sometimes when the fridge door closes, the pressure from it makes the freezer door pop open but only a few mm - so sometimes you may not notice, and it’s not enough to set off the open door alarm, so they freezer will defrost or get condensation in it. Also it doesn’t auto-close itself! All fridges I’ve had in past if you leave open, the door will start to pull itself shut. This one doesn’t do that. It stops before fully closing and again - it’s not closed so letting cold air out, but it’s close enough that it doesn’t set the door alarm off. Frustrating!

We bought this fridge in 2021, and four and a half years later, after paying nearly a thousand dollars for what we assumed was a top fridge with a… Read more

good guarantee, it stopped working. After alot of phone calls to LG Customer Care and deciding to get the fridge independently assessed by a good reliable fridge repair service centre we knew what was the fault, a long slow leak of the gas over many months and so it would need regassing and a very thorough gas leak repair to repair it at the source. We spent a few weeks doing our homework about all of this and realised that even though LG said if its a fridge fault we'd be covered with a warranty if they said no it isn't its due to a power outage or hot weather (which had not affected the fridge in its 4 or more years). Due to a lack of trust with what LG staff said and did and realising they could charge us for the call out fee up to $200 and that their repair may just patch it up like regas but not take it away to a workshop to fix it, we decided not to go through LG, would be like gambling our money we may need for a new fridge. We spoke to a good fridge repair mechanic who said I can repair it but will cost between $600-$800. So we knew this was nearly the cost of a new fridge with a 3-5 yr warranty. We have learnt so much now about fridges and the ins and outs of all of this type of thing. After reading the reviews here that helped us to make the best choice. We had no fridge for a week and half just putting our food on ice, chucked out heaps, got a new hire fridge for a few weeks until we bought a new fridge after listening to what brands are good and this one has a service centre here in Melbourne and Australian staff, not out sourced, even LG outsource their repairs we discovered. So hope this review helps someone else. We did not expect to fork out nearly a thousand dollars again for a new fridge within five years, our last fridge went for over 20 years. Buyer beware in this day and age. Buy from a store that if you have a problem will go into bat for you, like the John Alan Betta Home Living Store at Ferntree Gully in Melbourne who are excellent and good prices too, gave us alot of help and information. Sorry about the tome, it was nearly a months journey through this. Sadly our in perfect condition fridge apart from the gas leak has been picked up and taken to be made into scrap metal. Which happens to tons of very good fridges not made to last deliberately and the consumer pays the hefty price. What a waste.

Very disappointing, definitely will stir away from the brand for future.

properly, leaving all laundry soaking wet. This has been happening consistently and has caused damage to my clothes.

This issue has been ongoing for over a year, and despite this, it has not been resolved. The machine has undergone three separate repair attempts by authorised technicians, including full troubleshooting and multiple parts replacements, yet the same problem continues.

I have also had to rearrange my work schedule multiple times to attend these repair visits, resulting in lost income. In addition, some of my laundry has been damaged due to the ongoing fault.

What is most concerning is that despite repeated contact with LG, there has been no effective resolution. I have received multiple phone calls asking for the same information repeatedly, but no actual outcome has been delivered.

At this point, it is clear that the product has a major failure, and the issue has not been resolved within a reasonable time.

I would not recommend this product based on my experience.

the doors meant taller bottles and items could only go into this section. If you go for the slimline versions think about the height problem inside. The lack of stars in the review is because it only lasted 5 years and then conked out. No benefit in trying to fix as would be half the cost of a new fridge. Short life of appliances seems to be an LG issue these days (same with an LG washing machine we had - victim there of LG's woeful customer service). We would not trust anything from LG now.

2 people, I store soup, veges, a.whole bag of ice in summer and rubbish at the bottom. The rotating ice tray is handy. Extendable fridge shelf is useful. Water Dispenser: In summer we add half ice on top of the water and then have blizzardly cold water to drink. (Ice first may block the dispenser). Cons: only a couple and fairly minor. The water box gets dirty quick so I wash it out with hot water every couple weeks. Possibly due to commercial ice as we use filtered clean water. The dispenser will drip to the floor if you take the glass/bottle away too soon. Just a habit I had to learn. Noise: I don't think it's noticeable at all. The inside does seem to have a gentle hum. But hey, it's inverted ... it won't be silent. The motor is on the top of fridge so will be more noticeable by tall people with good hearing.

warranty ended. Followed troubleshooting and contacted LG support who wanted to initiate a service call. This expensive fridge was purchased to replace a fridge that failed. The LG fridge was not purchased by choice but out of necessity as there was a major shortage of appliances at the time due to shipping difficulties. We paid more than we were prepared to pay as a result. I am in awe of LGs ability to design an appliance that fails so soon after the warranty ended. I feel that to pay $$$$ to fix this piece of junk is money that could be spent on a more reliable appliance. In future I will give LG a very wide berth. Product is designed to fail. Junk junk junk.

I hadn’t intended to spend that much but in the end l got a good price and bought it. I decided on the LG 4 door in fingerprint free black. I was sceptical about the fingerprint free side of it but it actually works, happy about that. Total of fridge is 530lts which is very adequate. I love l can see where everything is, same as freezer so long l don’t pack it too much. I have no negatives about this fridge but it would have been nice if it had narrow drawers incorporated in the fridge for small goods. I’ve had the fridge for 3 months now and would definitely recommend it. It’s 5 star rating.

TLDR - 4.5 stars - very good - That being said, we are currently only 4 months in to ownership and lots can change over time. We also have had no… Read more

modern fridge to compare it against.

Competition - If Mitsubishi had a Japanese made fridge with plumbed ice and water, we likely would have purchased that instead based on that brand's excellent reviews even though it likely would have been significantly more expensive.

Dimensions - installed, our fridge is 178cm high, and 91cm wide. (You will want additional air gaps of 4+ cm on each side and above)

Price - we paid $1,888 in the black friday sales (Nov 2024) for this fridge from Retravision which included basic delivery to Brisbane.

Review - Overall, we really like this fridge and wish we had purchased a plumbed fridge far sooner. I personally prefer this fridge's side-by-side (freezer on left, fridge on right) design, compared to the french door fridge. The fact that the side-by-side is roughly half the cost of the french door equivalent makes for a compelling argument as well! I also like the fact that this fridge has switched back to a supposedly more reliable traditional 'smart' inverter versus the linear compressor - though this likely comes with a higher energy consumption.

The fridge is very good, but has a few quirks which I will enumerate below:

1) The supplied water filter which connects inline between water supply tap and the fridge is completely external, and is roughly the size of a 400ml water bottle. It is recommended to replace it every 6 months. We were able to hide the filter above the fridge in a cabinet and drill access holes for the water lines, along with an access port that enables us to turn off the water supply in order to replace the filter. The fridge is big and the last thing you want to be doing is having to pull out the fridge from its cavity every 6 months - so good access to the filter and the ability to easily turn off the water supply is paramount.

2) Water/ice dispenser has no drip or catch tray, and particularly when dispensing ice, be prepared to have a cloth handy to wipe up spills. I suspect the area immediately around the dispenser will rust over time.

3) There is only very limited cold water on hand at any time - the fridge does not have a cold water reservoir, and the amount of 'cold'-ish water on hand would be equivalent to the small volume in its internal plumbing. With that being said, you should have plenty of ice available in potentially 3 different forms: crushed, cubed, and the large craft/cocktail ice balls.

4) The large craft/cocktail ice balls that form each day are deposited in to a plastic draw at the top of the freezer. Unlike most fridge/freezer draws that traditionally have tabs or a lip to prevent inadvertently ejecting the whole draw when softly pulling at it, no such mechanism exists for this ice draw. It thus requires a bit of extra care to ensure the draw and/or its contents are not dropped.

I hope this review helps others and will update it accordingly should any problems arise.

18 Aug LG promised a replacement

5 Sept still NO replacement

This fridge is completely useless:

No water comes out

No ice is produced

Fridge section has no cooling at all

Freezer stopped working, everything defrosted and spoiled

LG’s customer service is a disgrace. They waste time with excuses, give out wrong information, and keep forcing pointless repairs instead of owning up to their faulty product.

How can a brand-new fridge break in under 2 weeks, and then more than 6 weeks later still no replacement? Meanwhile, I’ve had to live without a working fridge, throw away spoiled food, and deal with endless stress chasing them up.

This is by far the worst customer service I’ve ever experienced in Australia. Save yourself the time, money, and frustration – DO NOT buy LG appliances.

What a fridge/freezer! I love it. Had it for six weeks and it is doing exactly what it is supposed to. This replaced a similar plumbed 900mm-wide LG… Read more

that was (well) over 15 years old (came with the house). I would never have bought a plumbed fridge but I couldn't live without it now. After my one cup of tea in the morning I have iced water all day (in TAS). We paid $1992 in September 2025 (got Appliances Online to match a JBHiFi price) and got the stainless steel to match our other appliances (all Bosch).

At 635L the interior of this fridge seems huge. I have two half hams of 6kg each plus the perishables from neighbours who were going away and there is still plenty of room. The shelves in the doors are almost twice as deep as the old fridge meaning you can fit plenty of tall bottles, and on the freezer side I am no longer worrying that I will break the plastic when the bagged meat gets wedged in when it freezes. The 2L milk used to be a snug fit but now it rattles around, I have ballasted it with the butter to keep the milk upright. Likewise I have a few bottles of tonic that I don't need cold but they stop the other tall bottles from falling over. We have put two baskets on the top shelf for cheese and similar smaller items to make the most of the generous shelf height. Might upgrade these to plastic containers with lids because there are no closed-in spaces in the fridge other than the two vege drawers (the old fridge had a specific cheese drawer hung under the top shelf that was really handy, and a lid on the top shelf of the door where I keep garlic, ginger, and suchlike). I put those things in small plastic boxes now.

The freezer is what you would expect with two large drawers at the bottom (one slightly smaller to accommodate the motor). Our freezer used to be packed whereas now there is plenty of room, even after he won the local meat tray last night (and the veggie tray but he gave that back because we won it last week). The whole thing fridge really solid, and it is a *lot* quieter than the old fridge. The stainless steel finish (can't speak for the black) is excellent, leaving no finger marks on the surface. The shelves are made of glass (my partner dropped one and nearly had a heart attack). I have calculated (using Aurora+) that the fridge is saving us over $0.30 per day in electricity, and that was before we changed the fridge to 4 degrees C (rather than 3) and the freezer to -17 (rather than -18) degrees C because some of the veges in the bottom drawer of the fridge were freezing.

The ice maker takes up relatively little room because it is smaller than the old fridge, but it makes ice fast enough to keep up with me. Some complain that the crushed ice dispenser is a little generous with where the ice goes (potentially all over the place); you can always use a little jug or similar with a wider lip to catch the ice, but I live with the collateral. The fridge comes with a water filter and you can fit it to the plumbed water supply at the back. I have an inline filter in my pantry and so I will continue to change the filter there so I don't have to pull the fridge out (but it is not difficult to roll out and back). Fridge filters are a mystery, I have to remember how to do it each time, but that is not a criticism of this fridge because our filter is independent.

One downside: the doors open in such a way that it takes up a lot more room when the door is open than the advertised width of the fridge. The bottom drawer of both the fridge and freezer are full-depth and require the door(s) to be wide open (at least 170 degrees) before you can pull the drawer out. This would be an issue if you have a built-in space tight around the fridge and the fridge was fully recessed. The solution would be to have the fridge pulled out slightly (the door-depth or about 10cm clear of the surrounding enclosure) or to make the enclosure bigger. Our neighbours had to do the latter when they got a similar LG fridge five years ago.

I haven't tried the app yet because it needs access to the 2.4Ghz signal and that means telling our wifi to temporarily broadcast in 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz so that we can set the fridge (and new Bosch series 4 dishwasher) up. Haven't got around to it yet but I am not sure that I would want to change the fridge settings often (the stats might be interesting). The delivery guys had to use our front gate to get the fridge through (the back gate was too narrow), although it could have been taken off the dolly and manually shuffled through sideways.

I loved everything about our old fridge but the plumbed water started coming out of the freezer door (rather than the water dispenser) and so it was on its way out after what I would guess was 20 years. We had it repaired twice. I am thrilled to have got a new one so similar and so much bigger inside (the outside footprint is more or less the same except for the increased space needed to open the doors). I would really recommend this but pay attention to the space comments.

cooling is very even, no freezing of vegetables, no frost build up, very quiet and still looks new, brush SS finish. Looking inside I instantly saw that there was a buildup of dust over the two grills that lead to the fan and radiator, so I cleaned them with a brush, vacuum, and even my compressed air. This needs to be done annually people, or the compressor will become very inefficient. One copper pipe joint had corrosion on it, which may indicate a leak?? So I wire brushed it and covered it in JB Weld epoxy to be sure it won't leak. So I am happy with the fridge and I wanted to share this maintenance advice, remove dust from grill, or even remove the grill entirely

3 weeks and the fridge works beautifully. It is pretty quiet and seems to cools/freezes evenly and consistently. The size is great for a tight space, but with air vents on the side, you need to make sure to have enough side space i.e. minimum 5cm. The sides of fridge even heats up during the initial cooling. If there is not enough space to swing the door open further, the crisper can't fully slide out. It is also annoying there is only 2 door shelves but at least they are pretty big. As I try not to block any of the multiple air vents to enjoy its Multi Air Flow feature, it does reduce the usable space available especially for the freezer. Now looking back, I wished I purchased the slightly larger GT-2S which isn't that much more expensive on special and Choice.com.au gave GT-2S model 68% expert score compare to GT-1S's 66% scoree. GT-1S is 5% lower on temperature evenness and 2% less on response to outside temperature score. Finally despite the stainless steel exterior is brushed, water marks and finger marks are still a bit of a problem.
