pure shock at the lack of basic professional standards here. I went in a blonde with one very clear, specific rule: stay blonde, do not go brown. I even made sure they understood it. I walked out with dark brown, muddy, chemically fried hair.

​It’s the lack of care that gives you the ick. To sit in a chair and be so clear about your identity, only for a "professional" to do the exact thing you told them would ruin your self-esteem, is honestly creepy. It felt like they weren't even listening to the person in the chair.

​The worst part is the damage. My hair doesn't feel like hair anymore; it feels like straw. When I tried to get them to take responsibility for ignoring the brief and trashing my hair, they just didn't want to know. It’s a total lack of integrity.

​If you care about your hair’s health or actually getting the colour you pay for, stay well away. They’ve managed to make me feel completely washed out and pale, and they don't seem to care one bit that they've caused this. Absolute cowboys. Avoid at all costs.

I expected the team to be professional, welcoming, and attentive to my needs, but unfortunately, that was not the case. hair. I was quoted $420. After approximately 4½ hours, I left with wet hair, dye stained on my face, missed greys and eventually paid $300. The next day I discovered significant breakage, including hair breaking only centimetres from my scalp, greys left uncoloured and chemically BURNT hair. The foils alone took around 2½ hours, with multiple batches of bleach mixed. A trainee applied my root colour so poorly that dye ended up about 2cm onto my face and ears while grey hairs at my temples were actually missed. Worse, I am in a wheelchair. After 3 hours in the chair I explained that I desperately needed the toilet and specifically asked for someone to help wheel me there while I was covered in foils, colour, loose hair and a salon cape. I was told someone would help. Nobody did. When I complained the next day, I was told, “Well, you could have gone if you needed to.” I wasn't asking permission — I needed physical assistance! The salon itself was chaotic unclean – no one was sweeping up and dye spilt on the lino floors, towel left draped. I personally watched another booked customer wait so long that she eventually got up and walked out. Other customers were turned away. I also watched staff move clients from the front salon area to the back to continue their hair out of view. It honestly looked like naughty schoolchildren trying not to be seen. And the colour? I asked for brown hair with blonde highlights. Instead, my entire head was made substantially lighter (no technique) with virtually no discernible contrast from the foils and CHEMICALLY FRIED AFTER HOURS OF BLEACH IN THE HAIR. When I returned the next day with frizzed, breaking hair and complained, the stylist and manager insisted the colour was what I had asked for. It wasn't. I asked for my $300 back. They refused. No satisfactory resolution, no meaningful acknowledgement of the breakage (“well you had breakage before anyway”!), and my complaint about being left without bathroom assistance was diminished and dismissed. Bad colour, significant breakage, terrible customer service and, in my experience, no discernible management when something goes wrong. I will NEVER return to S+S Hair Carindale and absolutely cannot recommend them based on my experience. To the Stylist: The reason that your hands are shaking like you are on the epicentre of an earthquake, if because you have chosen to plaster your body with heavy lead inks for all over body tattoos, a face full of metal and ear studs and spacers (more metal poisoning) and chemically bleached hair so that you can colour it BRIGHT BLUE (Pssst super poisonous!) = you have early onset Parkinson’s honey.

I received a refreshing cut with long layers to lighten up the bulk. The front desk staff were kind and welcoming. The salon feels artistic and interesting but not pretentious. I'm not sure what all the bad reviews are about. They may reflect more on the reviewer than Valonz Haircutters. It is expensive, so I suggest looking on social media to ensure you like the stylist's previous work, but I prefer quality over quantity when visiting a salon.

Today I attended this salon for the first time. Rita, the owner, did my hair. She is a superb hairdresser, knows her trade extremely well, and listens to what you want, but also advises. Highly recommend.

does a real face and head shave with proper blades. The cut is always clean and sharp, and the whole experience feels polished and professional. You can tell they really know what they’re doing. Definitely recommend if you want a fine cut and a proper old-school barber experience.

I recently had nanoplasty hair straightening at the Newtown salon. I have thick, wavy hair (not super curly) down to my shoulder blade and I was charged $625. Unfortunately, the treatment didn’t work well. I called the salon to ask if I could come in so they could check it. I expected any reputable hair salon would ask a client to come back in to have their hair looked at if there were any concerns. Instead, the manager gave me a barrage of reasons and excuses over the phone why the treatment would have worked - without seeing my hair. I told him that other hairdressers who did nanoplasty had told me that my hair should be a lot straighter than what it is. He replied “all hair salons will bad mouth each other.” He then blamed me for not purchasing their products but I wasn’t even offered products afterwards. Regardless, I had purchased sulphate free nanoplasty suitable hair products anyway from somewhere else which I had been using. If products were the cause my whole head would have needed re-doing instead of just the back. He agreed to me coming in to have it looked at only after I asked a second time.

When I came in, the hairdresser who did my hair instantly agreed that the back needed re-doing and it was re-done the following day. I appreciate my hairdresser re-doing my hair, thank you. However, I was shocked to be asked for more money for fixing it after the appointment. No prior discussion about money was given. I politely told him that no, I have already paid over $600 for this and he replied “ok.”

Unfortunately I can’t recommend this salon.
