If I request a quote for two travellers and pay the premium displayed on-line, does it actually fully cover BOTH travellers without any increase in the cost of the premium? Thank you

We are going on a European river cruise, and on some policies we do not need to take out cruise add on option. Is this the case with Southern Cross? Thanks, Rod

Southern Cross Travel Insurance
Southern Cross Travel Insurance   DM

Hi Rod. Thanks for your question. We offer an optional cruise cover add-on to our International Comprehensive policy which covers unexpected events that happen when you are taking a cruise on your journey, as per section D.13 of our Product Disclosure Statement. We recommend you check that this cover is right for your needs if you are intending on taking a cruise on your trip. Take care - Claire@SCTI.

There has been a lot of reports of people falling while of holidays and because they have had a drink they are not covered. I have looked at your manual and it is not clear. What do you deem as under the influence

Wendy
Wendy

In all my years of getting insurance(multiple different companies) it has always been the case that if you are under the influence of alcohol and something happens then they can refuse the claim. The same as if you hire a scooter in say Bali and don't have a valid motorcycle licence Australia then they can refuse any claim arising from incidents. I would call SCTI and confirm.

Southern Cross Travel Insurance
Southern Cross Travel Insurance   DM

Hi Lyn. Thanks for your question about being under the influence of alcohol. On page 92 of your policy document, we have a general exclusion, that falls under the heading, ‘You putting yourself in danger’, number E.31 which outlines alcohol usage. We will always look at each claim on a case-by-case basis. In this situation of a fall, we would look to compare it to how likely the fall would have happened if a reasonable person who was not under the influence were to have had the fall. If the influence of alcohol and being reasonably intoxicated was the main reason the fall happened, then we would consider applying the general exclusion. Take care - Claire@SCTI.

I have been comparing your personal liability amount of $1 million each person with other policies that offer $5 million each person. Is $1 million sufficient coverage? I cant see anywhere that I can increase it? Thanks

Sorry I wouldn’t know, I’m a customer of SCTI, I don’t work for them.

Hi Nat. Thanks for your question. We don't currently offer an option to increase this amount, but we appreciate your feedback. $1 million is generally considered sufficient for personal liability. Take care- Claire@SCTI.

Thanks Claire, whilst your company has impressive reviews, I was worried that your company doesnt cover personal liability in the motorcycle/moped extra cover.

How to obtain "a valuation that’s less than 24 months old at the time you specify the item on your policy". How about in the case of mobile phone 12 months and older?

Southern Cross Travel Insurance
Southern Cross Travel Insurance   DM

Hi Mia. Thank you for your question. If you have a receipt for the phone that is less than 24 months old, you could use this as proof of value. If older than 24 months, you can ask for a valuation from a mobile phone store. For a further explanation on providing proof of value for a specified item please call us on 1800 196 484 or use our live chat through our website. All the best, Hugo@SCTI.

Could you please explain 'Excess $100' ? Thanks

Southern Cross Travel Insurance
Southern Cross Travel Insurance   DM

Hi Kim. Thank you for your question. An excess is the amount we subtract from the claims we pay where an excess applies. For example, if a $350 claim has a $100 excess that applies, we would pay $250. Thanks, Hugo@SCTI

Hi there, I'm looking at getting a policy for an upcoming trip and my main concern is covering my luggage including camera equipment, a tablet and a watch - all of which fit within the individual item and total value limits. However, they were all purchased secondhand. How can I prove my ownership of them in the event of them being stolen or damaged? Thanks :)

Southern Cross Travel Insurance

Hi Mitchael. Thank you for your interest in our travel insurance :) Our policy wording suggests a receipt as an example of proof of ownership. For more information about proving ownership of secondhand items, please send us an email at info@scti.com.au or call us on 1800 196 484. Thanks, Hugo@SCTI

Hi Tasneem. Thank you for your question. Without knowing more, it sounds like this could be a pre-existing. To be sure, please read the definition of what we consider a pre-existing medical condition to be in the definitions section found at the end of the policy wording. Alternatively, you can email our service team at info@scti.com.au. All the best, Matt@SCTI

Hi, We are booked on a Rhine river cruise from Amsterdam to Budapest in October. Does this require the cruise package or are we covered under your Travelcare policy as some other companies do? For example if we were quarantined in our cabin would we be covered the same as if we were quarantined in a hotel room.

Southern Cross Travel Insurance
Southern Cross Travel Insurance   DM

Hi Judy. Our TravelCare policy includes cruise cover without the need to select an add-on. All the same sections of the policy apply when you are on a cruise as they would on any other type of trip. We do update our policies from time to time so please check in case this changes in the future. Our policy is only intended to cover financial loss. If the quarantine in your cruise room due to being diagnosed with COVID-19 does not result in lost prepaid expenses or any additional costs, there would be no cover. If you are interested in learning more about our COVID-19 cover, here is a link to our COVID-19 FAQs: external link . Thanks, Matt@SCTI

Hello. I want to buy international travel insurance with snow ski cover. I have read your PDS and can see that 'off-piste' is not covered - which is normal. However, I cannot find your definition of 'off-piste'. Some insurers state that off-piste is anything off a groomed run. Others state that it is anything beyond resort boundaries. Can you please provide your definition. Most resorts have 'cat runs' which link groomed runs, and ungroomed, skiable terrain within resort boundaries. I want to know we would be covered for that.

Southern Cross Travel Insurance
Southern Cross Travel Insurance   DM

Hi Dani. Thank you for your question. We consider off-piste as skiing or snowboarding in the backcountry on unmarked or unpatrolled areas either inside or outside of a ski resort’s boundary. This can include ungroomed black runs and designated ski areas/tracks.

I have written a couple of emails to info@scti.com.au, and still no reply. It seems this is the platform where I can expect response.

As I'm still waiting for a response to my email, which is much longer than expected. In the meantime, based on my last experience, I bought the policy prior to my travel. Whereby I had to pay for additional days for which I will return to Australia. Please advise me on how the policy will cover me from when I return to Australia in early Jan 23 till my family returns later in the month (the cover period), as I have been charged the full premium for myself also.

Hopefully, I will receive a response soon.

Hello, Just wondering if we are travelling with another couple (My sister and her Husband) on a Cruise to NZ and our booking is linked with Royal Carribean and the trip was intended we were travelling together. If one of us gets unwell and one couple has to cancel can the other couple cancel as well as This planned holiday was intended for all 4 of us. Janny

Southern Cross Travel Insurance
Southern Cross Travel Insurance   DM

Hi Janny. Thanks for reaching out to ask this question. For those on the same policy, yes. For those on a separate policy, then only if the situation meets some additional requirements. You can read these in full on page 47. Essentially a traveling companion on a separate policy or a family member are what we term as a relevant person. Should a relevant person die, be admitted to a hospital, be put in end stage palliative care or be diagnosed with a terminal conditions/require radiotherapy or chemotherapy then yes you can claim on your policy for cancellation or changes to your journey. Thanks, Matt@SCTI

Thank you Matt, I'm thinking my Sister and her hubby would be considered relevant person's as our cruise was intended to be together and part of the same cruise party. More questions.... R/e Covid Is Contracting covid on ship covered for all medical and if required evacuation? Also e. g if I were diagnosed with covid before getting on ship and confirmed by a Dr, and our trip had to be cancelled can I and the travelling party /relevant person's claim any losses that is inccurred and not refundable up to the nominated amount. Janny

Hi, we are a family of 5 but only one of our children still qualifies as a dependent, so I believe we have to take out 2 polices 1 for my husband, myself and our 20 yr old, the other for our 21yr old and 23 yr old. My questions is if 1 of us can't go due to a covid diagnoses or a last minute medical issue are we all covered to cancel or only the people on the same policy. (We intend to spend the whole trip together). I guess the other question is if one of us gets covid while away and has to rearrange the journey due to isolating again are we all covered for the cost of changing the arrangements or only the others on that policy?

Southern Cross Travel Insurance
Southern Cross Travel Insurance   DM

Hi Sandra. Thanks for reaching out to understand how traveling as a group with two policies. There is only cover for others under the same policy to cancel or amend their travel arrangements overseas. The exception to this is if the affect person is considered a relevant person (a family member or a traveling companion on another policy) and that one of our four requirements apply to their situation such as being admitted to hospital. You can read more about these relevant person conditions on page 47 and 54 of our policy wording found online. Thanks, Matt@SCTI

When signing up and choosing the number of travellers, if I choose 2 is SCTI assuming that it's cover for a couple?

I'll be travelling with my Dad and I'm wondering whether I can do that on 1 policy or have to do 2 individual policies.

Southern Cross Travel Insurance

Hi Troy. You can have two adults covered under one policy and they do not need to be a couple. You are welcome to be on the same policy with your father if you are travelling together.
