The Sunbeam Kyoto Kettle and Toaster range is aesthetically appealing and positioned as a premium offering. However, the overall build quality does… Read more

not align with its price point.

The kettle raises safety concerns. On several occasions, the lid has unexpectedly popped open during boiling. If left unattended, the kettle continues to boil until manually switched off or the lid is closed. This appears to be from the lid’s construction, primarily plastic, including the latch, with a painted finish rather than aluminium on the exterior.

Additionally, the lower section of the handle, which is covered by a plastic casing, has expanded and detached. It will become impossible to refit properly. Since then, the kettle has begun leaking water onto the power base, presenting a clear safety hazard.

As for the toaster, while I have not experienced any functional defects, it feels relatively cheap in construction. The top surface is not aluminium but a painted, heat-resistant finish that is prone to discolouration and can't be easily cleaned.

After just over a year of use, the longevity of both appliances appears questionable. Given the recurring feedback online regarding lid failures and leakage issues, it is surprising that Sunbeam has not issued a recall or formally addressed these concerns.

Purchase online via Myers in September 2024 - I'm not expecting them to provide any solutions based on previous reviews.

missing its filter described at page 4, although there was a notch for it. I contacted Sunbeam, & was told they couldn't post me one & was given a return number. I went to a different Good Guys store and was in the process of swapping it over, when I discovered the new kettle had the same problem - missing filter. I asked if they would ring their Sunbeam rep, but instead was connected again to Customer service who told me to try another store, I asked could they send me the filter, but they had no parts & don't know anything more. The call centre was overseas & couldn't connect me to a supervisor or Sunbeam here, who designed it in Australia. Yes, I could get my money back, but I want this model of kettle. Have they changed the design or has the factory not told Sunbeam they haven't the part when assembling it? Has there been a design change and no change made to the handbook? If it's in the handbook, I just want what is described. I'm sure I will not be the last person to have this problem if 2 stores have missing filters. I would like Sunbeam to know of the problem and resolve it, but I can't get past their Customer service!

looking and I was pleased with the light weight and fast boiling action. However I had to descale this kettle every week to remove brown stains on the base. I believe Sunbeam have used thinner metal on the base to make the kettle lighter, and this is getting too hot and causing the base to stain inside. Item has since been returned, and I will stick with the Bella Aqua for the moment. Shame because I liked this kettle.

currently about 4 months old and the silver coating on parts of the kettle, near the water gauge has already shown some fine cracking and there is one piece that's fallen off....4 months! These items are so ridiculously expensive in shops generally and we only picked a very medium-priced set, however should we expect the machine to show wear signs and coating failures after four months? Our last kettle lasted 6 years with little marks or paint damage! More 'quality' products out in the market and would have expected better from Myer products and Sunbeam!

DON'T BUY A SUNBEAM MAESTRO KE9750 – What an absolute shocker of a kettle. Do not buy one of these pieces of appalling design before you actually try to use one. For a start, it is… Read more

ridiculously heavy, and the hand design so bad that you need two hands to pick it up safely with just a cup full of water in it. With 1.7L of water in it, it's just too heavy, especially for senior adults and anyone not built like a weightlifter. Then, when you go get it up and over to a cup, the spout is: a) so badly angled that you need to tip it a long way over before it pours, b) and then when your hands, trembling with the load and the high amount of twist in your wrist, do get it over a cup, the spout is wide and flat rather than coming to a narrow vee, so the water goes everywhere, first one side of the spout and then the other, generally missing the cup. This is pure design prettiness over actual functionality. It's almost completely useless, except it can boil water. So can a saucepan and this is slightless less functional than that. If you need to boil water, either use a saucepan or buy another make of kettle, but whatever you do, DON'T BUY A SUNBEAM MAESTRO KE9750

action. A real 5 star performer, that one.

The obvious problems - the water level window is on the left hand side. I'm not sure if you can buy "left handed kettles" ... but this sure feels like it. We would always hold the kettle with left hand, and fill from our rainwater tap with the right, watching the water level right there in the middle of the kettle. Since we're not contortionists, now we have to do the opposite which feels completely unnatural to us. Maybe it's simply that we'd become accustomed to the old one, but checking with the 3 other kettles we own of mixed brands across a couple of properties, 2 have their water level in the middle, and one has it on the right.

So maybe Sunbeam is hoping to start a whole new trend here. If we'd realised this we would have bought a different model.

Secondly, and painfully, the markings on the water level scale are displayed simply as raised indentations in the plastic. No paint. So there is zero contrast to distinguish the markings from the background. This makes it hard to easily judge the level, especially all bleary eyed in the morning, or if there's condensation in the window!! Again reference to the 3 other mixed origin kettles we own confirms all have their levels painted on.

Sunbeam ... you trendsetters. Wish we'd examined this damned Quantum before purchasing ... so we'd have realised it ain't "right for us"!

This one takes a noticeably longer time to boil too ... and once boiling it stays boiling for a lot longer before the auto shut-off activates. Probably doesn't bother most, but we generate our own power, so every watt matters, especially with an appliance that uses 2200 of them!

Oh well, it boils water, it's stainless, and the stupid plastic filter in the spout is removable. That's all we need it to do. Jeez we miss that Peace and Quiet though ...

boil and at times even when switched off, there is a 'ding' sound like when it switches off. The toaster works well but unfortunately the toast is not evenly toasted. This is why I have only given 4 stars. One side is always lighter than the other side and if you like even toast then it is hit and miss to turn the bread around. There are various settings options and when I have cooked crumpets these need a second toasting too so again it is hit and miss for a good toast finish. The top of the toaster does get hot and there is a warning but the sides of the toaster are relatively safe to touch. The kettle does get hot as it is stainless steel, and both products do show finger marks but generally are easy to clean. Being an older person I found it easy to lift the kettle when necessary. Overall the products are worth what you pay and in the three months of use I am satisfied with both toaster and kettle.

years from purchase. 22 months approx. Of course the warranty is 12 months but Sunbeam has a commitment to quality so I decided to contact them for a replacement as a consumer I would expect a kettle to last longer. The cosmetic features eg. black coating on the kettle had started wearing earlier compared to the toaster which had no coating flaking issues, but didn't bother as kettle was working then also the numbers on the water level gauge had worn within a few months. Once kettle failed to switch on, I contacted Sunbeam who admitted product is faulty and out of warranty period they are not able to offer a replacement. Then they write "I would have loved to replace the product for you as I would love you to continue using the product but our system does not allow me to do so". Therefore they are just brushing me off and are not prepared to resolve the issue. Very poor customer service imo. I will not be purchasing another Sunbeam appliance in future. Very disappointing.

positive I can say! First of all, it is VERY noisy! We have trouble carrying on a conversation near it. Secondly, The on/off switch has a white LED in it which lights up as if it were to light the MCG at night! No sneaky cuppa late at night if you have people sleeping! Thirdly, the little filter inside the spout fell out one day, no biggie just snap back in, right? WRONG! Took ages to fiddle and turn it and finally it went back into place. Sheesh. Fourthly, and this IS a biggie, and a safety issue. it gets SUPER HOT! Be warned!!! I have burned myself several times forgetting that. My previous kettle was a thicker plastic and it would be warm to hot but not dangerously so. I am serious about this. It is very easy to grab a kettle by the body to go fill up, many people do that, if someone else used it and you weren't aware, YOU WILL BURN your hands! My previous kettle I would touch to see if it were still warm to hot to use the water my friend had boiled for my own cuppa. Ain't doing that no more, well, yeah, making a cuppa with the heated water but not the touching part! So if you wear gloves like in [Content Removed] and are [Contents Removed], it's great! Joke. Seriously: Don't buy it.
