Ownit Homes Questions & Answers
VerifiedHi there, I would like to know why Ownit Homes only has 6 reviews on this webstie. They have been in business a long time which seems a bit concerning to me as they should be collecting and advertising testimonials at every given chance?
I'm not sure why there are so few reviews. I found them by word-of-mouth through the recommendation of a friend.
I think they may be new to this website. We visited a display home and were treated so well from the first inquiry to hand over.

Hi Steph. We haven't been on ProductReview.com.au as long as some others but have found that as time has progressed, we're certainly gaining momentum. As a local builder too (building between Gold Coast and north Brisbane), we don't mass produce homes either which a lot of our clients like as they receive more personalised attention. I hope you have found more reviews to assist you in your search. Best wishes!
I have noticed they have removed all reviews on their Facebook page. I remember there was a mix of reviews. Most great, but not all were positive.
I've also noticed they've removed all reviews on Facebook page. We're definately some negative experiences which they want to keep quiet. Some good but also some bad. No one is perfect all the time but by removing all feedback good and bad they can pretend they are. A shame not really much feedback at all now
We had the same question when we were looking for the 'right' builder to build our dream home. I directly asked one of their staff why there weren't any reviews for Ownit Homes. I was told (by this particular staff member and it was confirmed by a sales consultant) that Ownit Homes senior management (and the directors) make it their priority to remove any negative reviews as soon as possible, for obvious reasons...business. Good business needs good and bad reviews, that is the only way to improve. Ownit Homes and the board of Directors - Brad and Scott hide behind a handful of good reviews and claim they are the best in the industry. I beg to differ. What you get with Ownit Homes is pretty much anyone's guess and you won't know until construction starts and you've signed on the dotted line. No different to any other builder! I'm not a perfectionist, I don't believe anything is perfect, only close to, but I have built before, know the industry, grown up around builders, tilers, concreters, bricklayers etc, the finishes on our home are terrible. Things we paid extra for such as vanity sinks - scratched/cracked as if they were bought from a second hand yard, feature bricks (paid extra) all chipped (and not small chips which I can understand, these chips can be seen from the road!), skirts look like they've been ripped out of another house and installed in ours. It almost looks like a second hand home and not newly built. I can do a better job my self. And I have done a better job my self! And I'm a girl! Shame Ownit, such a good reputation many years ago that your father has worked hard for only to be ruined by his greedy sons!
Thanks Sandy B. We are 2 thirds of the way through our building with Ownit. We have had a couple of major hiccups which were attended to once I put my foot down and took a stance. I am reserving my full opinion until completion but the process so far has been less than perfect however, I am a realist. Locally in the community I could have quite an impact so I’m hoping for a rosie finish. I will certainly be posting my review on completion for the benefit of others.
Because most of the reviews are written by family members.
They are nice until they know that you don't know what a terrible job they are doing. Once you hold them to rectify the defects, they turns into evils. I had a list over 25 minor and major defects given to them, which after 4 years are still not resolved. The project manager was an evil person, very rude and had absolutely no moral and ethical values. QBCC is a useless agency, mainly on the builder side. Not sure, perhaps that is the culture of the residential construction industry to be cunning. Terrible experience overall.
Hi There
Is it normal for OwnIt to charge or pass on charge as variation for title search for council approval and also variation for Energex meter??
I build two home with another builder and did not do this as variations
I am worried that the Contract Price that has base price has lot missed out and i am in early stages hope i am not taken for a ride
Any response for this will be appreciated
It is very normal for this company to pass on all costs for everything and add builders margin to it as well, we were charged additional lack of access fees by the brickies and the builder added their margin on top of this.
Depends on your contract I think but doesn't sound abnormal. Sounds like Disappointed is working for a competitor!
Sounds like Charles might work for Ownit ??
I got charged for access and brickies too. I'm currently speaking to my lawyer who is prepared to fight this unfair charge.
It may not be a ride you enjoy.
We finished build with Ownit in February 2018, and I note that additional fees for supposed lack of access is a common thread with this builder. Yes we were charged additional for an extra clean-up and additional for lack of access for carpenter. The response to our question of these fees was convoluted and tiring and trying to logically reason with Ownit was as exhausting as pushing concrete uphill. When choosing tiles we were charged $1200 extra for high access fee. When questioned, Ownit blamed the tile company and did us a 'favour' and only charged $600.
Be very wary.
Have been informed of additional cost for access charge also. Builders should be able to best manage their project within set land mass area.
It’s been more than 6 months there after construction support not great
No replies and have to bug
House leaking now just under 1 year for heavy rain
