Does Australia Post travel insurance cover flight delays?
According to the plan I purchased, the International Comprehensive Plan does not automatically include cancellation cover however you are able to add cancellation cover - but only if caused by STRIKES - which is very limited. So you are not covered for delays or reschedules. If you choose this very limited cancellation cover this will increase your premium. So buyer beware!
Thanks so much

We were due to fly out on 14th April and I have made numerous attempts to contact someone to cancel our policy as there are travel bans restricting our plans. I have been unable to speak to anyone, despite holding for hours on several occasions, and I have sent several emails. On Easter Sunday I had a call from Travel insurance partners who told me if I cancelled I would lose almost $80 as I was out of my change of mind period. I stressed the fact that the government had banned all travel, I didn’t change my mind, so I was told I could change the dates but I would have to pay more. I gave a few dates to get an indication of how much and it was almost double my original policy cost. I then said when will it not have extra charges, and was told even a policy for one day would be $25 for the day, and it would continue to increase with each day added. This is for a policy that I have already bought!! Seriously?? I then was told that she could make a special request for a full refund but she didn’t have high hopes and she wouldn’t be able to get back to me with a response until Easter Tuesday, two days after the phone call. I asked her to do that. I haven’t heard back, I have phoned several times,I have emailed several times, to a couple of different emails, and am now very angry about the whole situation. It’s disgusting that you aren’t prepared to give a refund, but to just ignore phone calls and emails while you sit on my money for doing nothing is unethical and appalling. I bought my policy and paid for it online, you have done absolutely nothing and have no right to keep my money. I have used your insurance for many years but unless I get a full refund in the next couple of days I will be making sure that I will be telling everyone how you have neglected your duty of care to your customers.please contact me urgently.
I was due to fly to Bali tomorrow 22.04.20 with Virgin airlines. Now the airline has gone into receivership. Does my travel insurance cover this. My reference : 4403990139752

I have booked and paid for a one way flight from Perth to Melbourne for my wife and I on Monday the 14th September with Virgin Airlines. At this stage I do not want to cancel our 3 week holiday, hoping that the current lock down for travel throughout Australia is no longer required. I am concerned that Virgin Airlines might go broke if the Australian Government do not give them a lot of money to help them out, seeing they are not able to fly. If Virgin do go broke will I be able to claim this on my Australia Post travel insurance policy that I took out on the 15th January? When is someone going to give me an answer to my question please ? lloydrhome@gmail.com
Urgent answer required please. Today I wasted 1 1/2 hours on 1300728015 waiting for someone on your travel insurance help line to answer my call on hold. I sincerely hope that I was not being charged per minute for this time I was waiting on line. The reason for my call was to receive an answer for the two emails I have sent to Australia Post travel insurance during the least 3 weeks. I have confirmed twice that it was me sending this request and I still have not received a reply. I want to know if we are covered for our Virgin Airflight costs ( that we have already paid for ) if Virgin go broke or are placed in to administration, that is being rumoured today. We took out our insurance in January 2020. Our holiday to Melbourne is booked for September 2020. We have also booked and paid for many other places to stay at during our holiday and at this stage do not want to cancel any of these bookings, in the hope that holidays throughout Australia will be back on track by then. Can someone please get back to me as soon as possible to let me know where we stand with our travel insurance if Virgin Airlines are not in operation at that time or cancel our current bookings. Because of the Australian Government has advised against International Travel we will not be leaving on our planned holiday in May. Can we get a refund of our policy which we no longer need? We took the Policy out over 6 months ago!
We are looking at changing the dates of our travel and are wanting to know how we go about changing our travel dates with Australia Post travel. We are not due to leave until May and took out the policy 3rd Jan 2020. I have rang Australia Post and waited for over an hour last week with no update on how long my wait could be on the line. Is it just a matter of waiting on the phone for hours until you get through? Are date changes even possible? First time overseas traveller and would appreciate any advice .......

If Australia closes the boarders and makes us wait a couple of extra weeks in Bali is our a accommodation food and return air fairs covered under this policy I understand you are busy at the moment but I have been trying to contact you by phone everyday this week Thank you Regards Louise
We are only covering any medical expenses that you may incur in the event that you do contract the Coronavirus while travelling overseas and you incur medical expenses due to treatment at a medical facility or medical centre. Not sure if you have the same insurance as us but above is the correspondence I received from Australia post As it turned out our cruise was cancelled and will get refunded and were able to change flights to later in year .Just lost out on a couple of non refundable hotel bookings Hope this helps
Thanks for that
Our flights have been cancelled by the airline, therefore we are unable to reach our destination. Can we claim a refund for our accommodation through our travel insurance policy?
I’m not sure but our airline was happy to reschedule flights to a different time Thanks to Australia post insurance who did get back to me about my policy by email
What is your policy to the corona virus in regards to catching it overseas while on holiday and also to cancelled flights because of the virus. I have a comprehensive international trip annual. Taken out on the 16/11/2019 Regards Joe Mania
Good evening, I’ve downloaded a quote for the International Comprehensive Plan at a cost of $149.00 with cancellation cover of $3000. I’ve tried numerous times to ring but end up on the phone forever with no one answering just being on hold. My trip is to Vietnam and Cambodia commencing 7th May - 21st May, I just want to clarify If due to the current Coronavirus situation our trip is cancelled to circumstances beyond our control am I able to claim for the cost of my trip Regards Elizabeth Melksham
You need to check with your travel agent. If the trip is cancelled because of Aust Govt saying - don’t travel, your travel agent should offer alternative arrangements. Aust post insurance has a disclosure about pandemics including corona virus.
Does the Australian Post Travel Insurance - International Comprehensive Plan cover cancellation of flights due to travel warnings?
