brochure (at home) that shows it came as standard but they would not accept that. They rang me and wanted to start taking the dashboard to pieces until I said quite plainly NO!. If it works out of town and worked without issue for several years in the metro area, it doesn’t need the dash pulled apart to diagnose. Any clues to why? and is there any software/map updates that can be done and if so, how? Thanks kindly. Dave

Darryl H.
Darryl H.

Am confused Dave as you say you bought it new so why wasnt it sorted out whilst under warranty provided it was in the car when you picked it up,there is an update for the GPS you can purchase, plus front up with the brochure and show them and if they dont accept that take legal as you will win,odo 28000ks or should it be 280000!!!

Dave
Dave

Darryl, Thanks for your comments, appreciated. Odo is 28K, not 280k, in short in mint condition. Our previous 80 series we had from new for 20 years only had 157k on it when we sold it and the guy who bought it could not get over the immaculate condition of it and the “still new car smell inside,” so you get an idea of how much we use the LC200. But the 80 would not tow out new van whereas the LC200 does have the power to do so. The LC200 is mainly used for towing our off-road caravan. We have our town car, so the LC200 is permanently garaged except for regular short metro trips to keep everything “oiled and in good working condition.” And of course, the message of “looking for satellite” is always there. The issue really started just out of warranty period and as stated, when we go bush, sorts itself out after the first day or so didn’t really concern me as I don’t use the sat nav in the metro area. The Toyota Dealership gave me those answers I quoted, late last year. But last weekend, we did a 150km trip (metro area) and it was all over the place, which got up my wife’s goat with “can you get that sorted out please!” Hence why I placed this up for comment.

So, if there is a software update, it beggars belief why Toyota did not even consider it or offer it……. or did their service even have any idea there is an update? I presume the s/w update is only available “to buy” from Toyota who must install it?

Stewart P.
Stewart P.

GPS is for onroad only and never should be relied on for offroad. Unfortunately even the latest update is years out of date. You would be better off looking towards the aftermarket for a solution.

Dave
Dave

Yeh well, I’ve got news for you. Its called SATNAV for a reason as that’s what is uses, satellite to navigate. So it doesn’t care whether you are on road or off road, just so long as you can get satellite coverage. And the issue has been resolved, it was the fitment of the Crash Cam that was blocking the SATNAV LoS (that’s “line of sight” in case you didn’t know…..to the Satellite) access and now the Crash Cam has been slightly re-located a few centimetres away, all has been working well for a couple of months now, both on the tarmac and off road. And although there are no system software updates to be done from TOYOTA, have updated the memory card at Toyota, for a cost of $130, to the latest roads/streets etc. mapping. So there you are . Dave.

LaurieE
LaurieE

Can I suggest that when you are parked up at home and the car has not been used for sometime, it is highly likely that the car has lost contact with the satellites. (This does Happen) When you are out bush the car is visible to satellites and slowly (A couple of days) reconfigures to the current view of satellites. I bet if you left the car outside at home for a day, it would then work fine in the city. This has certainly happened to me with a TomTom nav system that sits in a box at home when I'm not travelling.

Monica as with all problems with high tech cars that the user has a lot of times it is a simple answer and one of the most important things you must do is read the book over and over as there will be an answer there,if not you go to a Toyota dealer only

D C. · LandCruiser 200 Mark II 4.5L Twin-Turbo Diesel Sahara (2012-2021)

2020 Sahara- don’t think it comes with hill start assists? Does it have an emergency braking system? The active cruise control will not work under 50k/hr?? And the front parking sensors only at either corners? The power mode and the eco mode both produce the same kms and both tank combine city driving will yield just 700km diesel.

Darryl H.
Darryl H.

Dont quit understand with hill start assist ie if you are on a hill and its in D it will move forward with acceleration,it does have emergency braking as it will start beeping to warn you its going to stop, parking sensors are 2 on the front and rear only and can be turned off,i doubt fuel will be the same if only in power mode as against eco mode because if you want more power you are going to use more fuel, you should get at least 900ks out of full tank, some claim 1000 or 1200 ks which is rubbish, the most important thing to do is read the book several times until you get it right,i am on my 6th 200 series and not one bit of trouble, suggest you put a secondary fuel filter on(do it yourself) and only buy genuine Toyota filters plus ease your foot off a bit

D C.
D C.

Hello, thanks. That emergency brake system is that you still roll downhill a bit before it beeps and brakes etc so it will hit car at rear if it’s close...what I mean for those sensors was the rear is ok but that front you need to go very slow to sense unlike other car that got 4 it will beep long before you get there. Fuel eco and power I did tested-full tank for each mode they are exactly the same-700km. Over the same route everyday. Highway to the danger zone may be 1000km but not in the suburban streets in Sydney. I have had the first straight 6 100 series GXL back in yr 2000, then the same series Sahara a couple of years later, I then changed to ranger rover sport in 2005 drove 2 models for 10 yes then changed to Mercedes GLE then to this one.

D C.
D C.

Also when you on a steep hill on full stop. Then release Brake it will go backwards then the emergency brake whereas other brand car with electronic brakes will hold itself so all you have to do is to accelerate to go. I think it’s call hill hold on other cars...

I have an issue with my 2018 LC 20 VX model and radio and Bluetooth having no sound. Here’s what happens Currently - no sound at all coming through. This effects the radio and whilst the phone does connect to Bluetooth, there is no sound coming out of that either. Previously - there has been static coming from the speakers. It is very random and can ‘crackle’ at any time, then goes quiet, then crackles again. Occasionally - At times it just switches on and everything works. Toyota have replaced the head unit and zero change. I just picked it up from Toyota today for attempt #4 and the technician says there are ‘no problems with wiring or speakers’ however I still have no sound Any help/advice would be wonderful.

how to fix a clove box lid from opening

dan_e_k
dan_e_k

The glove box handle pulls the latches into both sides of the glove box door/cover . These sometimes jam in because of dust or debris, and have to be coaxed out, but gently. A little lubrication helps them work better. It is not advisable to try to crack open the door as they are stuck together very well.

I have a 2011 gx, and got it remapped recently after buying it about 8 months ago, and the readout said that it only has 165kw after the remap and 140 before, I thought 200kw was standard

200kw is at the engine. When you allow for drive-line losses you get 140kw as measured at the tyres

165kw is measured at the tyres.

Dont feel bad, The Y62 Patrol is 297kw at the engine and yet was 163kw at the tyres AFTER a tune.

I have a 2008 model V8 diesel auto. It battles to reverse. It does not move when I hook a trailer to the nose towbar and try to reverse. Even over a slight bump and definitely uphill. Even if I rev the motor a bit. The gearbox oil was changed by Toyota but there is no improvement. Please advise?

Tom
Tom

Why are you hooking the trailer/van to the front end and then reversing? I have a 2015 Cruiser and when hooked to the rear tow ball have no trouble driving forward or reversing our 2.9 ton carvan. Every time we come home I reverse it back onto the driveway with no problem. I have never tried to hook the van on the front and reverse it. Maybe reverse is not meant to pull 3 ton.

Stewart P.
Stewart P.

Check the handbrake. Ive seen mechanic's over adjust them and it almost locks up the wheels in reverse. The other issue is the brake distribution, with heavy weight on the front the brakes will be doing some weird stuff. They arent designed to be used like this. Reversing with the van correctly hooked up to the rear will be very different

I am not sure if the lines are even there. Certainly not on my current 200 series GXL. Camera is off set but you get use to the angle when backing onto the caravan.

After taking the top half of the rear door lining off to reroute wires, I swapped the camera and door latch around. The D35 hitch has a pin about the size of my thumb to back onto. I will never understand why Toyota didn't do this when designing the cruiser
