My issue is that at the time of construction, the slope was not provided in the proper direction in my bathroom, floor water is not draining easily as it will flow in a direction opposite to floor drain outlet/grating. It's leading to water pockets at corners and flooding the rest of the house, I have already flooded my timber floor and carpets in adjacent rooms as a result. I have a 50 year Structural warranty, is this covered? House was built 2016 in South Ripley

Hi JJJ, Can you please email: homeassuranceqld@plantationhomes.com.au with your job ID and address? Home Assurance will be able to advise back on your warranty query with more details. Thank you Carly

I did email them and their response below, very disapponted with it. John, Waste traps to bathrooms are not designed to, or required to have fall towards them. Shower bases are the only wet area that are required to contain fall due to the constant use. The overflow of a bath will be a home owner maintenance job and water that has escaped the bath unit is now an insurance liability, not a builders defect.

Plantation homes cannot assist further on this matter.

Thank you

My issue is, plantation built the bathroom floor, put a drain in the middle with no slope, what was the point of it, they now wash their hands of it completely?

JJJ
JJJ

My expectation was that, they ought to have known, if we are to put a drain, it must have a slope so that water flows to it in the event of any flooding in the bathroom, its too high and water just flows around it, they say its a maintenance issue i must pay for yet its a defect from the build

Hi We built our 2-storey Plantation Home in 2009 and have lived there since then (Forest Lake, QLD). But recently we had to do a major renovation to our three bathrooms - shower areas. Shower wall tile grouts and base tile grout were cracked and water leaked into our ceiling and left a big mouldy mark. And also to our timber floors. Our insurance company advised that the repair cost is not covered under the insurance policy due to the poor grout condition and the water-sealed. I want to know if our house is still under warranty. Thank you Kumari & Lalantha

Plantation Homes
Plantation Homes   DM

Hi Kumari & Lalantha, Thanks for reaching out. If you’ve undertaken renovations, this would not be covered by the original building warranty. On discovering the water proofing issue, the insurer should have referred you to the original builder for remedial works as if you’ve undertaken works without the original builders knowledge, we cannot ascertain whether there was a product failure.

Hope this helps and you’re welcome to discuss further with our Home Assurance team should you have any further questions.

Thank you Carly

Thanks for getting back to us Carly. Our insurance company was pushing us and to be honest, we didn't know our house was still under warranty. My husband has some health issues and the mould on the ceiling wasn't looking good and it was spreading. So we had to find a solution urgently. The insurance company gave the full report of this and it's clearly mentioned this is due to poor grouting and sealing. We have photos to prove it as well.

Hi Kumari, I have passed on this info to Home Assurance and someone from the team will reach out to discuss further. Thank you, Carly

I am building double storehouse, you can go to any display homes to find the price. I guess it would be $500k for 300 m2 for building only.

Hi, We are currently Building a house with you, once of the luxury range in North brisbane. We have ordered an expensive Benchtop and now noticed during practical completion inspection that it has a crack. We do not want it repaired as they can often fall out and stain and crack from that point. Does plantation take responsibility of the product that they have installed. It is pretty upsetting when you spend money and trust in plantation to do a quality job.

Hi, We have issue with cupboards over the range hood, cracking. We raised this issue when we moved in .Frank another guy came to review and other guy .The other said it's fire hazard and should fixed. Frank stated that because we were African and it is due to our cooking. Have emails back and forth with no results. How can l have someone else to come assess

Hi, If I pay a deposit to proceed to contract, can I get a refund if no soil, contour or other works are undertaken to get to contract stage. Land registration is taking longer than we were initially told.

Hi good day. Can I ask for help cause it has been 6 months since the handover but until today the defects on the PCI report hasn't been fix yet. Job no 700329. Is it normal with Plantation homes?

Vimal S.
Vimal S.

Hi Arim. My PCI took a few months too, but I was ok with it because plantation was swamped with work. And non of my PCI items were that critical that it bothered me. I guess it’s not normal for it to go for 6 months, as I believe they need to complete it within about 3 weeks. It’s worth regularly speaking to your construction supervisor, as in this he would be your best friend, if you have a good rapport with him. Hope this helps.

Hi Carly, Good day mate. I tried but no one even reply to my mail. Looks like I am at your mercy whether they will fix it or not. I always try to be friendly as much as I can but no luck. I don't know what to do.

My request was sent last week to Customer Service, admin and Building supervisor but until now I am still waiting for a reply.

In terms of writing reviews, I can see that there are 3 different reviews that can be written in the build journey ; pre-construction, mid-construction and post construction. If a client writes 3 reviews, one for each part of the build journey, do we get 1 x $100 e-gift card or 3 x $100 e gift cards? One for each review??

There is a fear that many builders will be broke due to rising costs and labour. What is the financial position of Plantation homes ?

Rachel A.

I don’t work for them so I don’t know

Plantation Homes
Plantation Homes   DM

Hi Checking2022, Thanks for your question. The building industry is having some challenges at the moment, with a slowdown in build times and a large increase in construction costs (since March 2021).

The good news is - we are a local builder, backed by Sumitomo Forestry – a 330 year old business that has accumulated savings (equity) on its balance sheet of around $7 billion Australian dollars.

You can have the confidence that we will finish your home, no matter what.

Kind Regards, Carly

I am considering engaging Plantation Homes to build the Valetta 2 story design at my block on the Sunshine Coast. The reviews I have read suggest that overall build quality is OK and site supervision is good. However, customer service and post-construction customer service can be appalling and slow. Am I better off dealing with head office staff at Springwood or staff at the display villages? And can anyone recommend a conscientious staff member(s) at Plantation Homes. I have recently been through a nightmare experience with a Canberra builder and am keen to avoid working with rude and ineffectual staff. Darren

Hi Darren, Thanks for reaching out with your question. We strive to provide 5-star service from the moment a customer makes contact, right through their build journey and after they move into their new home with our 50 year structural guarantee and 12 month maintenance check. We pride ourselves on our collective team effort. Please email us at customercare@plantationhomes.com.au and I will have a New Home Consultant contact you directly.

Can you change the floor plan of plantation home, the outline remains the same , just some room configuration changes want to make?

Marilyn A.
Marilyn A.

You can change some things but everything comes at a cost. Make sure you know all their costs upfront. We found it difficult to get a firm price on some things and our build cost several thousand more than our original contract. For example, we did not want gas appliances and the exchange cost was quite excessive - we could have purchased the electric appliances at a retail store for the extra cost charged, but we did not get credit on not having installed a gas line or on the gas appliances. Some things we could not understand. The communication side of things was quite difficult as they have their systems in place and they won't deviate.

We are thinking to knock down and new build with Plantation Homes in Brisbane. Is there any thing I should know. Thanks

Marilyn A.
Marilyn A.

Our build went well but be aware that you need to sort out every detail before you agree. We had a few variations we weren't happy with and also expected features we saw in the display home that we didn't get. We were told later they were upgrades and these things were not mentioned during consultation process. We have been left with a lot of waste concrete on site that we have no means of moving so be sure everything is clear upfront. Double check desired window sizes so you can buy standard curtains and blinds. We are having to pay to get custom blinds as standard ones from Spotlight won't fit. The early stages of planning and appointments is extremely slow and communication is lacking. However we have ended up with a lovely home and everyone who sees our home really loves it. Interestingly, we have had a number of tradies doing further work on our home and most agree that Plantation do build a nice home. We have compared our home with other builders and we do feel we have a quality home. Hope this helps.

I won’t recommend them. Bad communication, staff changes too often and post construction support is nil. We had several issues and still struggling to get any help from them. Being a big builder they don’t care once last instalment hits there account!!

We have been very pleased with our Plantation Home which is in the Western Suburbs of Brisbane. It is now about twelve years old. It has two covered verandas on either side. We were thinking of building a room over the footprint of one of the verandas to provide an additional bedroom and en-suite to the upper level. We were wondering whether Plantation has any comments on this idea and whether they do this type of work or if not have they any recommended builders who could do this work.
