Is a stand mixer worth it?

Black KitchenAid Artisan Stand Mixer

Considering that stand mixers are the most high-end food mixers available, investing in one can be expensive. It might be worth it, however, if you’re a home baking aficionado who bakes at least twice a week. Your baking repertoire should incorporate more than just cakes, cookies and pastries, though. Unless you’re working with these lighter batters frequently and in large batches, a cheaper hand mixer should be sufficient.

Since stand mixers can handle heavy consistencies, they’re best paired with bakers who need help mixing tougher ingredients. This includes bread dough, pasta and pizza dough and buttercream frosting.

Why are stand mixers so expensive?

Stand mixers are more expensive than other electric mixers because they’re designed to handle heavy-duty kitchen tasks. A good stand mixer will tend to be heavy, large and durable. For example, models with a solid metal construction and stainless-steel bowl should last several years, but the trade-off is that you’ll pay more handsomely for one at the start.

You can also buy cheap stand mixers that range in price from $69-$300, however you’ll most likely find that benchtop mixers that have been awarded higher ratings tend to be pricier.

A stand mixer may also be more affordable if you choose a smaller mixing bowl capacity, a lower number of mixing speeds, and a model without planetary mixing action. But finding the best stand mixer for you will ultimately depend on your unique baking needs. Scroll down to experiment with the filters on the left hand side of the page to find out more.
