shock absorbers and power steering components were not readily available in Australia.
These are basic parts that should be easily available for any vehicle being sold in the Australian market. Because of the poor parts availability, my car has remained off the road while waiting for repairs.
I am extremely disappointed with GWM Haval’s parts supply and after-sales support. I do not understand how these vehicles are being sold in Australia without reliable access to essential spare parts.
Based on my personal experience, I cannot recommend GWM Haval. Buyers should seriously consider other brands with better spare-parts availability and customer support.

pretty feature packed for it's price range, the brand and experience is massively let down by lack of support from GWM and a dealer network who clearly realise their owners will never buy another one, so they make up for it by charging as much as possible.
When you first get in and drive one, they finish and driveability are fairly impressive for it's price point, as are the standard features that many Utes twice the price don't have.
It's when you have been driving it a few months or years you start to realise why they are so cheap.
First up. GWM are woeful, basically once they sell the car, they don't care. They don't update anything, despite a number of the issues being easily fixed with software.
Some of those things are: Lane Keep Assist (LKA) - Overbearing and annoying (like many cars), but on the GWM, LKA overrides the centre dash screen CONSTANTLY - you can hold 'OK' down to get out to the digital speed, trip time, fuel consumption etc, but within seconds it will take over again showing information you don't need to see - Easily fixed with software.
Infotainment - Just buggy, crashes, or decides to not play audio/radio from time to time, until you either hold down track advance on the steering wheel which resets the system (and also re-enables LKA - see above) or you turn the car off, wait about 10 minutes and turn it on. Again, software.
CarPlay (not sure if Android Auto is the same) - The GWM tells Apple it is LHD so all the menus etc for CarPlay are laid out as if the driver is sitting on the other side. Again, software.
Camera system -- You cannot change the stereo volume while the cameras are active, a weird quirk that is way more frustrating than you think, It also means if you are at an intersection and want to change stations/track etc, you need to turn off the setting that brings up the side view camera etc which would be quite useful if it wasn't so poorly implemented, and, like the above, fixable with software,
Moving on from software, the other main issues are turbo lag at take off, this can be downright dangerous if you aren't prepared for it, DPF - It seems to do a burn off sometimes twice within the same trip, I'm curious if the reported fuel consumption takes this into account.
Keyless entry - great feature, really useful. When it works - I can be holding the key up right next to the door and it won't recognise it sometimes.
Oh, and not an issue just an observation - cabin lights - there is a light in the front, at the front, but no light in the rear - who signed off on this to save $3? It is such a huge pain in the ass trying to find something on the backseat at night - if you were too cheap to put a light in the back then you could have at least put the cabin light in the centre,
Let's move on to ownership experience - the dealer. The least interested party in the whole transaction.
Servicing costs are astronomical, and the ute has 10k intervals so it has more frequent servicing than most of its competitors.
My recent costs : 35k - $605 45k - $653 55k - $1216 65k - $500
And the timing belt is due at 75k so I'm sure that will be even worse. I also have a problem with missing/surging when cold, going uphill etc. I have reported this to the dealer 4 times, and every time they drive it around the block and tell me nothing is wrong.
So all in all, if you want to own a cheap ute for a short time, go for it. If you want longer ownership, go elsewhere, the service costs alone will bridge the gap to a more mainstream brand and the user experience of a brand that cares will be well worth the extra cost.

cruise control/battery fault that was never properly fixed despite a "software update," and a vibration fault at our next service (June 2026) that also came straight back after a temporary fix. In August 2026, while driving with my family in the car, the vehicle started vibrating badly, wouldn't respond to the brake, and I couldn't switch it off. All warning lights came on. It eventually turned off on its own. Genuinely terrifying. It's now been over 5 weeks and GWM still cannot diagnose the fault. Their own service centre's internal report shows the car loses communication between multiple control modules and has lost EV mode entirely — the case has been escalated all the way to GWM's head office in China, and their own technicians still can't replicate or fix it. Instead of taking responsibility, GWM Australia has spent weeks telling us to go to the dealer, while the dealer says they can't do anything because they're not an authorised GWM service centre. We were even told to "keep working with" a dealership that has never had physical possession of our car. We were also initially refused our own vehicle's diagnostic data, being told it was "internal only" — despite GWM's own service centre having already shared similar information with us directly days earlier. We've been left paying full loan repayments, registration and insurance on a car we can't drive, with a hire car too small to fit our three kids and their car seats. We've now had to lodge a formal application with VCAT just to get a straight answer. If you're considering a GWM, please do your research first. A brand-new, top-of-the-range vehicle should not fail like this, and a company should not treat a documented safety fault this way.

IMPORTANT EXPERIENCE TO SHARE — GWM Tank300 Buyers (and Tank500?) I want to share my personal experience with my near-new GWM Tank300 hybrid ultra to… Read more
help inform future buyers – I want to clarify that the below includes only facts about my experience so far. My purpose of posting the below is to educate on my personal experience on the ~month anniversary of not being able to resolve this ongoing debacle with GWM or it’s dealerships. If you are like me and the 7yr warranty + roadside assist is what made you consider buying one of these vehicles, this post is for you. On 26 April (a month ago), my Tank300 suffered a complete brake failure — the brakes and major safety systems (like lane assist and collision avoidance) all stopped working, reportedly due to an “electrical gremlin.” Thankfully, no one was hurt, but this was a major, dangerous failure. I hope they can find the source of the error as if this happened in a heavily populated area or near a pedestrian crossing I shudder to think of the consequences. Whilst I understand that there are always teething errors in new vehicles, the car has been completely unavailable for 4 weeks (and ongoing) with no replacement provided despite several requests, personally making approximately 30 attempts — through calls, emails, and messages — to contact GWM Customer Service, Head Office, a Perth Dealership (where the vehicle is now) and a Regional Dealership (place of purchase). I am still yet to be given a repair timeline, provided no assistance, been left on hold many times and am now hiring a vehicle at my own expense despite the issue being (clearly) covered under warranty. I have kept an entire communications log of these and this is not an exaggeration. Despite this long wait and repeated effort, the situation remains unresolved, my personal car hire is ongoing at my own expense and the latest vague update from customer service is it may take another month to know if the vehicle will be fixed, with a courtesy car or a refund both being avoided. This will mean over 2 months without my brand new, ~$60k vehicle.
❌ Warranty and Service Network Failures Even though GWM advertises a 7-year unlimited kilometre warranty with roadside assistance, here’s what I actually experienced: No roadside assistance where it mattered: I was forced to personally arrange to transport the vehicle nearly 1,000 km (goldfields to Perth) because no help was provided when the failure happened. Roadside assist only became available once the car was back in Perth — which defeats the point for anyone traveling beyond a regional center. No courtesy car or alternative transport: Despite repeated requests, GWM provided a replacement for 2 days thn refused to extend the vehicle or any assistance, leaving me stranded for weeks — a situation that is still ongoing. They have passed me between 2 dealerships (the one the vehicle is at and the one I bought the vehicle), customer service and headoffice. Each tells me it is someone else’s responsibility to help. This is now countless hours of sunk time on phonecalls and emails for no resolution. Terrible communication: Despite ~30 contact attempts over the past month, I still have no written update or clear repair timeline — only vague verbal estimates of at least 5 more weeks without the vehicle. Not only do I not get replies, I have not been contacted without me initiating it myself. No ownership of the issue: Despite acknowledgment that the brake failure is an issue covered by warranty, refund or resolution requests have been ignored, with no acknowledgment or action from GWM. ⚠️ What Future Buyers Should Know I share this not to vent but to help others make an informed decision: ✅ Don’t rely on the warranty promises. A long warranty sounds great on paper, but when something serious goes wrong, the real question is: will they actually help? My experience says: No. What worse is this is ~1 yr after purchase. What’s yr 4, 5, 6 and 7 look like? ✅ Avoid this vehicle if you plan to travel beyond major towns or regional centers. The roadside assistance appears functionally useless outside urban areas — it only became active once the car was back in the city. If you’re considering this car for touring, off-road adventures, or remote travel, be aware you may be left completely on your own if a breakdown occurs. ✅ Assess the service network. GWM’s service and support network has proven unable to handle major failures, reasonable repair timelines or provide responsive, helpful communication. You may find yourself without a car — and without meaningful updates — for weeks or months at a time at significant financial cost. Final Thought I truly wanted to love this car and when it’s working it was great — but when things went wrong, I found myself completely unsupported. In all honesty, I don’t think I can ever trust it again given the brakes can just randomly stop working and there is no way I would be putting children in it for this reason. In summary, the vehicle appears to have a major safety defect, the repair timeline is completely unreasonable (tells me they have no idea what’s gone wrong?) and there is next to no service, support or assistance despite the promises. If you’re considering a GWM vehicle, make sure you go in with eyes wide open, especially if you plan to drive beyond the city, need reliable support or can’t afford to have it off the road for months at a time.

If you have a warranty issue? the GWM agent is Tamworth, (Fosseys) - so you phone this GWM agent, (Sherri), explaining that your vehicle (UTE) is still under warranty, and the two front sensors for the wheels, is problematic, because a loud beeping noise comes on. Take the vehicle in locally to be checked, nothing wrong with tyre pressure or anything else. Told it was a faulty sensor. Now two sensors doing it. So phone GWM agent at Tamworth (Fosseys) - I am told (Sherri) ute been to local mechanic - and its faulty sensors, - Sherri from Fosseys says, to bring vehicle into their workshop (twice on two separate times) firstly to get it checked, secondly to get it fixed. Problem is I live country near Moree, nearly 6 hour round trip, (12 hours travel in total) plus accommodation, and said to 'Sherri' Fosseys agent for GWM at Tamworth, - that I couldn't get there, until earliest 10am due to leaving re kangaroos/pigs problematic etc. Her response? "first in, first served", I explained that I would have to stay over-night and that is expensive, because its over $100 in petrol just travelling and twice that is around $300. Could she please book me in early? twice travelling, - plus accommodation $200 X twice, for reasons I explained to her. She said no. I said, " I recently, had a windscreen replaced, and got an appointment for a new windscreen, (while I waited)". Still no. So, I would never buy GWM again if I knew that warranty was so expensive, and I am posting this - so you understand - that you will be required, to not only big expenses in travel, but to stay in paid accommodation. So it is hardly a free warranty. Look on a map and see the huge wide expanse area of farming, nearly half of NSW in fact, which does NOT have a GWM agent (past Tamworth) thats nearly half of NSW. And in my opinion, a very poor agent, as well, in lieu of the fact they do not take appointments, so you the customer are in fact the loser. big gamble just sitting there hoping and waiting you get your vehicle looked at. If not, go back to paid accommodation and try again the next day. Added to this, I ordered a new Key FOB, (takes 4 hours to get lock copied plus remote into key) and same story, No, - I cannot book an appointment, (so another stay overnight). They will not do the two things either, in one go. Adding up, it all inclusive, of just under $1,000. I brought a new car two years ago from Fosseys, nightmare deal. (another story). Back to GWM agent Tamworth, Fosseys, re ordering a remote key for the ute, it took weeks to get an email reply, on request info for the remote key price - then more weeks followed after I replied to the email on payment and time/method required etc, I finally gave up, then out of the blue a text to contact them, re the remote key. (no sign off name/business, on text - I first thought it was a scam). So GWM do you know how your GWM agent in Tamworth is treating your customer/s? Probably not - your fault, if you don't know. But anyone reading this, be aware, - I am myself right now, in the process of trading in my two year old car, and my GWM ute, for a brand new vehicle, and already been to Inverell car yard, for a new vehicle. Why? because its so much closer to rely on the warranty if I need to get something fixed, plus, I reckon they are in the land of 2025, and book people in, for an appointed time slot, for services, warranties etc, - I do not sit there and be told - - "first in first served" - - very abusive practice, that does not take into account, a customers expense/s and travel circumstances. But certainly looks after Fosseys, methodology, of their inbuilt rigid structure/s. Just thinking of the time I am going to save, not to mention waiting around in a waiting room for hours, and also feeling as though a vehicle manufacturer actually cares about me as a customer. GWM hasnt done its research., they are looking after their agent - not the customer. my rego number is DI84DM. Any chance you can help and have a heart?

safety features that can't be permanently disabled, and, rather stupidly, only one key fob. My main issue has been with the dealership. I have enjoyed driving the car. It is well done especially considering the large number of features for the price point. I find it extremely comfortable to drive, compared to other cars even with much higher comfort ratings and reputation. Even after recent major spinal surgery it has remained comfortable, and, unlike my custom recliner, cuased no problems, even at the surgery site, so pleased in general with my purchase. However, I AM ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTED WITH THE TOTAL LACK OF DEALER AND MANUFACTURER SUPPORT. dESPITE PROMISES TO HELP RESOLVE SOME ISSUES, SUCH AS THE RADIO, THE DEALER HAS FAILED TO RESPOND TO MULTIPLE CALLS, AND EMAILS. I then complained to the company, on at least 3 occasions and have yet to receive any response. As much as I quite enjoy owning and driving the car I would suggest that YOU AVOID THIS COMPANY LIKE THE PLAGUE. They seem to have no idea what support is once they have your money.

The Carplay and rear sensors also dont work, GWM Burwood says that "they are UNABLE to diagnose any issues", even after showing them proof on videos & pictures!
It’s been 3 weeks since my car broke down and it’s now sitting at GWM Burwood with NO clear update or timeline. I’ve contacted GWM Lilydale, where I bought the car and surprised to see that they are ot interested in taking this issue seriously. Unable to get in touch GWM Australia too.
The lack of responsibility, coordination and urgency is shocking!
Meanwhile, I’m paying loan instalments for a car I can’t drive, relying on others just to manage basic daily needs.
This is not what you expect after investing in a “new” car.
To anyone thinking of trusting this brand: DON’T. GWM is NOT reliable. The after-sales experience is worse.

During the first 2 week ring up every day, nobody is willing to help, including the head office. Spend lot of money hiring a car myself to get to work. Finally talked to somebody from the office and they said they send me an email so I can sent my invoices to claim reimbursement. Never happen, again ignoring phone calls ignoring emails. GWM and Alto (Castle Hill) are nothing but a scam. Been told I need new front break pads. Cost $1000+. Now I know why the car is so cheap. I could go on for hours about the stupid PDF self cleaning system. EVERY WEEK the car need to run at high (2800-3000) rpm for about 20 min. You take a massive risk buying this car.
