call customer service which I did only to find that apparently even though card is used like a bank debit card they can’t/wont cancel it or reissue a new one as your bank would and that whoever’s hands it falls into has the fortune of spending it. How a name as big as VISA can have no protection on their gift cards for loss or damage and the inability to issue a new one if full funds are still on there is beyond me. It’s a half arsed ploy to make money with no security or protection offered if something goes wrong. Customer service not even based in this country, so loud I could barely hear the person on the phone and the line cut out twice. Asked to speak to supervisor who wasn’t even available and never called back. Even website to activate card was constantly experiencing system errors and took more than 5 attempts on different days to activate it. Truely disappointing for such a big name and basically a scam!! Better off giving the person cash!

back on how to use them….i had to google instructions online to figure out you use the last 4 digits on the front as the pin….basic info like that could’ve easily been added on the the back of the card! A lot of customers have valid cards that have money on them (they show the current balance online) however the cards still decline. People can’t get into contact with head office and emails go unanswered…. Just seems like visa/ vanilla are cashing up from vouchers that aren’t valid half the time. Strongly recommend not using these cards!!!

unfortunately, unlike other giftcards you need to activate it by a certain date, otherwise they cancel your funds. They also don't give you three years to spend the money like other vouchers. I contacted their customer service, which has an autoreply that they will reply within 1 business day, which was a lie. I had to follow up a number of times to get a reply. In the end they refunded me only $35 as a goodwill gesture, and I only had 10 days to spend the funds. This company is a scam

exchanging another general gift card to use at Village (Village requires you to exchange general gift cards to specific E-Vouchers in order to use them at Village), it is easily the most complicated and absolute worst process ever. There aren’t any clear or straightforward instructions at any point, you hit issue after issue (eg. Continuous errors attempting to enter and redeem voucher codes) or their system just gives you nothing at all and won’t allow you to proceed. Customer service is even worse, impossible to access, unhelpful, unapologetic and they take far too long to respond. If and when they do, I haven’t found them to be helpful or interested in my issues and queries. There isn’t any clear information informing customers that all vouchers take at least 24hrs to be activated in their system either, so if by some miracle you happen to get to the point where their website and system actually recognises your voucher, you’re unable to use it straight away and village don’t seem to think this is important to mention. Many of their vouchers and deals don’t even last the minimum 3 years before expiry, with most expiring after 12 months. I have always preferred village over other cinemas but after so many poor and terrible experiences, it’s clear they don’t care about customer support or satisfaction.

'participating' restaurants and was told at the end of a very expensive meal that the restaurant did not accept Gourmet Traveller gift cards (silly me, I didn't think to check with the restaurant BEFORE we booked! Naively assumed if they are listed as participating, that they would honour the gift card that has already been paid for). Learnt my lesson so contacted another 8 restaurants to check if I can redeem my voucher before booking, cannot find one we can travel to! To Gourmet Traveller, update your restaurants list as it is very misleading. To any potential buyer of gift cards, do not waste your money, the recipient will only be left disappointed.

I contacted Paypal as I had made my payment through them and on May 16, 2025 the card was delivered to my sister's email. I have called the help line on 24 January 2026 and get someone in India and I was told a replacement card will be issued in 30 business days. I was given a case number and have followed my card with 7 phone calls as the replacement card was never issued. They need your whole online identity just to release a card you've already paid for. If you need a card after hours or on a weekend, stay far away this company is the definition of not fit for purpose.
