so bought the sport ones and have had no problems with them moving. They are comfortable and the sound with music or audiobooks is great. Bought on special… so added bonus. Have not used earbuds with the little arms before, so I am quite careful with them as they feel a bit delicate - but that’s probably normal for this type of earbud. Happy to recommend.

padding on the ear cups began to noticeably deteriorate (see first two pics). We weren’t trying to skimp of cheap headphones so we opted for this well reviewed Audio Technica model. Whilst they do sound good and wear comfortably for moderate periods of time, they have not lasted well and seem to be made, in part, from substandard materials. The rest of the headphones look like brand new which confirms how lightly they’ve been used (see last pic).
We’ve kept these phones in a well protected space their entire lifespan and have used them lightly and regularly (estimate average twice/week for less than half an hour each time). They have never been used outdoors or had any exposure to sun or heat, but the quality of the materials is poor and not long lasting.
Did contact the shop (Headphonic www.headphones.com.au) we bought them from about their deterioration, but have had no response.
We suspect they receive so many good reviews here because most of the reviews are for much newer sets, but we’re very unimpressed with Audio Technica’s quality and don’t recommend them unless you’re fine with paying $200 for headphones that might not last much more than 1-2 years with more typical usage. How can these relatively expensive headphones fit the Consumer Law requirements of fit for purpose and lasting anywhere near as much as would be expected for such an item?

that time I replaced the ear pads ( bought from amazon ) that fell apart and I'm surprised to see that they are still for sale. I'm currently using wireless earbuds as I have changed jobs to an 'agile' work environment but some days are really noisy so I'm considering bringing them in again on those days. I've been really happy with them and had no issues with using them for phone calls. I bought them because the sound quality and noise blocking on my wired earbuds from Sennheiser was exceptional. I found these also good although there is a big difference in listening to a proper music file to something transmitted over the internet. The music quality is better than my current earbuds wireless Soundcore Liberty 4 NC which I also really like. My issues would be you are limited in what earrings you can wear with the headphones because it can become uncomfortable so you are limited to small hoops or studs but then again that is a small fashion sacrifice to pay for peace and quiet.

is value for money, with a lot of technology packed into a reasonable price. The improvement for me on this set is that its ANC is on par with the JBL Tour Pro 3s, and call quality is impressive. I've used the ANC to help drown out really loud noises (hurting my ears). The ambient noise function with ANC is very handy for sleep and rest, when required. I've had issues with other earbuds where, the other party on the line would have issues hearing me and understanding what I'm saying, noting this could be because of the way I speak, however had had no such issues with the Liberty 4s, even in noisy environments, such as a noisy street with a lot of traffic, and even loud motorcycles nearby. The technology is able to drown out the sounds and pick out my voice without distorting the conversation (which is what the JBLs seemed to be doing making my conversations sound clipped when I'm speaking). Suffice to say this has been very important as I mostly use this device for work. This has been even more impressive than the Jabra 10s I used to have. So far, the best earbuds for calls for me. It is very comfortable, and battery life seems to be less than the JBLs, but that could be because I don't notice that I'm wearing them. Connectivity was initially very good, however have encountered some bugs (2 months in) where it sometimes tries to connect but the sound doesn't come through, or the case doesn't connect to the app (although this could be my phone, easily fixed by restarting the phone). The app is very useful, which also relates to connectivity, as it allows me to control the multiple devices connected to the earbuds. As I'm only able to connect 2 devices at the same time, the app is very handy to use to connect and disconnect to other devices without missing a beat. (Please note: the JBLS were better there, as you could do that on the screen on the case, which was handy - not having to go to the app to change devices. The Liberty 4 case allows changes to the ANC setting, with some additional features such as using it to access the camera on the phone). Carry it everywhere I go at this time, and has become essential to everyday life.

Although this headphone is only 24ohm my LG has to increase gain to 70 to show any details in the songs i normally listen to. What's the difference between earbuds and headphones?
Headphones come in a few different forms.
Earbuds fit partially into your ear canal, and are commonly referred to as earphones or in-ear headphones.
Headphones sit over your head. You can get either over-ear headphones or on-ear headphones.
- Over-ear (circumaural) headphones completely surround the ear, which helps make them more comfortable and more effective at noise cancelling. However, they're heavier and bulkier.
- On-ear (supra-aural) headphones rest on the outside of your ears, allowing for more airflow. They're smaller, however can be more uncomfortable to wear over long periods of time and tend to be less noice cancelling.
Bottom row, left to right: Wired, in-ear headphones with loops, wired, in-ear headphones (or earphones) and wireless in-ear headphones.
Should I get wired or wireless headphones?
Wired headphones
Wired headphones are physically connected to a device via a cable and headphone jack. They're great if you want good audio clarity and no-fuss connection.
Some features of wired headphones include:
- Stable and reliable way to listen to music.
- Generally have superior sound quality, as Bluetooth can only handle so much information across its signal.
- Don't have batteries that need to be charged.
- Often cheaper than wireless headphones.
- Don't allow for a lot of movement, so are more suited to travelling or office work than jogging on a treadmill.
- Require you to be in close reach of your devices.
Wireless headphones
Wireless headphones provide a cord-free connection between your headphones and your device, using Bluetooth or WiFi.
Some features of wireless headphones include:
- Great for those who want freedom of movement and to not be limited by cables, such as those who use their headphones while exercising.
- Headphones need to be charged; how often depends on the battery life of your model.
- Sound quality may not be as good as wired models.
- Devices need to be close to limit interference.
Other things to consider when choosing headphones
Open back vs closed back headphones
If you're looking for on-ear or over-ear headphones, you'll find that both are available with either open or closed backs. This refers to whether they're designed to allow better airflow.
Open-back headphones let more air flow through, helping improve audio quality and creating a more natural sound. However, this means they have less noise cancellation, so they might be more suited to when you want to listen to high-quality audio somewhere with less ambient noise, such as at home.
Closed-back headphones keep music close to the hear by reducing sound leakage and blocking background noise. They're sealed off, which makes them useful for noisy environments.
Noise-cancelling headphones
There are two types of noise cancelling headphones: passive and active. These may be used independently in most models, or in some, together.
Passive noise cancellation involves a physical barrier that blocks outside noise. Most headphones on the market use passive noise-cancelling technology.
Active noise cancellation involves specific frequencies that counteract external noise.
Noise-cancelling headphones are usually pricier, but they're useful for anyone who wants to be fully immersed in their music or audio.
Connection
If you're after wired headphones, then you should check that the connection is compatible with the devices you want to play music from. Some newer smartphone models don't have standard headphone jacks, so you may need to buy a converter to be able to use headphones.
Battery life
If you travel a lot and want to use your headphones wirelessly, having long battery life will be important. If your headphones have detachable cables, you'll still be able to use them even when the battery dies, but you'll lose active noise cancellation.
Weight and comfort
If you expect to be wearing your headphones for longer periods at a time, then comfort will be more important for you. If you expect to be carrying your headphones around with you often, then you should look for a lightweight model.
It's a good idea to try out the headphones in-store to see how they feel.
Cable length
The length of your cable should be long enough to comfortably reach where you're playing the music from, without having too much excess wire that can be fiddlesome to untangle. Some wired headphones will come a few cable options, such as straight and coiled cables of different lengths.
Features
Headphones have certain features that can make them easier to use and more versatile.
- Built-in microphone: This is useful if you want to answer calls while using your headphones.
- Charging case: Many in-ear headphones will have a charging case that lets you charge them on the go.
- In-line controls: These are buttons either on the cable or on the ear cups that let you control phone functions, such as answering calls, adjusting volume, playing and pausing music, and skipping songs.
- Foldable design: This lets your headphones become more compact for when you need to travel with it.
- Voice commands: These allow you to communicate with digital assistants like Alexa.
Water resistance
If you intend to use your headphones when working out or getting active, it's a good idea to look for a model with some level of water resistance.
There are varying degrees of water resistance, including:
- IPX0 - no water resistance.
- IPX1 - protection against some water drops that fall vertically.
- IPX2 - protection from dripping water falling at an angle of 15° or less.
- IPX3 - protection from water drops falling at an agnel of 60° or less.
- IPX4 - protection from water splashes.
- IPX5 - protection from heavy water streams.
- IPX6 - protection from high-pressure water streams.
- IPX7 - can be submerged in water up to one metre deep.
- IPX8 - can be submerged in water deeper than one metre.
