Our 2016 nissan xtrail SUV has air con problems since the second year . The aircon blows hot and cold air when it likes and moves through the auto and inside and outside air when it turns off the cool air? Nissan put German aircon in this model after using a japanese one. Had aircon checked no leaks. 2024/ aircon still not working properly ? Bayside Nissan say we should replace the compressor at $2000 and then recheck? Ridiculous! Have been told to check electrics component only $600 too and then recheck? ReallY? Heat sensor or electrical will get checked. Anyone know in my model what was common fix in the aircon in the states?

I have exactly the same issue, I got it repaired under warranty then once it was out of warranty Nissan wanted nothing to do with it so I payed $1,500 to get it fixed 2 years ago and it’s now doing exactly the same thing again and I have no idea what it could be

Typical xtrail air con every one of them are no good, The problem is in the condensor its leaking gas, so when they replace them they are replacing them with the same condensors with the exact same problem Nissan went from Japanese Nippondenso brand to german manufactures. Nissan just turns a blind eye to it they know what it it is

Same problem with mine, fixed it under warranty, they replace some parts, I think high pressure pipe, but problem came back. then I found out from other xtrail owner that it's a faulty evap sensor. I replaced mine, fairly easy cost $35, no problem since.

Same issue with me. After 3rd year, the air cond is having the same issue as yours. Brought to Nissan service center, they asked me to replace the condenser and it cost a bomb. Then it happened again few months after that, they told me it was a censor/ temperature control. It keeps recurring every now and then. Never ending story...

For people with AC issues, folks in the US are seeking legal avenues to get compensation. See “nissanairconditioningproblem dot com” we need this in Australia!

The North American owners took a class action against Nissan over the X-trail cvt failings and won. They achieved an extended warranty and service bulletin to address this issue. Nissan Australia has not sought to follow suit as they have little customer care and know the likes of VCAT look after them rather than owners

Btw, the second time my aircon went, the first at 80k and second around 100k, I got rid of my x-trail and vowed never to buy another Nissan. Now a Kia Sorrento owner. Service, support, quality, running cost, reliability and warranty leave Nissan for dead. 114 k now on the speedometer with no regrets

When driving for about 20-30 minutes with the Air Con on cooling, the amount of air being blown out of the vents decreases from blowing your head off to something that would be below the lowest fan speed. Nissan have advised that there was a piece of foam that needed replacing as the condenser was freezing up? The highest fan setting remains on, and you can hear it but little air comes out. It went in a second time as the same thing was happening, (2 weeks later) and they advised that the foam has come loose. They said it wouldn't happen again. Well it has occurred again and I'll be taking it in again. Has this occurred for anyone else, and if so, did you get it resolved? Something blocks the vents after a while, starting to p me off!

Hi, did you get it fixed ? Ours is doing the same

Jeff

Our 2015 T32, aircon drops from almost a gale to almost no cold air co.ing out at all, after a trip of around 1hr. Noticed under the bonnet the ac pipe appeared to be frozen. No answer yet from Nissan

danny

common problem with most xtrails faulty air conditioners, Nissan will just Bulls*t about it. 2014-2019 models are the worst. Faulty compressors, leaking seals, ac pipes freezing up. Nissan knows about it.. & have told the dealerships to Bulls*t about it

Thanks Danny, ours is at our local Nissan dealer now, not real hopeful I'll let you know. Cheers

I have the same issue - Nissan dealership said this is not a known issue. How do i get this covered if the car is out of warranty??

Jon
Jon

Any resolution cba81, Dominic? Ours Nissan X Trail is having the same issue after an hour of driving. Warm air coming out at minimal pressure even when on full blast. Makes road trips beyond 1 hour unbearable. You hear the gale noise but there hardly any air coming out. Let me know what you guys find out.

Hi, mine is going back in on 21st Jan, so ill update after that

this is known a issue if nissan tells anyone thats its not they are bullshi****** Nissan have known about it for 5yrs... You just have to do a google search for Nissan xtrail air conditioners. Its all over the internet. Maybe Nissan dosent look at the internet

I have the same issue, I have tried to contact Nissan Australia but they don't return my calls

Craig

Ok, so Nissan have said its a sensor under the dash on passenger side that might be faulty. They showed it having a reading of 18 degrees when the car temp was much more. Apparently not relaying the correct info to something else.. blah blah blah. After having it all day and on idle in the work shop they said they couldn't find fault with it. So I said I'll be back in 30 minutes after i go for a drive. And I was. Was only after I got the things they looked at it. More to come after the sensor is put in.....

Jon
Jon

Thanks cba81. So is it fixed with a new sensor??? or that wasn’t the problem and you’re still waiting for it to be investigated further. Talking to some AC specialist on the phone they said it’s very hard to diagnose. Best to bring it in when the fault trips (hot day 30 mins of driving) so can diagnose faster. Could be 1 of 4 different things.

Another car mechanic friend I go to (non AC specialist) told me it’s the TX Valve (expansion valve) that’s playing up and needs replacing ($150 for the replacement part and can DIY with a good YouTube video) or could be electronic.

Let me know how you go. My problem is exactly the same as yours.

I'm having a similar problem. I haven't taken it to the dealership yet, I'll wait to see your updates

I have had this problem with my 2017 xtrail. First it was the fan cutting out, they fixed it saying something was blocking it. Then about 2 weeks later the cooling part went so had it regased. Then now this summer I have taken it to my local mechanic after having both of the above problems and he couldn't see the problem. Am now taking it to nissan tomorrow... has anyone had it covered under warranty?

Craig
Craig

Not fixed with the new sensor. Apologies for the delayed response, it's really p'd me off. I'm sending them an email now as I don't think a phone call will go down very well. Theyve seen it when the issue is occurring. If the sensor didn't fix it next they said the dash will need to come out so they can get to something else.

I know it may not be easy to diagnose, but it feels like they aren't even trying. Isn't the dealership supposed to be experts in the brand they sell?

Jon
Jon

Any updates CBA81 or others on the progress? Have as one identified the clause / what actually needs to be repaired? IMO Dealership are not the experts. They only service new cars with very few faults (new break pad, engine oil, filter pads, etc) so aren’t exposed to real problems in a car. Called an independent A/C specialist that advised you should drive it until the issue occurs and then bring in for diagnosis? Much easier to pinpoint for the dealership.

Adam

I have same problem. Nissan should have a recall as it is a common fault. Nissan has a faulty product. A two and a half year old car Ac stuffed. How can we take this further?

Craig
Craig

Sorry all, forgot about this. They replaced the sensors and a tube of some description. The AC over summer now cools the way it should. Winter however, it now doesn't heat. Needless to say I no longer go back to the Dealer as they are hopeless. Nor will I buy a Nissan again.

Tony H.

I have the same problem. After driving for 30 ks i continued to the Nissan service shop and they checked it while it was still playing up. There was no icing up they fixed the problem by replacing a faulty "a/c auto amp and code". Cost $350 wich they told me was 1/2 price. This was done in February 2021. 2 weeks ago the problem started again and i am booked for repair at Nissan this month Nov 21. anybody had this problem fixed and it happens again

Trish M.
Trish M.

I had the same problem a couple of months ago with 2016 Ti model, 95,000kms. AC started playing up after 20 mins or so. Took it to a local auto electricial place - A$1,600 + later they replaced the O rings on compressor. Not the first one they'd seen. Last Nissan for me!

Hi guys, I hope this will help your all, in regards to A/c issue and Air circulation switch keeps going off from on position. I have customer the same A/C problem as your’s Nissan QR25 T32 2017, the low pressure pipe become icy, replacing evaporator sensor won’t solve the issue. Some will think it is as the evap. Sensor is responsible to monitor the actual temperature of the evaporator. So that when it reach to the specs. Will send a signal to let the compressor cut off preventing the evaporator become icy. But then if the low pressure pipe from A/C compressor is the one being icy that’s different issue, to make it short please advice your A/c tech or dealership to please check the A/C condenser if block as the factory condenser has a build in receiver drier filter. ( can’t replace the filter alone ) you have to replace the condenser assembly and you’ll have a happy ending cheers hope this will help you guys merry Christmas everyone.
